Censo de las tribus de Israel

1 El SEÑOR le habló a Moisés en el desierto de Sinaí, en la Tienda de reunión, el día primero del mes segundo, en el segundo año después de que los israelitas salieron de Egipto. Le dijo: 

2 «Haced un censo de toda la comunidad de Israel por clanes y por familias patriarcales, anotando uno por uno los nombres de todos los varones. 

3 Tú y Aarón reclutaréis por escuadrones a todos los varones israelitas mayores de veinte años que sean aptos para el servicio militar. 

4 Para esto contaréis con la colaboración de un hombre de cada tribu, que sea jefe de una familia patriarcal. 

Los encargados del censo

5 »Estos son los nombres de quienes habrán de ayudaros: por la tribu de Rubén, Elisur hijo de Sedeúr; 

6 por la de Simeón, Selumiel hijo de Zurisaday; 

7 por la de Judá, Naasón hijo de Aminadab; 

8 por la de Isacar, Natanael hijo de Zuar; 

9 por la de Zabulón, Eliab hijo de Helón; 

10 por las tribus de los hijos de José: Elisama hijo de Amiud por la tribu de Efraín, y Gamaliel hijo de Pedasur por la de Manasés; 

11 por la tribu de Benjamín, Abidán hijo de Gedeoni; 

12 por la de Dan, Ajiezer hijo de Amisaday; 

13 por la de Aser, Paguiel hijo de Ocrán; 

14 por la de Gad, Eliasaf hijo de Deuel; 

15 por la de Neftalí, Ajirá hijo de Enán». 

16 A estos la comunidad los nombró jefes de las tribus patriarcales y comandantes de los escuadrones de Israel. 

El censo y sus resultados

17 Moisés y Aarón tomaron consigo a los hombres que habían sido designados por nombre, 

18 y el día primero del mes segundo reunieron a toda la comunidad. Uno por uno fueron empadronados por clanes y por familias patriarcales. De este modo quedaron anotados los nombres de todos los varones mayores de veinte años, 

19 tal como el SEÑOR se lo había mandado a Moisés. Este censo lo hizo Moisés en el desierto de Sinaí. 

20 Los descendientes de Rubén, primogénito de Israel, quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales, según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

21 El número de la tribu de Rubén llegó a cuarenta y seis mil quinientos hombres. 

22 Los descendientes de Simeón quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

23 El número de la tribu de Simeón llegó a cincuenta y nueve mil trescientos hombres. 

24 Los descendientes de Gad quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

25 El número de la tribu de Gad llegó a cuarenta y cinco mil seiscientos cincuenta hombres. 

26 Los descendientes de Judá quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

27 El número de la tribu de Judá llegó a setenta y cuatro mil seiscientos hombres. 

28 Los descendientes de Isacar quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

29 El número de la tribu de Isacar llegó a cincuenta y cuatro mil cuatrocientos hombres. 

30 Los descendientes de Zabulón quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

31 El número de la tribu de Zabulón llegó a cincuenta y siete mil cuatrocientos hombres. 

32 Los descendientes de José: Los descendientes de Efraín quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

33 El número de la tribu de Efraín llegó a cuarenta mil quinientos hombres. 

34 Los descendientes de Manasés quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

35 El número de la tribu de Manasés llegó a treinta y dos mil doscientos hombres. 

36 Los descendientes de Benjamín quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

37 El número de la tribu de Benjamín llegó a treinta y cinco mil cuatrocientos hombres. 

38 Los descendientes de Dan quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

39 El número de la tribu de Dan llegó a sesenta y dos mil setecientos hombres. 

40 Los descendientes de Aser quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

41 El número de la tribu de Aser llegó a cuarenta y un mil quinientos hombres. 

42 Los descendientes de Neftalí quedaron registrados por clanes y por familias patriarcales según su genealogía. Uno por uno fueron empadronados todos los varones mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar. 

43 El número de la tribu de Neftalí llegó a cincuenta y tres mil cuatrocientos hombres. 

44 Este es el resultado del censo que hicieron Moisés y Aarón, con la ayuda de los doce jefes de Israel, cada uno en representación de su familia patriarcal. 

45 Todos los israelitas mayores de veinte años que eran aptos para el servicio militar fueron anotados, según su familia patriarcal. 

46 El total llegó a seiscientos tres mil quinientos cincuenta israelitas censados. 

Los levitas

47 Los levitas no fueron censados con los demás, 

48 porque el SEÑOR le había dicho a Moisés: 

49 «A la tribu de Leví no la incluirás en el censo de los hijos de Israel. 

50 Más bien, tú mismo los pondrás a cargo del santuario del pacto, de todos sus utensilios y de todo lo relacionado con él. Los levitas transportarán el santuario y todos sus utensilios. Además, serán los ministros del santuario y acamparán a su alrededor. 

51 Cuando haya que trasladar el santuario, los levitas se encargarán de desarmarlo; cuando haya que instalarlo, serán ellos quienes lo armen. Pero cualquiera que se acerque al santuario y no sea sacerdote morirá. 

52 Todos los israelitas acamparán bajo su propio estandarte y en su propio campamento, según sus escuadrones. 

53 En cambio, los levitas acamparán alrededor del santuario del pacto, para evitar que Dios descargue su ira sobre la comunidad de Israel. Serán, pues, los levitas los encargados de cuidar el santuario del pacto». 

54 Los israelitas hicieron todo conforme a lo que el SEÑOR le había mandado a Moisés.

A Census of Israel’s Warriors

1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, (Ex 19:1; Ex 25:22; Nm 10:11) 

2 “Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, by fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head. (Ex 30:12; Ex 38:26; Nm 1:18; Nm 1:20; Nm 1:22; Nm 3:47; Nm 26:2; 2 S 24:2; 1 Cr 21:2; 1 Cr 23:3; 1 Cr 23:24) 

3 From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, company by company. (Ex 12:51; Ex 30:14; Nm 14:29) 

4 And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers. 

5 And these are the names of the men who shall assist you. From Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur; (Nm 7:30) 

6 from Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; (Nm 7:36) 

7 from Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab; (Ex 6:23) 

8 from Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar; (Nm 7:18) 

9 from Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon; (Nm 7:24) 

10 from the sons of Joseph, from Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; (Nm 7:48; Nm 7:54; 1 Cr 7:26) 

11 from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni; (Nm 7:60) 

12 from Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; (Nm 7:66) 

13 from Asher, Pagiel the son of Ochran; (Nm 7:72) 

14 from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel; (Nm 7:42) 

15 from Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.” (Nm 7:78) 

16 These were the ones chosen from the congregation, the chiefs of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel. (Ex 18:21; Ex 18:25; Nm 7:2; Nm 26:9; 1 Cr 27:16) 

17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named, (1 Cr 12:31; 1 Cr 16:41; 2 Cr 28:15; 2 Cr 31:19; Esd 8:20) 

18 and on the first day of the second month, they assembled the whole congregation together, who registered themselves by clans, by fathers’ houses, according to the number of names from twenty years old and upward, head by head, 

19 as the Lord commanded Moses. So he listed them in the wilderness of Sinai. 

20 The people of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: (Nm 2:3) 

21 those listed of the tribe of Reuben were 46,500. (Nm 26:7) 

22 Of the people of Simeon, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, those of them who were listed, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: 

23 those listed of the tribe of Simeon were 59,300. (Nm 26:14) 

24 Of the people of Gad, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: 

25 those listed of the tribe of Gad were 45,650. (Nm 26:18) 

26 Of the people of Judah, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

27 those listed of the tribe of Judah were 74,600. (Nm 26:22; 2 S 24:9) 

28 Of the people of Issachar, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

29 those listed of the tribe of Issachar were 54,400. (Nm 26:25) 

30 Of the people of Zebulun, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

31 those listed of the tribe of Zebulun were 57,400. (Nm 26:27) 

32 Of the people of Joseph, namely, of the people of Ephraim, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

33 those listed of the tribe of Ephraim were 40,500. (Nm 26:37) 

34 Of the people of Manasseh, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

35 those listed of the tribe of Manasseh were 32,200. (Nm 26:34) 

36 Of the people of Benjamin, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

37 those listed of the tribe of Benjamin were 35,400. (Nm 26:41) 

38 Of the people of Dan, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

39 those listed of the tribe of Dan were 62,700. (Nm 26:43) 

40 Of the people of Asher, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

41 those listed of the tribe of Asher were 41,500. (Nm 26:47) 

42 Of the people of Naphtali, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 

43 those listed of the tribe of Naphtali were 53,400. (Nm 26:50) 

44 These are those who were listed, whom Moses and Aaron listed with the help of the chiefs of Israel, twelve men, each representing his fathers’ house. (Nm 26:64) 

45 So all those listed of the people of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war in Israel— 

46 all those listed were 603,550. (Ex 12:37; Ex 38:26; Nm 11:21; Nm 26:51) 

Levites Exempted

47 But the Levites were not listed along with them by their ancestral tribe. (Nm 2:33; Nm 26:57; Nm 26:62) 

48 For the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 

49 “Only the tribe of Levi you shall not list, and you shall not take a census of them among the people of Israel. 

50 But appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall take care of it and shall camp around the tabernacle. (Ex 38:21; Nm 3:7; Nm 3:23; Nm 4:15) 

51 When the tabernacle is to set out, the Levites shall take it down, and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up. And if any outsider comes near, he shall be put to death. (Nm 3:10; Nm 3:38; Nm 10:17; Nm 10:21; Nm 18:22; 1 S 6:19; 2 S 6:6; 1 Cr 13:10) 

52 The people of Israel shall pitch their tents by their companies, each man in his own camp and each man by his own standard. (Nm 2:2; Nm 2:34) 

53 But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the people of Israel. And the Levites shall keep guard over the tabernacle of the testimony.” (Nm 3:7; Nm 3:38; Nm 8:19; Nm 8:26; Nm 9:19; Nm 9:23; Nm 16:46; Nm 18:3; Nm 18:5; Nm 31:30; Nm 31:47; 1 Cr 23:32; 2 Cr 13:11) 

54 Thus did the people of Israel; they did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses.
