1Aproximem-se, nações, e escutem; prestem atenção, ó povos! Que o ouçam a terra e tudo o que nela há, o mundo e tudo o que dele procede!2O SENHOR está indignado contra todas as nações; sua ira está contra todos os seus exércitos. Ele os destruirá totalmente, ele os entregará à matança.3Seus mortos serão lançados fora e os seus cadáveres exalarão mau cheiro; os montes se encharcarão do sangue deles.4As estrelas dos céus serão todas dissolvidas, e os céus se enrolarão como um pergaminho; todo o exército celeste cairá como folhas secas da videira e da figueira.5Quando minha espada embriagar-se nos céus, saibam que ela descerá para julgar Edom, povo que condenei à destruição.6A espada do SENHOR está banhada em sangue, está coberta de gordura, sangue de cordeiros e de bodes, gordura dos rins de carneiros. Pois o SENHOR exige sacrifício em Bozra e grande matança em Edom.7Com eles cairão os bois selvagens, e os novilhos com os touros. A terra deles ficará ensopada de sangue, e o pó se encharcará de gordura.8Pois o SENHOR terá seu dia de vingança, um ano de retribuição, para defender a causa de Sião.9Os riachos de Edom se transformarão em piche, em enxofre, o seu pó; sua terra se tornará betume ardente!10Não se apagará de dia nem de noite; sua fumaça subirá para sempre. De geração em geração ficará abandonada; ninguém voltará a passar por ela.11A coruja-do-deserto e a coruja estridente a possuirão; o corujão e o corvo farão nela os seus ninhos. Deus estenderá sobre Edom o caos como linha de medir e a desolação como fio de prumo.12Seus nobres nada terão ali que possa chamar-se reino, e todos os seus líderes desaparecerão.13Espinhos tomarão de assalto as suas cidadelas; urtigas e sarças cobrirão as suas fortalezas. Será um antro de chacais e moradia de corujas.14Criaturas do deserto se encontrarão com hienas, e bodes selvagens balirão uns para os outros; ali também descansarão as criaturas noturnas e acharão para si locais de descanso.15Nela a coruja fará ninho, chocará seus ovos e cuidará dos seus filhotes à sombra de suas asas; os falcões também se ajuntarão ali, cada um com o seu par.16Procurem no livro do SENHOR e leiam: Nenhum desses animais estará faltando; nenhum estará sem o seu par. Pois foi a sua boca que deu a ordem, e o seu Espírito os ajuntará.17Ele designa as porções de cada um; sua mão as distribui por medida. Eles se apossarão delas para sempre e ali habitarão de geração em geração.

(Ez 39:4; Jl 2:20)4All the host of heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree. (Sl 102:26; Jl 2:31; Jl 3:15; Mt 24:29; At 2:20; Hb 1:11; Ap 6:13)5For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; behold, it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction. (Is 34:2; Is 63:1; Jr 49:7; Ob 1:1; Ml 1:2)6The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood; it is gorged with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom. (Is 63:1)7Wild oxen shall fall with them, and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall drink its fill of blood, and their soil shall be gorged with fat. (Nm 23:22; Sl 22:12; Is 47:1)8For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. (Sl 137:7; Is 61:2; Is 63:4)9And the streams of Edom[2] shall be turned into pitch, and her soil into sulfur; her land shall become burning pitch. (Dt 29:23)10Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. (Is 66:24; Ml 1:4; Ap 14:11; Ap 18:18; Ap 19:3)11But the hawk and the porcupine[3] shall possess it, the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion[4] over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. (2 Rs 21:13; Is 14:23; Is 24:10; Lm 2:8; Am 7:7; Sf 2:14; Ap 18:2)12Its nobles—there is no one there to call it a kingdom, and all its princes shall be nothing.13Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches.[5] (Sl 44:19; Is 13:22; Is 32:13; Ml 1:3)14And wild animals shall meet with hyenas; the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; indeed, there the night bird[6] settles and finds for herself a resting place. (Is 13:21)15There the owl nests and lays and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow; indeed, there the hawks are gathered, each one with her mate. (Dt 14:13)16Seek and read from the book of the Lord: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.17He has cast the lot for them; his hand has portioned it out to them with the line; they shall possess it forever; from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.
