1Toată adunarea lor s‑a ridicat și L‑au dus pe Isus la Pilat. (Mat 27:11; Mar 15:1; Ioan 18:28)2Ei au început să‑L acuze, zicând: „Pe Acesta L‑am găsit ducându‑ne în rătăcire neamul, interzicând tributul care se dă Cezarului[1] și zicând despre Sine că este Cristos, un Împărat!“ (Lu 2:1)3Pilat L‑a întrebat, zicând: – Ești Tu Împăratul iudeilor? Isus, răspunzându‑i, a zis: – Tu o spui!4Pilat le‑a zis conducătorilor preoților și mulțimilor: – Eu nu găsesc în Omul Acesta niciun motiv ca să‑L acuz!5Dar ei au insistat și au zis: – Incită poporul, dând învățătură prin toată Iudeea[2], din Galileea, de unde a început, și până aici! (Lu 7:17)
Isus înaintea lui Irod
6Când a auzit acest lucru, Pilat a întrebat dacă Omul este galileean7și, aflând că este sub autoritatea lui Irod[3], L‑a trimis la Irod, care se afla și el în Ierusalim în acele zile. (Lu 3:1)8Irod s‑a bucurat foarte mult când L‑a văzut pe Isus, fiindcă de mult timp dorea să‑L vadă, pentru că auzise despre El și spera să‑L vadă înfăptuind vreun semn.9I‑a pus multe întrebări, dar Isus nu i‑a răspuns nimic[4]. (Is 53:7)10Conducătorii preoților și cărturarii stăteau acolo, acuzându‑L cu vehemență.11Atunci Irod împreună cu soldații lui s‑au purtat cu El cu dispreț și, după ce și‑au bătut joc de El, L‑au îmbrăcat într‑o haină strălucitoare[5] și L‑au trimis înapoi la Pilat. (Mar 15:17; Ioan 19:2)12În aceeași zi, Irod și Pilat s‑au împrietenit unul cu altul, căci înainte fuseseră în dușmănie unul față de celălalt.
Condamnarea lui Isus
13Pilat a chemat laolaltă conducătorii preoților, conducătorii și poporul (Mat 27:15; Mar 15:6; Ioan 18:39)14și le‑a zis: – Mi L‑ați adus pe Omul Acesta, ca pe Unul Care duce în rătăcire poporul. Și iată că eu, după ce L‑am cercetat înaintea voastră, n‑am găsit în Omul Acesta niciunul din motivele pentru care Îl acuzați voi.15Și nici Irod nu L‑a găsit vinovat, pentru că ni L‑a trimis înapoi. Iată deci că n‑a săvârșit nimic vrednic de moarte.16Așadar, după ce‑L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!17El trebuia să le elibereze pe cineva cu ocazia sărbătorii.18Însă ei au strigat cu toții, zicând: – La moarte cu Acesta! Eliberează‑ni‑l pe Barabba[6]! (Mat 27:16)19Barabba fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru o răscoală care avusese loc în cetate și pentru crimă.20Pilat le‑a vorbit din nou, dorind să‑L elibereze pe Isus,21însă ei strigau: – Răstignește‑L![7] Răstignește‑L!22El le‑a zis a treia oară: – Dar ce rău a făcut Acesta? Eu n‑am găsit în El niciun motiv care să‑L facă vrednic de moarte! Așadar, după ce‑L voi pedepsi, Îl voi elibera!23Dar ei insistau, cerându‑i cu strigăte puternice să fie răstignit. Și strigătele lor și ale conducătorilor preoților au biruit.24Pilat a decis să li se îndeplinească cererea.25L‑a eliberat, așa cum cereau ei, pe cel care fusese aruncat în închisoare pentru răscoală și crimă, iar pe Isus L‑a dat pe mâna lor, ca să‑I facă după cum doresc.
Răstignirea
26În timp ce‑L duceau de‑acolo, l‑au apucat pe Simon, un om din Cirena, care venea de la câmp, și i‑au pus crucea în spinare, ca s‑o ducă în urma lui Isus. (Mat 27:32; Mar 15:21; Ioan 19:17)27Pe Isus Îl urma o mare mulțime de oameni, printre care și niște femei care se băteau pe piept și‑L jeleau.28Dar Isus S‑a întors spre ele și le‑a zis: „Fiice ale Ierusalimului, nu Mă plângeți pe Mine, ci plângeți‑vă pe voi și pe copiii voștri!29Căci iată, vin zile în care se va spune: «Fericite sunt cele sterpe și pântecele care n‑au născut și fericiți sunt sânii care n‑au alăptat!»30Atunci vor începe să zică munților: «Cădeți peste noi!» și dealurilor: «Acoperiți‑ne!»[8] (Os 10:8)31Căci dacă i se fac aceste lucruri copacului verde, ce se va întâmpla cu cel uscat?!“[9] (Ez 21:3)32Au fost aduși și doi răufăcători, ca să fie omorâți împreună cu El.33Când au ajuns în locul numit „Craniul“[10], i‑au răstignit acolo pe Isus și pe răufăcători, unul la dreapta și unul la stânga Lui.[11] (Lu 22:37)34Isus zicea: „Tată, iartă‑i, căci nu știu ce fac!“ Apoi au aruncat sorții, ca să‑și împartă hainele Lui între ei.[12] (Ps 22:18)35Poporul stătea acolo și se uita. Conducătorii își băteau joc de El, zicând: „Pe alții i‑a salvat! Să Se salveze și pe Sine dacă este Cristosul lui Dumnezeu, Alesul!“36Soldații, de asemenea, își băteau joc de El. Ei se apropiau, Îi ofereau oțet de vin[13]37și ziceau: „Dacă Tu ești Împăratul iudeilor, salvează‑Te pe Tine Însuți!“38Deasupra Lui era și o inscripție cu litere grecești, latinești și ebraice: „Acesta este Împăratul iudeilor.“39Unul dintre răufăcătorii care fuseseră răstigniți, blasfemia împotriva Lui, zicând: „Nu ești Tu Cristosul? Salvează‑Te pe Tine și salvează‑ne și pe noi!“40Celălalt însă l‑a mustrat, zicând: „Nu te temi de Dumnezeu, tu, care ești sub aceeași sentință?41Pentru noi, într-adevăr, este drept, căci noi primim ceea ce merităm pentru ce‑am săvârșit, dar Acesta n‑a săvârșit nimic rău!“42Apoi a zis: – Isuse, amintește‑Ți de mine când vii în Împărăția Ta!43Isus i‑a răspuns: – Adevărat îți spun, astăzi vei fi cu Mine în Rai!
Moartea lui Isus
44Era deja cam pe la ceasul al șaselea[14]. Și s‑a făcut întuneric peste toată țara până la ceasul al nouălea[15]. (Mat 27:45; Mar 15:33; Lu 12:1; Lu 15:1; Ioan 19:28)45Soarele s‑a întunecat, iar draperia[16] Templului s‑a rupt prin mijloc. (Ev 9:1; Ev 10:14)46Isus a strigat cu glas tare și a zis: „Tată, în mâinile Tale Îmi încredințez duhul!“[17] Și zicând aceasta, Și‑a dat suflarea. (Ps 31:5)47Când centurionul[18] a văzut ce se întâmplase, L‑a slăvit pe Dumnezeu și a zis: „Într-adevăr Omul Acesta era drept[19]!“ (Lu 7:2)48Toate mulțimile care se adunaseră înaintea acestei priveliști, văzând ce se întâmplă, s‑au întors, bătându‑se pe piept.49Toți cunoscuții Lui, inclusiv femeile care‑L însoțiseră din Galileea, stăteau la distanță și se uitau la aceste lucruri.
Înmormântarea lui Isus
50Și iată că era un om pe nume Iosif, un sfetnic în Sinedriu, om bun și drept, (Mat 27:57; Mar 15:42; Ioan 19:38)51care nu fusese de acord cu planul și acțiunea lor. Era din Arimateea, o cetate a iudeilor, și aștepta și el Împărăția lui Dumnezeu.52Acesta a venit la Pilat și i‑a cerut trupul lui Isus.53După ce a dat jos trupul, L‑a înfășurat într‑o pânză de in și L‑a pus într‑un mormânt săpat în stâncă, în care nu mai fusese pus nimeni.54Era Ziua Pregătirii și începea Sabatul.55Femeile, cele care veniseră împreună cu Isus din Galileea, au mers după Iosif și au văzut mormântul și cum a fost pus trupul lui Isus în el.56Ele s‑au întors și au pregătit miresme și parfumuri. Apoi, în ziua de Sabat, s‑au odihnit, potrivit poruncii.
6When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.7And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. (Lu 3:1)8When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him. (Mat 12:38; Mat 14:1; Mar 6:14; Lu 9:9)9So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.11And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. (Mat 27:28; Mar 9:12; Mar 15:17; Lu 18:32; Fapte 4:11)12And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. (Ps 2:2; Fapte 4:27)13Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, (Lu 24:20)14and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. (Lu 23:2; Lu 23:4; Fapte 3:13)15Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. (Lu 23:11)16I will therefore punish and release him.”[1] (Lu 23:22; Ioan 19:1; Fapte 5:40)
Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified
18But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— (Mat 27:15; Mar 15:6; Ioan 18:39; Ioan 19:16; Fapte 21:36; Fapte 22:22)19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder. (Fapte 3:14)20Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,21but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”22A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.” (Lu 23:14; Lu 23:16; Lu 23:41; Ioan 8:46)23But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.24So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.25He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will. (Lu 23:19; Ioan 19:16)
The Crucifixion
26And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. (Mat 27:32; Mar 15:21; Ioan 19:17)27And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him. (Mat 11:17; Lu 8:52)28But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.29For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ (Mat 24:19; Mar 13:17; Lu 17:22; Lu 21:23)30Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ (Is 2:19; Os 10:8; Apo 6:16)31For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” (Prov 11:31; Ez 20:47; 1 Pe 4:17)32Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. (Mat 20:21; Mat 27:38; Mar 15:27; Ioan 19:18)33And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. (Mat 27:33; Mar 15:22; Lu 23:32; Ioan 19:17)34And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”[2] And they cast lots to divide his garments. (Ps 22:18; Is 53:12; Mat 5:44; Mat 27:35; Mar 10:38; Mar 15:24; Ioan 19:23; Fapte 3:17)35And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” (Ps 22:7; Ps 22:17; Is 42:1; Mat 1:17; Mat 12:18; Mat 26:53; Mat 27:41; Mar 15:31; Lu 4:3; Lu 4:9; Lu 4:23; Lu 9:20; Lu 9:35; Lu 16:14; Lu 24:20; Ioan 10:18; 1 Pe 2:4)36The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine (Ps 69:21; Mat 27:48; Mar 15:36; Ioan 19:29)37and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” (Lu 23:3; Lu 23:35)38There was also an inscription over him,[3] “This is the King of the Jews.” (Mat 27:37; Mar 15:26; Lu 23:37; Ioan 19:19; Ioan 19:21)39One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him,[4] saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” (Mat 27:39; Mat 27:44; Mar 15:32; Lu 23:35; Lu 23:37)40But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?41And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”42And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Mat 16:28)43And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (2 Cor 12:3; Apo 2:7)
The Death of Jesus
44It was now about the sixth hour,[5] and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,[6] (Mat 27:45; Mar 15:33; Ioan 19:14)45while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. (Ex 26:31; 2 Cro 3:14)46Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. (Ps 31:5; Mat 27:50; Mar 15:37; Ioan 10:18; Ioan 19:30; Fapte 7:59; 1 Pe 4:19)47Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!” (Mat 27:54; Mar 15:39; Lu 7:16)48And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts. (Lu 18:13)49And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things. (Ps 38:11; Ps 88:8; Lu 8:2; Lu 23:55; Ioan 19:25)
Jesus Is Buried
50Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, (Mat 27:57; Mar 15:42; Ioan 19:38)51who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God. (Lu 2:25; Lu 2:38)52This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.53Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid. (Is 53:9; Mar 11:2)54It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.[7] (Mat 27:62)55The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid. (Mat 28:1; Lu 23:49)56Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. (Ex 20:10; Deut 5:14; Mar 16:1; Lu 24:1; Ioan 19:39)
