1Adamo conobbe Eva, sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Caino[1], e disse: «Ho acquistato un uomo con l’aiuto del Signore».2Poi partorì ancora Abele, fratello di lui. Abele fu pastore di pecore; Caino lavoratore della terra.3Avvenne, dopo qualche tempo, che Caino fece un’offerta di frutti della terra al Signore.4Abele offrì anch’egli dei primogeniti del suo gregge e del loro grasso. Il Signore guardò con favore Abele e la sua offerta,5ma non guardò con favore Caino e la sua offerta. Caino ne fu molto irritato, e il suo viso era abbattuto.6Il Signore disse a Caino: «Perché sei irritato? E perché hai il volto abbattuto?7Se agisci bene, non rialzerai il volto? Ma se agisci male, il peccato sta spiandoti alla porta, e i suoi desideri sono rivolti contro di te; ma tu dominalo!»8Un giorno Caino parlava con suo fratello Abele e, trovandosi nei campi, Caino si avventò contro Abele, suo fratello, e lo uccise.9Il Signore disse a Caino: «Dov’è Abele, tuo fratello?» Egli rispose: «Non lo so. Sono forse il guardiano di mio fratello?»10Il Signore disse: «Che hai fatto? La voce del sangue di tuo fratello grida a me dalla terra.11Ora tu sarai maledetto, scacciato lontano dalla terra che ha aperto la sua bocca per ricevere il sangue di tuo fratello dalla tua mano.12Quando coltiverai il suolo, esso non ti darà più i suoi prodotti, e tu sarai vagabondo e fuggiasco sulla terra».13Caino disse al Signore: «Il mio castigo è troppo grande perché io possa sopportarlo.14Tu oggi mi scacci da questo suolo e io sarò nascosto lontano dalla tua presenza, sarò vagabondo e fuggiasco per la terra, così chiunque mi troverà, mi ucciderà».15Ma il Signore gli disse: «Ebbene, chiunque ucciderà Caino, sarà punito sette volte più di lui». Il Signore mise un segno su Caino, perché nessuno, trovandolo, lo uccidesse.
Discendenti di Caino
16Caino si allontanò dalla presenza del Signore e si stabilì nel paese di Nod, a oriente di Eden.17Poi Caino conobbe sua moglie, che concepì e partorì Enoc. Quindi si mise a costruire una città, a cui diede il nome di Enoc, dal nome di suo figlio.18A Enoc nacque Irad; Irad generò Meuiael; Meuiael generò Metusael e Metusael generò Lamec.19Lamec prese due mogli: il nome dell’una era Ada e il nome dell’altra Zilla.20Ada partorì Iabal, che fu il padre di quelli che abitano sotto le tende presso le greggi.21Il nome di suo fratello era Iubal, che fu il padre di tutti quelli che suonano la cetra e il flauto.22Zilla a sua volta partorì Tubal-Cain, l’artefice d’ogni sorta di strumenti di bronzo e di ferro; e la sorella di Tubal-Cain fu Naama.23Lamec disse alle sue mogli: «Ada e Zilla, ascoltate la mia voce; mogli di Lamec, porgete orecchio al mio dire! Sì, io ho ucciso un uomo perché mi ha ferito, e un giovane perché mi ha contuso.24Se Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, Lamec lo sarà settantasette volte».
Genealogia di Adamo per la linea di Set, fino a Noè
25Adamo conobbe ancora sua moglie ed ella partorì un figlio che chiamò Set[2], «perché», ella disse, «Dio mi ha dato un altro figlio al posto di Abele, che Caino ha ucciso».26Anche a Set nacque un figlio, che chiamò Enos. Allora si cominciò a invocare il nome del Signore.

Da sagte sie: „Ich habe einen Mann erworben:[1] Jahwe.“[2]2Danach bekam sie seinen Bruder Abel.[3] Abel wurde ein Schafhirt,[4] Kain ein Landwirt.3Nach geraumer Zeit brachte Kain vom Ertrag seines Feldes Jahwe ein Opfer.4Auch Abel brachte ihm eine Opfergabe, das Beste von den erstgeborenen Lämmern seiner Herde. Jahwe sah freundlich auf Abel und sein Opfer.[5] (Eb 11,4; 1G 3,12)5Aber auf Kain und seine Opfergabe achtete er nicht. Da geriet Kain in heftigen Zorn und senkte finster sein Gesicht.6Jahwe fragte ihn:
„Warum bist du so zornig? / Was soll dein finsterer Blick?7Hast du Gutes im Sinn, / dann heb den Kopf hoch! / Wenn aber nicht, / dann liegt die Sünde schon vor der Tür / und sie hat Verlangen nach dir. / Aber du musst es sein, der über sie herrscht!“8Doch Kain sprach seinen Bruder an.[6] Und als sie auf dem Feld waren, fiel er über Abel her und schlug ihn tot.9Da sagte Jahwe zu Kain: „Wo ist Abel, dein Bruder?“ Der entgegnete: „Ich weiß es nicht. Bin ich etwa sein Aufpasser?“10„Was hast du da getan!“, sagte Gott. „Hörst du nicht das Blut deines Bruders aus dem Ackerboden zu mir schreien?11Verflucht sollst du sein, verbannt vom Ackerboden! Denn du hast ihn mit dem Blut deines Bruders getränkt.12Wenn du ihn künftig bebaust, wird er dir keinen Ertrag mehr bringen. Als ruheloser Flüchtling wirst du auf der Erde umherirren.“13Da sagte Kain zu Jahwe: „Diese Strafe ist zu schwer für mich. Ich werde sie nicht ertragen können.14Du vertreibst mich vom fruchtbaren Land, und auch vor dir muss ich mich verstecken. Als ruheloser Flüchtling werde ich umherirren, und jeder, der mich findet,[7] kann mich erschlagen.“15„Nein“, erwiderte Jahwe, „ich ordne an: Wer Kain erschlägt, wird siebenfach bestraft!“ Und er machte ein Zeichen an Kain, damit niemand es wagen würde, ihn zu erschlagen, wenn er ihm begegnete.16So verließ Kain die Nähe Jahwes und siedelte sich östlich von Eden an, im Land der Heimatlosigkeit, in Nod.17Als Kain mit seiner Frau schlief, wurde sie schwanger und gebar Henoch. Und als Kain dann eine Stadt gründete, benannte er sie nach seinem Sohn Henoch.18Dem Henoch wurde Irad geboren. Irad zeugte Mehujaël und der wiederum Metuschaël. Metuschaël wurde der Vater von Lamech.19Lamech aber nahm sich zwei Frauen: Eine hieß Ada, die andere Zilla.20Ada gebar ihm Jabal. Das wurde der erste aller Nomaden, die in Zelten bei ihren Herden wohnen.21Sein Bruder hieß Jubal. Er war der erste aller späteren Zither- und Flötenspieler.22Auch Zilla bekam einen Sohn, Tubal-Kain, den Schmied. Er war der Erste, der Kupfer und Eisen bearbeitete. Seine Schwester hieß Naama.23Lamech sagte zu seinen Frauen:
„Ada und Zilla, hört meine Rede! / Lamechs Frauen, lauscht meinem Spruch! / Ich habe den Mann erschlagen, der mich verwundet hat, / und den Jungen getötet, der mich berührte.24Wird Kain siebenfach gerächt, / dann Lamech siebenundsiebzigfach!“25Nachdem Adam wieder mit seiner Frau geschlafen hatte, gebar sie ihm einen Sohn und nannte ihn Set, Setzling. „Gott hat mir wieder einen Sprössling geschenkt“, sagte sie, „anstelle von Abel, weil Kain ihn erschlug.“26Auch Set wurde ein Sohn geboren. Enosch, sterblicher Mensch, nannte er ihn. Damals fing man an, den Namen Jahwes anzurufen.
1Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten[1] a man with the help of the LORD.”2And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground.3In the course of time Cain brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground, (Le 2,12; Nu 18,12)4and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, (Eso 13,12; Nu 18,17; Prov 3,9; Eb 11,4)5but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. (Prov 21,27)6The LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?7If you do well, will you not be accepted?[2] And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for[3] you, and you must rule over it.” (Gen 3,16; Ec 8,12; Ec 8,13; Is 3,10; Is 3,11; Ro 2,6)8Cain spoke to Abel his brother.[4] And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him. (Sal 79,12; Ez 9,4; Ez 9,6; Ap 14,9; Ap 14,11)16Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod,[6] east of Eden.17Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.18To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.19And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.20Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.21His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.22Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.23Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me.24If Cain’s revenge is sevenfold, then Lamech’s is seventy-sevenfold.” (Gen 4,15)25And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed[7] for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.”26To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD. (Gen 5,6; 1Cr 1,1; Sal 116,17; So 3,9; Zac 13,9; Lu 3,38)

Pero si haces lo malo, el pecado te acecha, como una fiera lista para atraparte. No obstante, tú puedes dominarlo.»8Caín habló con su hermano Abel. Mientras estaban en el campo, Caín atacó a su hermano y lo mató.9El Señor le preguntó a Caín: —¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel? —No lo sé —respondió—. ¿Acaso soy yo el que debe cuidar a mi hermano?10—¡Qué has hecho! —exclamó el Señor—. Desde la tierra, la sangre de tu hermano reclama justicia.11Por eso, ahora quedarás bajo la maldición de la tierra, la cual ha abierto sus fauces para recibir la sangre de tu hermano, que tú has derramado.12Cuando cultives la tierra, no te dará sus frutos, y en el mundo serás un fugitivo errante.13—Este castigo es más de lo que puedo soportar —le dijo Caín al Señor—.14Hoy me condenas al destierro, y nunca más podré estar en tu presencia. Andaré por el mundo errante como un fugitivo, y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará.15—No será así[2] —replicó el Señor—. El que mate a Caín, será castigado siete veces. Entonces el Señor le puso una marca a Caín, para que no fuera a matarlo quien lo hallara.16Así Caín se alejó de la presencia del Señor y se fue a vivir a la región llamada Nod,[3] al este del Edén.17Caín se unió a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Enoc. Caín había estado construyendo una ciudad, a la que le puso el nombre de su hijo Enoc.18Luego Enoc tuvo un hijo llamado Irad, que fue el padre de Mejuyael. Éste, a su vez, fue el padre de Metusael, y Metusael fue el padre de Lamec.19Lamec tuvo dos mujeres. Una de ellas se llamaba Ada, y la otra Zila.20Ada dio a luz a Jabal, quien a su vez fue el antepasado de los que viven en tiendas de campaña y crían ganado.21Jabal tuvo un hermano llamado Jubal, quien fue el antepasado de los que tocan el arpa y la flauta.22Por su parte, Zila dio a luz a Tubal Caín, que fue herrero y forjador de toda clase de herramientas de bronce y de hierro. Tubal Caín tuvo una hermana que se llamaba Noamá.23Lamec dijo a sus mujeres Ada y Zila: «¡Escuchen bien, mujeres de Lamec! ¡Escuchen mis palabras! Maté a un hombre por haberme herido, y a un muchacho por golpearme.24Si Caín será vengado siete veces, setenta y siete veces será vengado Lamec.»25Adán volvió a unirse a su mujer, y ella tuvo un hijo al que llamó Set,[4] porque dijo: «Dios me ha concedido otro hijo en lugar de Abel, al que mató Caín.»26También Set tuvo un hijo, a quien llamó Enós. Desde entonces se comenzó a invocar el nombre del Señor.
