Se, porém, alguém pecar, temos um intercessor junto ao Pai, Jesus Cristo, o Justo.2Ele é a propiciação pelos nossos pecados, e não somente pelos nossos, mas também pelos[1] pecados de todo o mundo.3Sabemos que o conhecemos, se obedecemos aos seus mandamentos.4Aquele que diz: “Eu o conheço”, mas não obedece aos seus mandamentos, é mentiroso, e a verdade não está nele.5Mas, se alguém obedece à sua palavra, nele verdadeiramente o amor de Deus[2] está aperfeiçoado. Desta forma sabemos que estamos nele:6aquele que afirma que permanece nele deve andar como ele andou.7Amados, não escrevo a vocês um mandamento novo, mas um mandamento antigo, que vocês têm desde o princípio: a mensagem que ouviram.8No entanto, o que escrevo é um mandamento novo, o qual é verdadeiro nele e em vocês, pois as trevas estão se dissipando e já brilha a verdadeira luz.9Quem afirma estar na luz mas odeia seu irmão, continua nas trevas.10Quem ama seu irmão permanece na luz, e nele[3] não há causa de tropeço.11Mas quem odeia seu irmão está nas trevas e anda nas trevas; não sabe para onde vai, porque as trevas o cegaram.12Filhinhos, eu escrevo a vocês porque os seus pecados foram perdoados, graças ao nome de Jesus.13Pais, eu escrevo a vocês porque conhecem aquele que é desde o princípio. Jovens, eu escrevo a vocês porque venceram o Maligno.14Filhinhos[4], eu escrevi a vocês porque conhecem o Pai. Pais, eu escrevi a vocês porque conhecem aquele que é desde o princípio. Jovens, eu escrevi a vocês, porque são fortes, e em vocês a Palavra de Deus permanece, e vocês venceram o Maligno.
Não se Deve Amar o Mundo
15Não amem o mundo nem o que nele há. Se alguém ama o mundo, o amor do Pai[5] não está nele.16Pois tudo o que há no mundo—a cobiça da carne[6], a cobiça dos olhos e a ostentação dos bens—não provém do Pai, mas do mundo.17O mundo e a sua cobiça passam, mas aquele que faz a vontade de Deus permanece para sempre.
Advertência contra os Anticristos
18Filhinhos, esta é a última hora e, assim como vocês ouviram que o anticristo está vindo, já agora muitos anticristos têm surgido. Por isso sabemos que esta é a última hora.19Eles saíram do nosso meio, mas na realidade não eram dos nossos, pois, se fossem dos nossos, teriam permanecido conosco; o fato de terem saído mostra que nenhum deles era dos nossos.20Mas vocês têm uma unção que procede do Santo e todos vocês têm conhecimento[7].21Não escrevo a vocês porque não conhecem a verdade, mas porque a conhecem e porque nenhuma mentira procede da verdade.22Quem é o mentiroso, senão aquele que nega que Jesus é o Cristo? Este é o anticristo: aquele que nega o Pai e o Filho.23Todo o que nega o Filho também não tem o Pai; quem confessa publicamente o Filho tem também o Pai.24Quanto a vocês, cuidem para que aquilo que ouviram desde o princípio permaneça em vocês. Se o que ouviram desde o princípio permanecer em vocês, vocês também permanecerão no Filho e no Pai.25E esta é a promessa que ele nos fez: a vida eterna.26Escrevo estas coisas a respeito daqueles que os querem enganar.27Quanto a vocês, a unção que receberam dele permanece em vocês, e não precisam que alguém os ensine; mas, como a unção dele recebida, que é verdadeira e não falsa, os ensina acerca de todas as coisas, permaneçam nele como ele os ensinou.
Os Filhos de Deus
28Filhinhos, agora permaneçam nele para que, quando ele se manifestar, tenhamos confiança e não sejamos envergonhados diante dele na sua vinda.29Se vocês sabem que ele é justo, saibam também que todo aquele que pratica a justiça é nascido dele.

By this we may know that we are in him: (Jo 14:23; 1 Jo 3:24; 1 Jo 4:12; 1 Jo 4:13; 1 Jo 5:2; 1 Jo 5:3)6whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (Mt 11:29; Jo 15:4; Jo 15:7)
The New Commandment
7Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. (Lv 19:18; 1 Jo 2:24; 1 Jo 3:11; 2 Jo 1:5)8At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because[1] the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. (Jo 1:9; Jo 8:12; Jo 13:34; Rm 13:12; Ef 5:8; 1 Ts 5:4)9Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. (Tt 3:3; 1 Jo 3:14; 1 Jo 4:20)10Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him[2] there is no cause for stumbling. (Pv 4:19; Jo 11:10; 2 Pe 1:10)11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (1 Jo 1:6)12I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. (Lc 24:47; At 10:43; At 13:38)13I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. (1 Jo 2:13)
Do Not Love the World
15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (Rm 12:2; 2 Tm 4:10; Tg 4:4)16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[3]—is not from the Father but is from the world. (Ec 4:8; Ec 5:11; Rm 13:14; Ef 2:3; 1 Pe 4:2; 2 Pe 2:18)17And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (1 Co 7:31)
Warning Concerning Antichrists
18Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. (Mt 24:5; Mt 24:24; 1 Tm 4:1; 2 Tm 3:1; Tg 5:3; 2 Pe 3:3; 1 Jo 2:22; 1 Jo 4:1; 1 Jo 4:3; 2 Jo 1:7; Jd 1:18)19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. (Dt 13:13; Jo 17:12; At 20:30; 1 Co 11:19)20But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.[4] (Mc 1:24; Jo 14:26; 2 Co 1:21; 1 Jo 2:27)21I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.22Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. (1 Jo 2:18; 1 Jo 4:3; 2 Jo 1:7)23No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. (1 Jo 4:15; 1 Jo 5:1; 2 Jo 1:9)24Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. (Jo 14:23; 1 Jo 1:3; 1 Jo 3:11; 2 Jo 1:6)25And this is the promise that he made to us[5]—eternal life. (Jo 17:2)26I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. (1 Jo 3:7; 2 Jo 1:7)27But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him. (Jr 31:34; Jo 14:17; Hb 8:11; 1 Jo 2:20)
