1El SEÑOR le ordenó a Moisés:2«Diles a los israelitas que traigan doce varas, una por cada familia patriarcal, es decir, una por cada uno de los jefes de las familias patriarcales. Escribe el nombre de cada uno de ellos sobre su propia vara.3Sobre la vara de Leví escribe el nombre de Aarón, pues cada jefe de familia patriarcal debe tener su vara.4Colócalas frente al arca del pacto, en la Tienda donde me reúno con vosotros.5La vara que retoñe será la de mi elegido. De ese modo me quitaré de encima las constantes quejas que los israelitas levantan contra vosotros».6Moisés se lo comunicó a los israelitas, y los jefes le entregaron doce varas, una por cada jefe de su familia patriarcal. Entre ellas estaba la vara de Aarón.7Moisés colocó las varas delante del SEÑOR, en la Tienda del pacto.8Al día siguiente, Moisés entró en la Tienda del pacto y, al fijarse en la vara que representaba a la familia de Leví, vio que la vara de Aarón no solo había retoñado, sino que también tenía botones, flores y almendras.9Sacó entonces de la presencia del SEÑOR todas las varas, y las puso delante de los israelitas, para que por sí mismos vieran lo que había ocurrido, y cada jefe tomó su propia vara.10El SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés: «Vuelve a colocar la vara de Aarón frente al arca del pacto, para que sirva de advertencia a los rebeldes. Así terminarás con las quejas en contra mía, y evitarás que mueran los israelitas».11Moisés hizo todo tal como el SEÑOR se lo ordenó.12Entonces los israelitas le dijeron a Moisés: «¡Estamos perdidos, totalmente perdidos! ¡Vamos a morir!13Todo el que se acerca al santuario del SEÑOR muere, ¡así que todos moriremos!»
1[1] The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,2“Speak to the people of Israel, and get from them staffs, one for each fathers’ house, from all their chiefs according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. Write each man’s name on his staff, (Ez 37:16)3and write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi. For there shall be one staff for the head of each fathers’ house.4Then you shall deposit them in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. (Ex 25:22)5And the staff of the man whom I choose shall sprout. Thus I will make to cease from me the grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against you.” (Nm 16:5; Nm 16:11)6Moses spoke to the people of Israel. And all their chiefs gave him staffs, one for each chief, according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. And the staff of Aaron was among their staffs.7And Moses deposited the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the testimony. (Ex 38:21; Nm 18:2; 2 Cr 24:6; Hch 7:44)8On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.9Then Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the people of Israel. And they looked, and each man took his staff.10And the Lord said to Moses, “Put back the staff of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept as a sign for the rebels, that you may make an end of their grumblings against me, lest they die.” (Nm 16:38; Nm 17:5; Heb 9:4)11Thus did Moses; as the Lord commanded him, so he did.12And the people of Israel said to Moses, “Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone.13Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the tabernacle of the Lord, shall die.
