1Apoi DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Du‑te la Faraon, căci i‑am împietrit[1] inima atât lui, cât și slujitorilor săi, ca să fac aceste semne ale Mele în mijlocul lor, (Ex 4:21)2iar voi să puteți istorisi în auzul copiilor și al nepoților voștri cât de aspru M‑am purtat cu egiptenii și ce semne am făcut în mijlocul lor și astfel să știți că Eu sunt DOMNUL.“3Moise și Aaron s‑au dus la Faraon și i‑au zis: „Așa vorbește DOMNUL, Dumnezeul evreilor: «Până când vei refuza să te smerești înaintea Mea? Lasă‑Mi poporul să plece ca să‑Mi slujească.4Căci, dacă refuzi să‑Mi lași poporul să plece, iată, voi aduce mâine lăcuste pe teritoriul tău.5Ele vor acoperi întinderea[2] țării și nimeni nu va mai putea vedea pământul. Ele vor devora tot ce v‑a mai rămas după grindină, vor devora orice copac care crește pe câmp și6îți vor umple palatele, casele slujitorilor tăi și ale tuturor egiptenilor. Va fi ceva ce nici părinții, nici părinții părinților tăi n‑au văzut de când sunt ei pe pământ și până în ziua aceasta.»“ Apoi ei s‑au întors și au ieșit de la Faraon.7Slujitorii lui Faraon i‑au zis acestuia: „Până când va fi omul acesta o cursă pentru noi? Lasă‑i pe oamenii aceștia să plece ca să slujească DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul lor. Încă nu înțelegi că Egiptul este ruinat?“8Moise și Aaron au fost aduși înapoi la Faraon și el le‑a zis: – Duceți‑vă! Slujiți DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul vostru! Dar cine dintre voi va merge?9Moise i‑a răspuns: – Vom merge cu tinerii și cu bătrânii noștri, cu fiii și fiicele noastre, cu turmele și cirezile noastre, pentru că avem de ținut o sărbătoare în cinstea DOMNULUI.10El le‑a zis: – Așa să fie DOMNUL cu voi, cum vă voi lăsa eu să plecați pe voi și pe copiii voștri! Băgați de seamă, căci știu că aveți de gând să faceți ceva rău[3]!11Nu așa; duceți‑vă doar voi, bărbații, și slujiți DOMNULUI, căci aceasta ați cerut. Și au fost alungați dinaintea lui Faraon.12După aceea, DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Întinde‑ți mâna peste țara Egiptului, ca să iasă lăcustele peste ea și să devoreze orice plantă din țara Egiptului, tot ce a mai rămas după grindină.“13Moise și‑a întins toiagul peste țara Egiptului, și DOMNUL a adus vântul de răsărit peste țară toată ziua aceea și toată noaptea. Când s‑a făcut dimineață, vântul de răsărit a adus lăcustele.14Lăcustele au venit peste toată țara Egiptului și s‑au așezat pe întreg teritoriul ei. Era un roi de lăcuste atât de numeros, cum n‑a mai fost vreodată și nu va mai fi.15Ele au acoperit întreaga țară, și tot pământul s‑a înnegrit. Au devorat toate plantele din țară și tot rodul pomilor pe care l‑a lăsat grindina. În toată țara Egiptului n‑a mai rămas nimic verde, nici copaci și nici plante pe câmp.16Faraon i‑a chemat repede pe Moise și pe Aaron și le‑a zis: „Am păcătuit împotriva DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul vostru, și împotriva voastră.17Iartă‑mi păcatul și de data acesta și rugați‑vă DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul vostru, ca să îndepărteze de la mine această urgie de moarte.“18Moise a ieșit de la Faraon și s‑a rugat DOMNULUI.19DOMNUL a făcut să sufle dinspre apus un vânt foarte puternic care a luat lăcustele și le‑a aruncat în Marea Roșie[4]. Nicio lăcustă n‑a rămas pe întreg teritoriul Egiptului. (1 Re 9:26; Iona 2:5)20Dar DOMNUL i‑a împietrit[5] inima lui Faraon și acesta nu i‑a lăsat pe fiii lui Israel să plece. (Ex 4:21)
A noua urgie: întunericul
21Apoi DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Întinde‑ți mâna spre cer și va fi întuneric peste toată țara Egiptului, atât de întuneric, încât să‑l poți pipăi.“22Moise și‑a întins mâna spre cer și a fost întuneric beznă în toată țara Egiptului timp de trei zile.23Nu se vedeau unii pe alții și timp de trei zile nu s‑a ridicat niciunul din locul în care era. Dar toți fiii lui Israel au avut lumină în locuințele lor.24Faraon l‑a chemat pe Moise și i‑a zis: – Duceți‑vă! Slujiți DOMNULUI. Copiii voștri pot merge cu voi, însă turmele și cirezile voastre vor rămâne.25Moise a răspuns: – Ne vei da tu în mâini jertfe și arderi‑de‑tot, pe care să le aducem DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul nostru?26Și vitele noastre trebuie să meargă cu noi. Nicio copită nu va rămâne, căci din ele vom lua ca să‑I slujim DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul nostru, și până vom ajunge acolo nu știm ce vom folosi ca să‑I slujim DOMNULUI.27Dar DOMNUL i‑a împietrit[6] inima lui Faraon și acesta n‑a vrut să‑i lase să plece. (Ex 4:21)28Apoi Faraon i‑a zis: – Pleacă de la mine! Ferește‑te să‑mi mai vezi fața, pentru că, în ziua în care‑mi vei vedea fața, vei muri.29Moise i‑a răspuns: – Să fie precum ai zis. Nu‑ți voi mai vedea fața.
1Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them,2and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” (Ex 7:17; Ex 13:8; Ex 13:14; Deut 4:9; Deut 6:20; Ps 78:5; Ioel 1:3)3So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. (1 Re 21:29)4For if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country, (Lev 11:22; Prov 30:27; Ioel 1:4; Ioel 2:25; Apo 9:3)5and they shall cover the face of the land, so that no one can see the land. And they shall eat what is left to you after the hail, and they shall eat every tree of yours that grows in the field, (Ex 9:32)6and they shall fill your houses and the houses of all your servants and of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day they came on earth to this day.’” Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh. (Ex 8:3; Ex 8:21; Ioel 2:9)7Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?”8So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. And he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. But which ones are to go?” (Ex 10:24)9Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old. We will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.” (Ex 3:18; Ex 5:1)10But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind.[1] (Ex 10:24)11No! Go, the men among you, and serve the Lord, for that is what you are asking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.12Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, so that they may come upon the land of Egypt and eat every plant in the land, all that the hail has left.” (Ex 7:19; Ex 10:4)13So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind had brought the locusts.14The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled on the whole country of Egypt, such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before, nor ever will be again. (Ps 78:46; Ps 105:34; Ioel 2:2)15They covered the face of the whole land, so that the land was darkened, and they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Not a green thing remained, neither tree nor plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt. (Ps 105:35)16Then Pharaoh hastily called Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. (Ex 9:27)17Now therefore, forgive my sin, please, only this once, and plead with the Lord your God only to remove this death from me.” (Ex 8:8)18So he went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord. (Ex 8:30; Ex 9:33)19And the Lord turned the wind into a very strong west wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt. (Ioel 2:20)20But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go. (Ex 4:21)
The Ninth Plague: Darkness
21Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.” (Ex 10:12; Ps 105:28)22So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.23They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the people of Israel had light where they lived. (Ex 8:22; Ex 9:4; Ex 9:6)24Then Pharaoh called Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; your little ones also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” (Ex 10:8; Ex 10:10)25But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.26Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the Lord our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”27But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go. (Ex 10:20)28Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me; take care never to see my face again, for on the day you see my face you shall die.”29Moses said, “As you say! I will not see your face again.” (Ev 11:27)
