1Saiu, pois, Abrão do Egito e foi para o Neguebe, com sua mulher e com tudo o que possuía, e Ló foi com ele.2Abrão tinha enriquecido muito, tanto em gado como em prata e ouro.3Ele partiu do Neguebe em direção a Betel, indo de um lugar a outro, até que chegou ao lugar entre Betel e Ai onde já havia armado acampamento anteriormente4e onde, pela primeira vez, tinha construído um altar. Ali Abrão invocou o nome do SENHOR.5Ló, que acompanhava Abrão, também possuía rebanhos e tendas.6E não podiam morar os dois juntos na mesma região, porque possuíam tantos bens que a terra não podia sustentá-los.7Por isso surgiu uma desavença entre os pastores dos rebanhos de Abrão e os de Ló. Nessa época os cananeus e os ferezeus habitavam aquela terra.8Então Abrão disse a Ló: “Não haja desavença entre mim e você, ou entre os seus pastores e os meus; afinal somos irmãos!9Aí está a terra inteira diante de você. Vamos separar-nos. Se você for para a esquerda, irei para a direita; se for para a direita, irei para a esquerda”.10Olhou então Ló e viu todo o vale do Jordão, todo ele bem irrigado, até Zoar; era como o jardim do SENHOR, como a terra do Egito. Isto se deu antes de o SENHOR destruir Sodoma e Gomorra.11Ló escolheu todo o vale do Jordão e partiu em direção ao leste. Assim os dois se separaram:12Abrão ficou na terra de Canaã, mas Ló mudou seu acampamento para um lugar próximo a Sodoma, entre as cidades do vale.13Ora, os homens de Sodoma eram extremamente perversos e pecadores contra o SENHOR.
A Promessa de Deus a Abrão
14Disse o SENHOR a Abrão, depois que Ló separou-se dele: “De onde você está, olhe para o norte, para o sul, para o leste e para o oeste:15toda a terra que você está vendo darei a você e à sua descendência para sempre.16Tornarei a sua descendência tão numerosa como o pó da terra. Se for possível contar o pó da terra, também se poderá contar a sua descendência.17Percorra esta terra de alto a baixo, de um lado a outro, porque eu a darei a você”.18Então Abrão mudou seu acampamento e passou a viver próximo aos carvalhos de Manre, em Hebrom, onde construiu um altar dedicado ao SENHOR.
1So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. (Gn 12:9)2Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. (Gn 24:35; Sl 112:1; Pv 10:22)3And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,4to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord. (Gn 12:7)5And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,6so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, (Gn 36:6)7and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land. (Gn 12:6; Gn 26:20)8Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.[1] (At 7:26; 1 Co 6:1)9Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” (Gn 20:15; Gn 34:10)10And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) (Gn 2:8; Gn 14:2; Gn 14:8; Gn 19:17; Gn 19:22; Gn 19:24; Gn 19:25; Gn 19:28; Dt 34:3; 1 Rs 7:46; Is 51:3; Ez 28:13; Jl 2:3; Mt 3:5)11So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.12Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord. (Gn 18:20; Ez 16:49; 2 Pe 2:7)14The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, (Gn 28:14)15for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. (Gn 12:7; Gn 15:18; Gn 17:8; Gn 24:7; Gn 26:4; Gn 28:13; Gn 35:12; Dt 34:4; 2 Cr 20:7; At 7:5)16I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. (Gn 15:5; Gn 22:17; Gn 28:14; Gn 32:12; Nm 23:10; 1 Rs 3:8)17Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.”18So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks[2] of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.
