1O SENHOR me disse: “Tome uma placa de bom tamanho e nela escreva de forma legível: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz[1].2E chame o sacerdote Urias e Zacarias, filho de Jeberequias, como testemunhas de confiança”.3Então deitei-me com a profetisa[2], e ela engravidou e deu à luz um filho. E o SENHOR me disse: “Dê-lhe o nome de Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.4Pois, antes que o menino saiba dizer ‘papai’ ou ‘mamãe’, a riqueza de Damasco e os bens de Samaria serão levados pelo rei da Assíria”.5O SENHOR tornou a falar-me:6“Já que este povo rejeitou as águas de Siloé, que fluem mansamente, e alegrou-se com Rezim e com o filho de Remalias,7o Senhor está trazendo contra eles as poderosas e devastadoras águas do Eufrates[3], o rei da Assíria com todo o seu poderio. Elas transbordarão em todos os seus canais, encobrirão todas as suas margens8e inundarão Judá, cobrindo-o até o pescoço. Seus braços abertos se espalharão por toda a tua terra, ó Emanuel[4]!”9Continuem a fazer o mal, ó nações, e vocês serão destruídas! Escutem, terras distantes: Ainda que vocês se preparem para o combate, serão destruídas! Sim, mesmo que se preparem para o combate, vocês serão destruídas!10Mesmo que vocês criem estratégias, elas serão frustradas; mesmo que façam planos, não terão sucesso, pois Deus está conosco!
Temam a Deus
11O SENHOR falou comigo com veemência[5], advertindo-me a não seguir o caminho desse povo. Ele disse:12“Não chamem conspiração a tudo o que esse povo chama conspiração;[6] não temam aquilo que eles temem, nem se apavorem.13O SENHOR dos Exércitos é que vocês devem considerar santo, a ele é que vocês devem temer, dele é que vocês devem ter pavor.14Para os dois reinos de Israel ele será um santuário, mas também uma pedra de tropeço, uma rocha que faz cair. E para os habitantes de Jerusalém ele será uma armadilha e um laço.15Muitos deles tropeçarão, cairão e serão despedaçados, presos no laço e capturados”.16Guarde o mandamento com cuidado e sele a lei entre os meus discípulos.17Esperarei pelo SENHOR, que está escondendo o seu rosto da descendência de Jacó. Nele porei a minha esperança.18Aqui estou eu com os filhos que o SENHOR me deu. Em Israel somos sinais e símbolos da parte do SENHOR dos Exércitos, que habita no monte Sião.19Quando disserem a vocês: “Procurem um médium ou alguém que consulte os espíritos e murmure encantamentos, pois todos recorrem a seus deuses e aos mortos em favor dos vivos”,20respondam: “À lei e aos mandamentos!” Se eles não falarem conforme esta palavra, vocês jamais verão a luz!21Aflitos e famintos vaguearão pela terra; quando estiverem famintos, ficarão irados e, olhando para cima, amaldiçoarão o seu rei e o seu Deus.22Depois olharão para a terra e só verão aflição, trevas e temível escuridão, e serão atirados em densas trevas.
1Then the Lord said to me, “Take a large tablet and write on it in common characters,[1] ‘Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.’[2] (Is 30:8)2And I will get reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah, to attest for me.” (2 Rs 16:10; 2 Rs 16:15; Is 43:10)3And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz; (Os 1:4)4for before the boy knows how to cry ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.” (Is 7:8; Is 7:16)5The Lord spoke to me again:6“Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, (Ne 3:15; Is 7:1; Is 7:4; Jo 9:7; Jo 9:11)7therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River,[3] mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, (Is 7:20; Is 17:12; Jr 46:8)8and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.” (Is 7:14; Is 30:28; Is 36:1)9Be broken,[4] you peoples, and be shattered;[5] give ear, all you far countries; strap on your armor and be shattered; strap on your armor and be shattered. (Dn 2:34)10Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.[6] (Is 7:7; Is 8:8; Rm 8:31)
Fear God, Wait for the Lord
11For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: (Ez 2:8)12“Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. (Is 7:2; 1 Pe 3:14)13But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. (Nm 20:12)14And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (Is 28:16; Ez 11:16; Rm 9:33; 1 Pe 2:8)15And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.” (Is 28:13; Mt 21:44; Lc 20:18)16Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching[7] among my disciples. (Is 8:1; Dn 12:4)17I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. (Dt 31:17; Sl 27:14; Sl 33:20; Is 1:15; Is 54:8; Hc 2:3)18Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. (Is 7:3; Hb 2:13)19And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? (Lv 19:31; 1 Sm 28:11; 2 Rs 21:6; 2 Rs 23:24; 2 Cr 33:6; Sl 106:28; Is 19:3)20To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. (Is 60:1; Lc 16:29)21They will pass through the land,[8] greatly distressed and hungry. And when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will speak contemptuously against[9] their king and their God, and turn their faces upward.22And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into thick darkness. (Is 5:30; Na 1:8)
