Descendientes de Esaú

1 Éstos son los descendientes de Esaú, o sea Edom. 2 Esaú se casó con mujeres cananeas: con Ada, hija de Elón el hitita; con Aholibama, hija de Aná y nieta de Zibeón el heveo; 3 y con Basemat, hija de Ismael y hermana de Nebayot. 4 Esaú tuvo estos hijos: con Ada tuvo a Elifaz; con Basemat, a Reuel; 5 con Aholibama, a Jeús, Jalán y Coré. Éstos fueron los hijos que tuvo Esaú mientras vivía en la tierra de Canaán. 6 Después Esaú tomó a sus esposas, hijos e hijas, y a todas las personas que lo acompañaban, junto con su ganado y todos sus animales, y todos los bienes que había adquirido en la tierra de Canaán, y se trasladó a otra región para alejarse de su hermano Jacob. 7 Los dos habían acumulado tantos bienes que no podían estar juntos; la tierra donde vivían no bastaba para alimentar al ganado de ambos. 8 Fue así como Esaú, o sea Edom, se asentó en la región montañosa de Seír. 9 Éstos son los descendientes de Esaú, padre de los edomitas, que habitaron en la región montañosa de Seír. 10 Los nombres de sus hijos son éstos: Elifaz hijo de Ada, esposa de Esaú; y Reuel hijo de Basemat, esposa de Esaú. 11 Los hijos de Elifaz fueron Temán, Omar, Zefo, Gatán y Quenaz. 12 Elifaz tuvo un hijo con una concubina suya, llamada Timná, al que llamó Amalec. Todos éstos fueron nietos de Ada, esposa de Esaú. 13 Los hijos de Reuel fueron Najat, Zera, Sama y Mizá. Éstos fueron los nietos de Basemat, esposa de Esaú. 14 Los hijos de la otra esposa de Esaú, Aholibama, que era hija de Aná y nieta de Zibeón fueron Jeús, Jalán y Coré. 15 Éstos fueron los jefes de los descendientes de Esaú: De los hijos de Elifaz, primogénito de Esaú, los jefes fueron Temán, Omar, Zefo, Quenaz, 16 Coré, Gatán y Amalec. Éstos fueron los jefes de los descendientes de Elifaz en la tierra de Edom, y todos ellos fueron nietos de Ada. 17 De los hijos de Reuel hijo de Esaú, los jefes fueron Najat, Zera, Sama y Mizá. Éstos fueron los jefes de los descendientes de Reuel en la tierra de Edom, y todos ellos fueron nietos de Basemat, esposa de Esaú. 18 De los hijos de Aholibama, hija de Aná y esposa de Esaú, los jefes fueron Jeús, Jalán y Coré. 19 Éstos fueron descendientes de Esaú, también llamado Edom, y a su vez jefes de sus respectivas tribus. 20 Éstos fueron los descendientes de Seír el horeo, que habitaban en aquella región: Lotán, Sobal, Zibeón, Aná, 21 Disón, Ezer y Disán. Estos descendientes de Seír fueron los jefes de los horeos en la tierra de Edom. 22 Los hijos de Lotán fueron Horí y Homán. Lotán tenía una hermana llamada Timná. 23 Los hijos de Sobal fueron: Alván, Manajat, Ebal, Sefó y Onam. 24 Los hijos de Zibeón fueron Ayá y Aná. Este último es el mismo que encontró las aguas termales^[1] en el desierto mientras cuidaba los asnos de su padre Zibeón. 25 Los hijos de Aná fueron: Disón y Aholibama, hija de Aná. 26 Los hijos de Disón fueron Hemdán, Esbán, Itrán y Querán. 27 Los hijos de Ezer fueron Bilán, Zaván y Acán. 28 Los hijos de Disán fueron Uz y Arán. 29 Los jefes de los horeos fueron Lotán, Sobal, Zibeón, Aná, 30 Disón, Ezer y Disán. Cada uno de ellos fue jefe de su tribu en la región de Seír.

Los reyes de Edom

31 Antes de que los israelitas tuvieran rey, éstos fueron los reyes que reinaron en el país de Edom: 32 Bela hijo de Beor, que reinó en Edom. El nombre de su ciudad era Dinaba. 33 Cuando murió Bela, reinó en su lugar Jobab hijo de Zera, que provenía de Bosra. 34 Cuando murió Jobab, reinó en su lugar Jusán, que venía de la región de Temán. 35 Cuando murió Jusán, reinó en su lugar Hadad hijo de Bedad. Éste derrotó a Madián en el campo de Moab. El nombre de su ciudad era Avit. 36 Cuando murió Hadad, reinó en su lugar Samla, que era del pueblo de Masreca. 37 Cuando murió Samla, reinó en su lugar Saúl de Rejobot del Río. 38 Cuando murió Saúl, reinó en su lugar Baal Janán hijo de Acbor. 39 Cuando murió Baal Janán hijo de Acbor, reinó en su lugar Hadad.^[2] El nombre de su ciudad era Pau. Su esposa se llamaba Mehitabel, y era hija de Matred y nieta de Mezab. 40 Éstos son los nombres de los jefes que descendieron de Esaú, cada uno según su clan y región: Timná, Alvá, Jetet, 41 Aholibama, Elá, Pinón, 42 Quenaz, Temán, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel e Iram. Éstos fueron los jefes de Edom, según los lugares que habitaron. Éste fue Esaú, padre de los edomitas.

Esau’s descendants

1 This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom). 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite – 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. 6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. 8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. 9 This is the account of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir. 10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath. 11 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz. 12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath. 18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah. 19 These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their chiefs. 20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs. 22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam.^[2] Timna was Lotan’s sister. (1 Cr 1:39) 23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. 24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. (This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs^[3] in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.) 25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. 26 The sons of Dishon^[4]: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. 27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. 28 The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29 These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.

The rulers of Edom

31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned: 32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah. 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king. 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king. 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king. 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad^[5] succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. (1 Cr 1:50) 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.
