1Do mesmo modo, mulheres, sujeite-se cada uma a seu marido, a fim de que, se ele não obedece à palavra, seja ganho sem palavras, pelo procedimento de sua mulher,2observando a conduta honesta e respeitosa de vocês.3A beleza de vocês não deve estar nos enfeites exteriores, como cabelos trançados e joias de ouro ou roupas finas.4Ao contrário, esteja no ser interior[1], que não perece, beleza demonstrada num espírito dócil e tranquilo, o que é de grande valor para Deus.5Pois era assim que também costumavam adornar-se as santas mulheres do passado, cuja esperança estava em Deus. Elas se sujeitavam cada uma a seu marido,6como Sara, que obedecia a Abraão e o chamava senhor. Dela vocês serão filhas, se praticarem o bem e não derem lugar ao medo.7Do mesmo modo vocês, maridos, sejam sábios no convívio com suas mulheres e tratem-nas com honra, como parte mais frágil e co-herdeiras do dom da graça da vida, de forma que não sejam interrompidas as suas orações.
Sofrendo por Fazer o Bem
8Quanto ao mais, tenham todos o mesmo modo de pensar, sejam compassivos, amem-se fraternalmente, sejam misericordiosos e humildes.9Não retribuam mal com mal, nem insulto com insulto; ao contrário, bendigam; pois para isso vocês foram chamados, para receberem bênção por herança.10Pois “quem quiser amar a vida e ver dias felizes guarde a sua língua do mal e os seus lábios da falsidade.11Afaste-se do mal e faça o bem; busque a paz com perseverança.12Porque os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos e os seus ouvidos estão atentos à sua oração, mas o rosto do Senhor volta-se contra os que praticam o mal”.13Quem há de maltratá-los, se vocês forem zelosos na prática do bem?14Todavia, mesmo que venham a sofrer porque praticam a justiça, vocês serão felizes. “Não temam aquilo que eles temem[2], não fiquem amedrontados.”15Antes, santifiquem Cristo como Senhor em seu coração. Estejam sempre preparados para responder a qualquer pessoa que pedir a razão da esperança que há em vocês.16Contudo, façam isso com mansidão e respeito, conservando boa consciência, de forma que os que falam maldosamente contra o bom procedimento de vocês, porque estão em Cristo, fiquem envergonhados de suas calúnias.17É melhor sofrer por fazer o bem, se for da vontade de Deus, do que por fazer o mal.18Pois também Cristo sofreu pelos pecados uma vez por todas, o justo pelos injustos, para conduzir-nos a Deus. Ele foi morto no corpo[3], mas vivificado pelo Espírito[4],19no qual também foi e pregou aos espíritos em prisão20que há muito tempo desobedeceram, quando Deus esperava pacientemente nos dias de Noé, enquanto a arca era construída. Nela apenas algumas pessoas, a saber, oito, foram salvas por meio da água,21e isso é representado pelo batismo que agora também salva vocês—não a remoção da sujeira do corpo, mas o compromisso de[5] uma boa consciência diante de Deus—por meio da ressurreição de Jesus Cristo,22que subiu aos céus e está à direita de Deus; a ele estão sujeitos anjos, autoridades e poderes.

And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (Gn 18:12; Pv 3:25)7Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you[1] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. (Ef 5:25; Cl 3:19; 1 Ts 4:4)
Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
8Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. (Rm 12:16; Ef 4:2; Ef 4:32; Hb 13:1)9Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. (Lc 6:28; Rm 12:14; Rm 12:17; 1 Co 4:12; 1 Pe 2:21; 1 Pe 2:23)10For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; (Sl 34:12)11let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? (Pv 16:7)14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, (Is 8:12; Mt 5:10; Mt 10:28; Jo 14:1; Jo 14:27; 1 Pe 2:19; 1 Pe 3:6; 1 Pe 4:14; 1 Pe 4:16)15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (Is 29:23; Mt 6:9; Cl 4:6; 2 Tm 2:25; 1 Pe 1:17)16having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. (Hb 13:18; 1 Pe 2:12)17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. (1 Pe 2:20; 1 Pe 4:15)18For Christ also suffered[2] once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, (Rm 4:25; Rm 5:2; 2 Co 13:4; Cl 1:22; Hb 9:26; Hb 9:28; 1 Pe 2:21; 1 Pe 4:1; 1 Pe 4:6)19in which[3] he went and proclaimed[4] to the spirits in prison, (1 Pe 3:18)20because[5] they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. (Gn 6:3; Gn 6:5; Gn 6:13; Gn 7:1; Gn 7:7; Gn 7:23; Gn 8:18; Hb 11:7; 2 Pe 2:5)21Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (Mc 16:16; At 16:33; Rm 6:3; Rm 10:10; Tt 3:5; 1 Pe 1:3)22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
