1Allora Giuseppe non poté più contenersi davanti a tutto il suo seguito e gridò: «Fate uscire tutti dalla mia presenza!» Nessuno rimase con Giuseppe quando egli si fece riconoscere dai suoi fratelli.2Alzò la voce piangendo; gli Egiziani lo udirono e lo udì la casa del faraone.3Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Io sono Giuseppe! Mio padre vive ancora?» Ma i suoi fratelli non gli potevano rispondere, perché erano atterriti dalla sua presenza.4Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Vi prego, avvicinatevi a me!» Quelli s’avvicinarono ed egli disse: «Io sono Giuseppe, vostro fratello, che voi vendeste perché fosse portato in Egitto.5Ma ora non vi rattristate, né vi dispiaccia di avermi venduto perché io fossi portato qui; poiché Dio mi ha mandato qui prima di voi per conservarvi in vita.6Infatti, sono due anni che la carestia è nel paese e ce ne saranno altri cinque, durante i quali non ci sarà raccolto né mietitura.7Ma Dio mi ha mandato qui prima di voi, perché sia conservato di voi un residuo sulla terra e per salvare la vita a molti scampati.8Non siete dunque voi che mi avete mandato qui, ma è Dio. Egli mi ha stabilito come padre[1] del faraone, signore di tutta la sua casa e governatore di tutto il paese d’Egitto.9Affrettatevi a risalire da mio padre e ditegli: “Così dice tuo figlio Giuseppe: ‘Dio mi ha stabilito signore di tutto l’Egitto; scendi da me, non tardare.10Tu abiterai nel paese di Goscen[2] e sarai vicino a me: tu e i tuoi figli, i figli dei tuoi figli, le tue greggi, i tuoi armenti e tutto quello che possiedi.11Qui io ti sostenterò (perché ci saranno ancora cinque anni di carestia), affinché tu non sia ridotto in miseria: tu, la tua famiglia e tutto quello che possiedi’”.12Ecco, voi vedete con i vostri occhi, e mio fratello Beniamino vede con i suoi occhi, che è proprio la mia bocca quella che vi parla.13Raccontate dunque a mio padre tutta la mia gloria in Egitto e tutto quello che avete visto; e fate che mio padre scenda presto qua».14Poi si gettò al collo di Beniamino, suo fratello, e pianse; e Beniamino pianse sul collo di lui.15Baciò pure tutti i suoi fratelli, piangendo. Dopo questo, i suoi fratelli si misero a parlare con lui.16Intanto la voce si diffuse nella casa del faraone, e si disse: «Sono arrivati i fratelli di Giuseppe». Questo piacque al faraone e ai suoi servitori.17Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Di’ ai tuoi fratelli: “Fate questo: caricate le vostre bestie e andate, tornate al paese di Canaan;18prendete vostro padre, le vostre famiglie e venite da me; io vi darò il meglio del paese d’Egitto e voi mangerete il grasso della terra”.19Tu hai l’ordine di dire loro: “Fate questo: prendete nel paese d’Egitto dei carri per i vostri bambini e per le vostre mogli; conducete vostro padre e venite.20E non vi rincresca di lasciare la vostra roba, perché il meglio di tutto il paese d’Egitto sarà vostro”».21I figli d’Israele fecero così e Giuseppe diede loro dei carri, secondo l’ordine del faraone, e diede loro delle provviste per il viaggio.22Diede un abito di ricambio per ciascuno, ma a Beniamino diede trecento sicli d’argento e cinque mute di vestiti;23a suo padre mandò questo: dieci asini carichi delle migliori cose d’Egitto, dieci asine cariche di grano, di pane e di viveri per suo padre durante il viaggio.24Così congedò i suoi fratelli e questi partirono; ed egli disse loro: «Non ci siano, durante il viaggio, delle liti tra di voi».25Essi risalirono dall’Egitto e giunsero nel paese di Canaan, da Giacobbe loro padre.26Gli riferirono ogni cosa, dicendo: «Giuseppe vive ancora ed è governatore di tutto il paese d’Egitto». Ma il suo cuore rimase freddo, perché egli non credeva loro.27Essi gli ripeterono tutte le parole che Giuseppe aveva dette loro. Quando egli vide i carri che Giuseppe aveva mandato per trasportarlo, lo spirito di Giacobbe loro padre si ravvivò.28E Israele disse: «Basta, mio figlio Giuseppe vive ancora; io andrò e lo vedrò prima di morire».
1Da konnte Josef sich vor seinen Leuten nicht länger beherrschen. Schnell schickte er sie alle hinaus. So stand niemand mehr bei ihm, als er sich seinen Brüdern zu erkennen gab.2Er weinte so laut, dass die Ägypter es hörten; auch am Hof des Pharao hörte man bald davon.3„Ich bin Josef!“, sagte er zu seinen Brüdern. „Lebt mein Vater noch?“ Seine Brüder aber brachten kein Wort heraus; fassungslos standen sie vor ihm.4Da sagte Josef zu seinen Brüdern: „Kommt doch her!“ Und als sie herantraten, sagte er: „Ich bin Josef, euer Bruder, den ihr nach Ägypten verkauft habt.5Erschreckt nicht und macht euch deswegen keine Vorwürfe! Denn Gott hat mich vor euch hierher geschickt, um viele Leben zu erhalten.6Denn die Hungersnot ist schon zwei Jahre im Land, und noch fünf Jahre lang wird es kein Pflügen und Ernten geben.7Doch Gott hat mich vor euch her geschickt, um euch Fortbestand auf der Erde zu geben und euch für eine große Rettung[1] am Leben zu erhalten.8Nicht ihr habt mich hierher gebracht, sondern Gott. Er hat mich zum Vater[2] für den Pharao gemacht, zum Herrn für seinen Hof und zum Herrscher über das ganze Land Ägypten.9Macht euch schnell auf den Weg zu meinem Vater und sagt ihm:
, So spricht dein Sohn Josef: Gott hat mich zum Herrn von ganz Ägypten gemacht. Komm her zu mir, lass dich nicht aufhalten!10Du sollst im Gebiet von Goschen[3] wohnen, ganz in meiner Nähe. Bring deine Kinder und Enkel mit, deine Schafe, deine Rinder und alles, was du hast.11Ich will dich dort versorgen, damit du mit deiner Familie nicht in Armut gerätst, denn die Hungersnot dauert noch fünf Jahre.'12Ihr seht es doch mit eigenen Augen, dass ich es bin, der mit euch redet, und auch du, mein Bruder Benjamin!13Ihr müsst meinem Vater von meiner Stellung hier in Ägypten erzählen. Berichtet ihm alles, was ihr gesehen habt! Und beeilt euch und bringt meinen Vater zu mir her!“14Dann fiel er seinem Bruder Benjamin um den Hals, und beide weinten.15Danach küsste er unter Tränen auch seine anderen Brüder. Erst dann fanden diese ihre Sprache wieder und redeten mit ihm.16Als die Nachricht: „Josefs Brüder sind gekommen!“ den Hof des Pharao erreichte, löste sie bei ihm und seinen Beamten Freude aus.17Der Pharao sagte zu Josef: „Sag deinen Brüdern, sie sollen ihre Tiere beladen, ins Land Kanaan reisen18und euren Vater und eure Familien herholen. Ich will euch das Beste geben, was Ägypten zu bieten hat, ihr sollt die besten Erzeugnisse des Landes genießen.19Du bist berechtigt, sie anzuweisen: 'Nehmt euch Wagen aus Ägypten für eure Frauen und Kinder mit und lasst euren Vater aufsteigen und kommt!20Bedauert nicht den Verlust eures Hausrats, denn das Beste, was Ägypten zu bieten hat, soll euch gehören.'“21Die Söhne Israels machten es so. Nach Weisung des Pharao gab Josef ihnen Wagen und Verpflegung für die Reise mit.22Jedem schenkte er ein Festgewand. Doch Benjamin gab er fünf Festgewänder und 300 ‹Schekel› Silber dazu.23Seinem Vater schickte er zehn Esel, beladen mit dem Besten Ägyptens, und zehn Eselinnen, beladen mit Getreide, Brot und anderen Nahrungsmitteln für die Reise.24Dann verabschiedete er seine Brüder, und sie zogen los. „Streitet euch nicht auf dem Weg!“, rief er ihnen nach.25Sie zogen also von Ägypten hinauf und kamen nach Kanaan zu ihrem Vater Jakob.26„Josef lebt!“, riefen sie. „Er ist sogar der Herr über ganz Ägypten!“ Aber sein Herz blieb kalt. Er glaubte ihnen nicht.27Da erzählten sie ihm ausführlich alles, was Josef ihnen aufgetragen hatte. Und als ihr Vater die Wagen sah, die Josef mitgeschickt hatte, um ihn zu holen, kam wieder Leben in ihn.28„Genug!“, rief er. „Mein Sohn Josef lebt noch! Ich will hin und ihn sehen, bevor ich sterbe!“
1Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, “Make everyone go out from me.” So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. (Gen 43,31; Est 5,10)2And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it.3And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. (At 7,13)4So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. (Gen 37,28)5And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. (Gen 50,20; Sal 105,16; Sal 105,17)6For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. (Gen 41,30; Eso 34,21; De 21,4; 1Sam 8,12; Is 30,24)7And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.8So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. (Gen 41,43; Gen 45,26)9Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not tarry.10You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children’s children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. (Gen 46,34; Gen 47,1; Gen 47,4; Gen 47,6; Gen 47,27; Gen 50,8; Eso 8,22; Gios 10,41)11There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’ (Gen 47,12; Gen 50,21)12And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. (Gen 42,23)13You must tell my father of all my honor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here.” (At 7,14)14Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck.15And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. After that his brothers talked with him.16When the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house, “Joseph’s brothers have come,” it pleased Pharaoh and his servants.17And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your beasts and go back to the land of Canaan,18and take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.’ (Gen 47,6)19And you, Joseph, are commanded to say, ‘Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. (Gen 46,5)20Have no concern for[1] your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’”21The sons of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey. (Gen 19,1)22To each and all of them he gave a change of clothes, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels[2] of silver and five changes of clothes. (Gen 43,34; 2Re 5,5; 2Re 5,22; 2Re 5,23)23To his father he sent as follows: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and provision for his father on the journey.24Then he sent his brothers away, and as they departed, he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” (Gen 42,22)25So they went up out of Egypt and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob.26And they told him, “Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” And his heart became numb, for he did not believe them.27But when they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. (Gen 45,19; Gen 46,5)28And Israel said, “It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Cuando ellos se acercaron, él añadió: —Yo soy José, el hermano de ustedes, a quien vendieron a Egipto.5Pero ahora, por favor no se aflijan más ni se reprochen el haberme vendido, pues en realidad fue Dios quien me mandó delante de ustedes para salvar vidas.6Desde hace dos años la región está sufriendo de hambre, y todavía faltan cinco años más en que no habrá siembras ni cosechas.7Por eso Dios me envió delante de ustedes: para salvarles la vida de manera extraordinaria[1] y de ese modo asegurarles descendencia sobre la tierra.8Fue Dios quien me envió aquí, y no ustedes. Él me ha puesto como asesor[2] del faraón y administrador de su casa, y como gobernador de todo Egipto.9¡Vamos, apúrense! Vuelvan a la casa de mi padre y díganle: “Así dice tu hijo José: ‘Dios me ha hecho gobernador de todo Egipto. Ven a verme. No te demores.10Vivirás en la región de Gosén, cerca de mí, con tus hijos y tus nietos, y con tus ovejas, y vacas y todas tus posesiones.11Yo les proveeré alimento allí, porque aún quedan cinco años más de hambre. De lo contrario, tú y tu familia, y todo lo que te pertenece, caerán en la miseria.’ ”12Además, ustedes y mi hermano Benjamín son testigos de que yo mismo lo he dicho.13Cuéntenle a mi padre del prestigio que tengo en Egipto, y de todo lo que han visto. ¡Pero apúrense y tráiganlo ya!14Y abrazó José a su hermano Benjamín, y comenzó a llorar. Benjamín, a su vez, también lloró abrazado a su hermano José.15Luego José, bañado en lágrimas, besó a todos sus hermanos. Sólo entonces se animaron ellos a hablarle.16Cuando llegó al palacio del faraón la noticia de que habían llegado los hermanos de José, tanto el faraón como sus funcionarios se alegraron.17Y el faraón le dijo a José: «Ordena a tus hermanos que carguen sus animales y vuelvan a Canaán.18Que me traigan a su padre y a sus familias. Yo les daré lo mejor de Egipto, y comerán de la abundancia de este país.19Diles, además, que se lleven carros de Egipto para traer a sus niños y mujeres, y también al padre de ustedes,20y que no se preocupen por las cosas que tengan que dejar, porque lo mejor de todo Egipto será para ustedes.»21Así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel. José les proporcionó los carros, conforme al mandato del faraón, y también les dio provisiones para el viaje.22Además, a cada uno le dio ropa nueva, y a Benjamín le entregó trescientas monedas de plata y cinco mudas de ropa.23A su padre le envió lo siguiente: diez asnos cargados con lo mejor de Egipto, diez asnas cargadas de cereales, y pan y otras provisiones para el viaje de su padre.24Al despedirse de sus hermanos, José les recomendó: «¡No se vayan peleando por el camino!»25Los hermanos de José salieron de Egipto y llegaron a Canaán, donde residía su padre Jacob.26Al llegar le dijeron: «¡José vive, José vive! ¡Es el gobernador de todo Egipto!» Jacob quedó atónito y no les creía,27pero ellos le repetían una y otra vez todo lo que José les había dicho. Y cuando su padre Jacob vio los carros que José había enviado para llevarlo, se reanimó.28Entonces exclamó: «¡Con esto me basta! ¡Mi hijo José aún vive! Iré a verlo antes de morirme.»
