1O, galateni nesăbuiți[1]! Cine v‑a fermecat pe voi, înaintea ochilor cărora Isus Cristos a fost înfățișat ca răstignit!2Un singur lucru doresc să aflu de la voi: ați primit Duhul prin faptele Legii sau prin auzirea credinței?3Sunteți chiar atât de nesăbuiți? După ce ați început în Duhul, sfârșiți acum în fire?4Ați suferit atâtea degeaba? – dacă într-adevăr a fost degeaba!5Prin urmare, Cel Ce vă oferă Duhul și înfăptuiește minuni între voi face acestea prin faptele Legii sau prin auzirea credinței?6Tot astfel, „Avraam a crezut în Dumnezeu, și aceasta i‑a fost considerată dreptate.“[2] (Gen 15:6)7Înțelegeți deci că cei ce cred[3], aceia sunt fii ai lui Avraam!8Iar Scriptura, care a prevăzut că Dumnezeu va îndreptăți neamurile prin credință, i‑a vestit mai dinainte lui Avraam Evanghelia: „În tine vor fi binecuvântate toate neamurile!“[4] (Gen 12:3; Gen 18:18; Gen 22:18)9Astfel, cei ce cred sunt binecuvântați împreună cu Avraam cel credincios.10Căci cei ce se bazează pe faptele Legii[5] sunt sub blestem, deoarece este scris: „Blestemat este oricine nu rămâne în toate lucrurile scrise în Cartea Legii, ca să le facă!“[6] (Deut 27:26)11Este clar că nimeni nu este îndreptățit înaintea lui Dumnezeu prin Lege, pentru că „Cel drept prin credință va trăi“[7], (Hab 2:4)12iar Legea nu se bazează pe credință, ci ea spune: „Cel ce le face va trăi prin ele.“[8] (Lev 18:5)13Cristos ne‑a răscumpărat de sub blestemul Legii, devenind blestem pentru noi – căci este scris: „Blestemat este oricine e atârnat pe lemn“[9] – (Deut 21:23)14pentru ca, în Cristos Isus, binecuvântarea lui Avraam să vină la neamuri, ca să primim, prin credință, promisiunea Duhului.
Legea și promisiunea
15Fraților – vorbesc în felul oamenilor – odată validat un legământ, chiar omenesc fiind, nimeni nu‑l anulează sau adaugă ceva la el.16Acum, promisiunile i‑au fost făcute lui Avraam și seminței lui. Scriptura nu spune „și semințelor“, ca și cum ar fi mai multe, ci ca și cum ar fi una: „și seminței tale“[10], care este Cristos. (Gen 12:7; Gen 13:15; Gen 24:7)17Ceea ce spun este aceasta: Legea, care a fost dată patru sute treizeci de ani mai târziu, nu poate desființa un legământ, care a fost stabilit mai înainte de către Dumnezeu, și astfel să anuleze promisiunea.18Căci dacă moștenirea este prin Lege, atunci nu mai este prin promisiune. Însă Dumnezeu i‑a dăruit‑o lui Avraam prin promisiune.19Atunci Legea pentru ce este? Ea a fost adăugată pentru abateri, până când avea să vină Sămânța Căreia I‑a fost făcută promisiunea, fiind dată[11] prin îngeri în mâna unui mijlocitor.[12]20Însă mijlocitorul nu este mijlocitorul unei singure părți, pe când Dumnezeu este Unul Singur.21Este, așadar, Legea împotriva promisiunilor lui Dumnezeu? În niciun caz! Căci, dacă ar fi fost dată o Lege care să poată da viața, atunci cu adevărat dreptatea ar fi venit prin Lege,22însă Scriptura a închis totul sub păcat, pentru ca promisiunea prin credința în Cristos Isus să fie dată celor ce cred.
Copii ai lui Dumnezeu
23Înainte de a veni credința, noi eram sub paza Legii, închiși până când avea să fie descoperită credința.24Astfel, Legea a fost îndrumătorul[13] nostru spre[14] Cristos, pentru ca noi să fim îndreptățiți prin credință.25Dar acum, după ce a venit credința, nu mai suntem sub îndrumătorul acesta.26Căci toți sunteți fii ai lui Dumnezeu prin credința în Isus Cristos.27Fiindcă toți câți ați fost botezați în Cristos, v‑ați îmbrăcat cu Cristos.28Nu mai este nici iudeu, nici grec; nu mai este nici sclav, nici om liber; nu mai este nici bărbat, nici femeie, pentru că voi toți sunteți una în Cristos Isus.29Iar dacă voi sunteți ai lui Cristos, atunci sunteți sămânța lui Avraam și moștenitori după promisiunea făcută.
1O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. (Num 21:9; 1 Cor 1:23)2Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? (Fapte 15:8; Ro 10:17; Gal 3:14; Ef 1:13; Ev 6:4)3Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by[1] the flesh? (Gal 4:9; Filip 1:6)4Did you suffer[2] so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? (1 Cor 15:2; Ev 10:35; 2 Ioan 1:8)5Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— (1 Cor 12:10; Gal 3:2)6just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”? (Gen 15:6; Ro 4:3; Ro 4:9; Ro 4:21)7Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. (Lu 19:9; Gal 3:9)8And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify[3] the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” (Gen 12:3; Ro 3:30)9So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
The Righteous Shall Live by Faith
10For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” (Deut 27:26; Ier 11:3; Ez 18:4; Mat 5:19; Ro 4:15; Gal 5:4)11Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”[4] (Hab 2:4; Ro 1:17; Gal 2:16; Ev 10:38)12But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” (Lev 18:5; Ro 10:5)13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— (Deut 21:23; Fapte 5:30; Gal 4:5; 2 Pe 2:1; Apo 22:3)14so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit[5] through faith. (Is 32:15; Is 44:3; Ioel 2:28; Ioan 7:39; Fapte 2:33; Ro 4:9; Ro 4:16; Gal 3:2; Gal 3:28; Ef 1:13)
The Law and the Promise
15To give a human example, brothers:[6] even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. (Ro 3:5; Ev 9:17)16Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. (Gen 12:7; Lu 1:55; Fapte 3:25; Fapte 13:32; Ro 4:13; Ro 4:16)17This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. (Gen 15:13; Ex 12:40; Fapte 7:6; Ro 4:14)18For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. (Ev 6:13)19Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary. (Ex 20:19; Ex 20:21; Deut 5:5; Deut 5:22; Deut 5:27; Deut 5:31; Fapte 7:38; Fapte 7:53; Ro 4:15; Gal 3:16; Ev 2:2)20Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one. (Ro 3:30; 1 Tim 2:5; Ev 6:17; Ev 8:6; Ev 9:15; Ev 12:24)21Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. (Gal 2:21)22But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (Fapte 10:43; Ro 3:9; Ro 4:16; Ro 11:32)23Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. (1 Pe 1:5)24So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. (Mat 5:17; Ro 10:4; 1 Cor 4:15; Gal 2:16; Gal 3:11; Col 2:17; Ev 9:9)25But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,26for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. (Ioan 1:12; Ro 8:14; Gal 4:5)27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Fapte 8:16; Ro 6:3; Ro 13:14)28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave[7] nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Ro 3:30; 1 Cor 11:11; 1 Cor 12:13; Gal 3:14; Gal 5:6; Gal 6:15)29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Ro 8:17; Ro 9:7; 1 Cor 3:23; Gal 4:1; Gal 4:7; Gal 4:28; Ef 3:6; 2 Tim 1:1; Tit 1:2; Ev 9:15)
