1Gesù diceva ancora ai discepoli: «C’era un uomo ricco che aveva un amministratore, il quale fu accusato davanti a lui di sperperare i suoi beni.2Egli lo chiamò e gli disse: “Che cos’è questo che sento dire di te? Rendi conto della tua amministrazione, perché tu non puoi più essere amministratore”.3L’amministratore disse fra sé: “Che farò, ora che il padrone mi toglie l’amministrazione? Di zappare non sono capace; di mendicare mi vergogno.4So quello che farò, perché qualcuno mi riceva in casa sua quando sarò rimosso dall’amministrazione”.5Fece venire uno per uno i debitori del suo padrone e disse al primo: “Quanto devi al mio padrone?”6Quello rispose: “Cento bati d’olio”. Egli disse: “Prendi la tua scritta, siedi e scrivi presto: cinquanta”.7Poi disse a un altro: “E tu, quanto devi?” Quello rispose: “Cento cori di grano”. Egli disse: “Prendi la tua scritta e scrivi: ottanta”.8E il padrone lodò l’amministratore disonesto perché aveva agito con avvedutezza; poiché i figli di questo mondo, nelle relazioni con quelli della loro generazione, sono più avveduti dei figli della luce.9E io vi dico: fatevi degli amici con le ricchezze ingiuste, perché quando esse verranno a mancare, quelli vi ricevano nelle dimore eterne.10Chi è fedele nelle cose minime è fedele anche nelle grandi, e chi è ingiusto nelle cose minime è ingiusto anche nelle grandi.11Se dunque non siete stati fedeli nelle ricchezze ingiuste, chi vi affiderà quelle vere?12E, se non siete stati fedeli nei beni altrui, chi vi darà i vostri?13Nessun domestico può servire due padroni; perché o odierà l’uno e amerà l’altro, o avrà riguardo per l’uno e disprezzo per l’altro. Voi non potete servire Dio e Mammona[1]».
Gesù condanna l’avarizia
14I farisei, che amavano il denaro, udivano tutte queste cose e si beffavano di lui.15Ed egli disse loro: «Voi vi proclamate giusti davanti agli uomini, ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori; perché quello che è eccelso tra gli uomini è abominevole davanti a Dio.16La legge e i profeti hanno durato fino a Giovanni; da quel tempo è annunciata la buona notizia del regno di Dio, e ciascuno vi entra a forza.17È più facile che passino cielo e terra, anziché cada un solo apice della legge.
Il ricco e Lazzaro
18«Chiunque manda via la moglie e ne sposa un’altra commette adulterio, e chi sposa una donna mandata via dal marito commette adulterio.19«C’era un uomo ricco, che si vestiva di porpora e di bisso, e ogni giorno si divertiva splendidamente.20Un mendicante, chiamato Lazzaro, stava alla sua porta, pieno di ulceri21e bramoso di sfamarsi con quello che cadeva dalla tavola del ricco; e perfino i cani venivano a leccargli le ulceri.22Avvenne che il povero morì e fu portato dagli angeli nel seno di Abraamo[2]; morì anche il ricco, e fu sepolto.23E nell’Ades[3], essendo nei tormenti, alzò gli occhi e vide da lontano Abraamo, e Lazzaro nel suo seno;24ed esclamò: “Padre Abraamo, abbi pietà di me, e manda Lazzaro a intingere la punta del dito nell’acqua per rinfrescarmi la lingua, perché sono tormentato in questa fiamma”.25Ma Abraamo disse: “Figlio, ricòrdati che tu nella tua vita hai ricevuto i tuoi beni e che Lazzaro similmente ricevette i mali; ma ora qui egli è consolato, e tu sei tormentato.26Oltre a tutto questo, fra noi e voi è posta una grande voragine, perché quelli che vorrebbero passare di qui a voi non possano, né di là si passi da noi”.27Ed egli disse: “Ti prego, dunque, o padre, che tu lo mandi a casa di mio padre,28perché ho cinque fratelli, affinché li avverta, e non vengano anche loro in questo luogo di tormento”.29Abraamo disse: “Hanno Mosè e i profeti; ascoltino quelli”.30Ed egli: “No, padre Abraamo; ma se qualcuno dai morti va a loro, si ravvederanno”.31Abraamo rispose: “Se non ascoltano Mosè e i profeti, non si lasceranno persuadere neppure se uno dei morti risuscita”».
1Dann wandte sich Jesus seinen Jüngern zu: „Ein reicher Mann hatte einen Verwalter. Der wurde bei ihm angeklagt, er würde sein Vermögen verschwenden.2Sein Herr stellte ihn zur Rede: 'Was muss ich von dir hören? Leg die Abrechnung über deine Arbeit vor! Denn du wirst nicht länger mein Verwalter sein.'3Der Verwalter sagte sich: 'Was soll ich machen, wenn mein Herr mir die Verwaltung abnimmt? Für schwere Arbeit tauge ich nicht, und zu betteln schäme ich mich.4Doch! Jetzt weiß ich, was ich tun muss, damit sie mich in ihre Häuser aufnehmen, wenn ich entlassen bin.'5Er rief nacheinander alle zu sich, die bei seinem Herrn Schulden hatten. 'Wie viel schuldest du meinem Herrn?', fragte er den Ersten.6Hundert Bat[1] Olivenöl', sagte dieser. 'Hier ist dein Schuldschein', sagte der Verwalter, 'setz dich hin und schreib fünfzig!'7Dann fragte er den Nächsten: 'Und du, wie viel Schulden hast du?' 'Hundert Kor[2] Weizen', antwortete der. 'Hier ist dein Schuldschein', sagte der Verwalter, 'setz dich hin und schreib achtzig!'“8Und dann lobte der Herr den unehrlichen Verwalter, weil er klug gehandelt hatte. „Denn die Menschen dieser Welt“, sagte er, „sind klüger im Umgang miteinander als die Menschen des Lichts.9Und ich sage euch: Macht euch Freunde mit dem Mammon,[3] an dem so viel Unrecht hängt, damit man euch dann, wenn es damit zu Ende ist, in die ewigen Wohnungen aufnimmt.10Wer in den kleinen Dingen treu ist, ist auch in großen treu; und wer in den kleinen Dingen unzuverlässig ist, ist es auch in den großen.11Wenn ihr also im Umgang mit dem ungerechten Mammon nicht treu seid, wer wird euch dann die wahren Güter anvertrauen?12Und wenn ihr mit fremdem Eigentum nicht treu seid, wer wird euch dann das anvertrauen, was euch gehören soll?13Kein Diener kann zwei Herren dienen. Entweder wird er den einen bevorzugen und den anderen vernachlässigen oder dem einen treu sein und den anderen hintergehen. Ihr könnt nicht Gott dienen und gleichzeitig dem Mammon.“14Das alles hatten auch die Pharisäer mitgehört, die sehr an ihrem Geld hingen, und sie machten sich über ihn lustig.15Da sagte er zu ihnen: „Ihr wollt den Leuten weismachen, dass ihr die Gerechten seid! Aber Gott kennt eure Herzen. Was bei den Menschen Eindruck macht, ist Gott ein Gräuel.“
Das Gesetz hat Bestand
16„Bis Johannes der Täufer zu predigen begann, hattet ihr nur Mose und die Propheten. Seitdem wird die Freudenbotschaft vom Reich Gottes verkündigt, und die Menschen drängen sich mit aller Gewalt hinein.17Doch eher vergehen Himmel und Erde, als dass auch nur ein Strichlein vom Gesetz hinfällig wird.18Zum Beispiel begeht jeder, der sich von seiner Frau scheiden lässt und eine andere heiratet, Ehebruch. Und wer eine geschiedene Frau heiratet, begeht ebenfalls Ehebruch.19Da war ein reicher Mann, der auffällig teure Kleidung trug und jeden Tag seinen Luxus genoss.20Vor dem Tor seines Hauses lag ein Armer namens Lazarus. Sein Körper war voller Geschwüre.21Gern hätte er seinen Hunger mit den Küchenabfällen gestillt, doch nur die Hunde kamen und leckten an seinen Geschwüren.22Der Arme starb und wurde von den Engeln zu Abraham gebracht. Dort erhielt er den Ehrenplatz direkt neben ihm. Auch der Reiche starb und wurde begraben.23Als er in der Hölle[4] wieder zu sich kam und Folterqualen litt, sah er in weiter Ferne Abraham und Lazarus an seiner Seite.24Da rief er: 'Vater Abraham, hab Erbarmen mit mir! Schick mir doch Lazarus! Lass ihn seine Fingerspitze ins Wasser tauchen und meine Zunge kühlen, denn ich werde in der Glut dieser Flammen sehr gequält.'25Doch Abraham erwiderte: 'Mein Kind, denk daran, dass du schon in deinem Leben alles Gute bekommen hast, Lazarus aber nur das Schlechte. Dafür wird er jetzt hier getröstet, und du hast zu leiden.26Außerdem liegt zwischen uns und euch ein so tiefer Abgrund, dass niemand von uns zu euch hinüberkommen kann, selbst wenn er es wollte; und auch von euch kann niemand zu uns herüberkommen.'27Vater Abraham', bat der Reiche, 'dann schick ihn doch wenigstens in das Haus meines Vaters!28Denn ich habe noch fünf Brüder. Er soll sie warnen, damit sie nicht auch an diesen Ort der Qual kommen.'29Doch Abraham sagte: 'Sie haben die Worte von Mose und den Propheten, auf die sollen sie hören.'30Nein, Vater Abraham', wandte er ein, 'es müsste einer von den Toten zu ihnen kommen, dann würden sie ihre Einstellung ändern.'31Darauf sagte Abraham zu ihm: 'Wenn sie nicht auf Mose und die Propheten hören, werden sie sich auch nicht überzeugen lassen, wenn einer von den Toten aufersteht.'“
1He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.4I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’5So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’6He said, ‘A hundred measures[1] of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’7Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures[2] of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’8The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world[3] are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. (Mat 25,2; Lu 10,6; Lu 20,34; Giov 12,36; Ef 5,8; 1Te 5,5)9And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth,[4] so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. (Mat 25,21; Mat 25,23; Lu 19,17)11If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?12And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? (1Cr 29,14; 1Cr 29,16)13No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Lu 16,9)
The Law and the Kingdom of God
14The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. (Lu 11,39; Lu 20,47; Lu 23,35; 1Ti 6,10; 2Ti 3,2)15And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. (1Sam 16,7; 1Cr 28,9; Prov 16,5; Prov 21,2; Lu 10,29)16“The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.[5] (Mat 11,12; Lu 4,43; Lu 15,1)17But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void. (Mat 5,18)
Divorce and Remarriage
18“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery. (Mat 5,32)
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. (Est 8,15; Giac 5,5; Ap 18,16)20And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, (At 3,2)21who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. (Mat 15,27)22The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side.[6] The rich man also died and was buried, (Mat 18,10; Lu 12,8; Lu 15,10; Giov 13,23; At 12,15; Eb 1,13)23and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. (Mat 8,11; Mat 11,23; Lu 16,22)24And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ (Is 66,24; Zac 14,12; Mat 25,41; Lu 16,30; Giov 8,33; Giov 8,39; Giov 8,53)25But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. (Giob 21,13; Sal 17,14; Lu 6,24)26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’27And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house—28for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’29But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ (Lu 16,31; Lu 24,27; Giov 5,45; At 26,22; At 28,23)30And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ (Lu 16,24)31He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’” (Mat 28,11; Lu 16,29; Giov 12,10)

Al primero le preguntó: “¿Cuánto le debes a mi patrón?”6“Cien barriles[1] de aceite”, le contestó él. El administrador le dijo: “Toma tu factura, siéntate en seguida y escribe cincuenta.”7Luego preguntó al segundo: “Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?” “Cien bultos[2] de trigo”, contestó. El administrador le dijo: “Toma tu factura y escribe ochenta.”8»Pues bien, el patrón elogió al administrador de riquezas mundanas[3] por haber actuado con astucia. Es que los de este mundo, en su trato con los que son como ellos, son más astutos que los que han recibido la luz.9Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas mundanas para ganar amigos,[4] a fin de que cuando éstas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas.10»El que es honrado[5] en lo poco, también lo será en lo mucho; y el que no es íntegro en lo poco, tampoco lo será en lo mucho.11Por eso, si ustedes no han sido honrados en el uso de las riquezas mundanas,[6] ¿quién les confiará las verdaderas?12Y si con lo ajeno no han sido honrados, ¿quién les dará a ustedes lo que les pertenece?13»Ningún sirviente puede servir a dos patrones. Menospreciará a uno y amará al otro, o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas.»14Oían todo esto los fariseos, a quienes les encantaba el dinero, y se burlaban de Jesús.15Él les dijo: «Ustedes se hacen los buenos ante la gente, pero Dios conoce sus corazones. Dense cuenta de que aquello que la gente tiene en gran estima es detestable delante de Dios.
Otras enseñanzas
16»La ley y los profetas se proclamaron hasta Juan. Desde entonces se anuncian las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él.[7]17Es más fácil que desaparezcan el cielo y la tierra, que caiga una sola tilde de la ley.18»Todo el que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la divorciada, comete adulterio.
El rico y Lázaro
19»Había un hombre rico que se vestía lujosamente[8] y daba espléndidos banquetes todos los días.20A la puerta de su casa se tendía un mendigo llamado Lázaro, que estaba cubierto de llagas21y que hubiera querido llenarse el estómago con lo que caía de la mesa del rico. Hasta los perros se acercaban y le lamían las llagas.22»Resulta que murió el mendigo, y los ángeles se lo llevaron para que estuviera al lado de Abraham. También murió el rico, y lo sepultaron.23En el infierno,[9] en medio de sus tormentos, el rico levantó los ojos y vio de lejos a Abraham, y a Lázaro junto a él.24Así que alzó la voz y lo llamó: “Padre Abraham, ten compasión de mí y manda a Lázaro que moje la punta del dedo en agua y me refresque la lengua, porque estoy sufriendo mucho en este fuego.”25Pero Abraham le contestó: “Hijo, recuerda que durante tu vida te fue muy bien, mientras que a Lázaro le fue muy mal; pero ahora a él le toca recibir consuelo aquí, y a ti, sufrir terriblemente.26Además de eso, hay un gran abismo entre nosotros y ustedes, de modo que los que quieren pasar de aquí para allá no pueden, ni tampoco pueden los de allá para acá.”27»Él respondió: “Entonces te ruego, padre, que mandes a Lázaro a la casa de mi padre,28para que advierta a mis cinco hermanos y no vengan ellos también a este lugar de tormento.”29Pero Abraham le contestó: “Ya tienen a Moisés y a los profetas; ¡que les hagan caso a ellos!”30“No les harán caso, padre Abraham —replicó el rico—; en cambio, si se les presentara uno de entre los muertos, entonces sí se arrepentirían.”31Abraham le dijo: “Si no les hacen caso a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se convencerán aunque alguien se levante de entre los muertos.” »
