1Giuseppe fu portato in Egitto; e Potifar, ufficiale del faraone, capitano delle guardie, un Egiziano, lo comprò da quegli Ismaeliti che ce l’avevano condotto.2Il Signore era con Giuseppe: a lui riusciva bene ogni cosa e stava in casa del suo padrone egiziano.3Il suo padrone vide che il Signore era con lui e che il Signore gli faceva prosperare nelle mani tutto ciò che intraprendeva.4Giuseppe trovò grazia agli occhi di lui e si occupava del servizio personale di Potifar, il quale lo fece maggiordomo della sua casa e gli affidò l’amministrazione di tutto quello che possedeva.5Dal momento che lo ebbe fatto maggiordomo della sua casa e gli ebbe affidato tutto quello che possedeva, il Signore benedisse la casa dell’Egiziano per amore di Giuseppe; la benedizione del Signore si posò su tutto ciò che egli possedeva, in casa e in campagna.6Potifar lasciò tutto quello che aveva nelle mani di Giuseppe; non si occupava più di nulla, tranne del cibo che mangiava. Giuseppe era avvenente e di bell’aspetto.
Giuseppe in prigione
7Dopo queste cose, la moglie del padrone di Giuseppe gli mise gli occhi addosso e gli disse: «Unisciti a me!»8Ma egli rifiutò e disse alla moglie del suo padrone: «Ecco, il mio padrone non mi chiede conto di quanto è nella casa e mi ha affidato tutto quello che ha.9In questa casa egli stesso non è più grande di me e nulla mi ha vietato, se non te, perché sei sua moglie. Come dunque potrei fare questo gran male e peccare contro Dio?»10Benché lei gliene parlasse ogni giorno, Giuseppe non acconsentì a unirsi né a stare con lei.11Un giorno egli entrò in casa per fare il suo lavoro; lì non c’era nessuno della gente di casa;12allora lei lo afferrò per la veste e gli disse: «Unisciti a me!» Ma egli le lasciò in mano la veste e fuggì.13Quando lei vide che egli le aveva lasciato la veste in mano e che era fuggito,14chiamò la gente di casa sua e disse: «Vedete, ci ha portato un Ebreo perché questi si prendesse gioco di noi; egli è venuto da me per unirsi a me, ma io ho gridato a gran voce.15E com’egli ha udito che io alzavo la voce e gridavo, mi ha lasciato qui la sua veste ed è fuggito».16E si tenne accanto la veste di lui finché il suo padrone non tornò a casa.17Allora gli parlò in questa maniera: «Quel servo ebreo che hai condotto in casa è venuto da me per prendersi gioco di me.18Ma appena io ho alzato la voce e ho gridato, egli mi ha lasciato qui la sua veste ed è fuggito».19Quando il padrone di Giuseppe udì le parole di sua moglie che gli diceva: «Il tuo servo mi ha fatto questo!» si accese d’ira.20Il padrone di Giuseppe lo prese e lo mise nella prigione, nel luogo dove si tenevano chiusi i carcerati del re. Egli era dunque là in quella prigione.21E il Signore fu con Giuseppe, gli mostrò il suo favore e gli fece trovare grazia agli occhi del governatore della prigione.22Così il governatore della prigione affidò alla sorveglianza di Giuseppe tutti i detenuti che erano nel carcere; e nulla si faceva senza di lui.23Il governatore della prigione non rivedeva niente di quello che era affidato a lui, perché il Signore era con lui, e il Signore faceva prosperare tutto quello che egli intraprendeva.
1Josef war von den Ismaëliten nach Ägypten gebracht worden. Sie verkauften ihn an einen ägyptischen Hofbeamten des Pharao namens Potifar. Er war der Befehlshaber der Leibwache.2Doch Jahwe stand Josef bei, sodass ihm alles gelang, was er tat. Er durfte sogar im Haus seines ägyptischen Herrn bleiben.3Und weil der Ägypter sah, dass Jahwe Josef beistand und ihm alles gelingen ließ,4schenkte er ihm seine Gunst und machte ihn zu seinem persönlichen Diener. Er übergab ihm die Aufsicht über sein Haus und vertraute ihm die Verwaltung seines ganzen Besitzes an.5Und von diesem Zeitpunkt an segnete Jahwe das Haus des Ägypters. Wegen Josef ruhte der Segen Jahwes auf allem, was er besaß, im Haus und auf dem Feld.6So überließ Potifar Josef alles, was er hatte, und kümmerte sich um nichts mehr, außer um sein eigenes Essen.
Doch Josef war ein außergewöhnlich schöner Mann.7So kam es, dass die Frau seines Herrn ein Auge auf ihn warf. „Schlaf mit mir!“, sagte sie zu ihm.8Doch er weigerte sich und erwiderte: „Sieh doch, mein Herr verlässt sich auf mich. Er kümmert sich um nichts mehr, seit ich in seinem Haus bin, und hat mir alles anvertraut, was ihm gehört.9In diesem Haus gilt er nicht mehr als ich. Nichts hat er mir vorenthalten als nur dich, seine Frau. Wie könnte ich da ein so großes Unrecht begehen! Ich würde mich an Gott versündigen!“10Obwohl sie Tag für Tag auf Josef einredete, mit ihr zu schlafen und ihr zu Willen zu sein, hörte er nicht auf sie.11Einmal hatte Josef im Haus zu tun, und niemand von der Dienerschaft war dort.12Da fasste sie ihn am Gewand. „Komm mit mir ins Bett!“, drängte sie. Doch er riss sich los und flüchtete hinaus. Das Gewand blieb in ihrer Hand zurück.13Als ihr bewusst wurde, dass er fort war, aber sein Gewand in ihrer Hand zurückgelassen hatte,14rief sie die Dienerschaft herbei und sagte: „Seht euch das an! Er hat uns diesen Hebräer ins Haus gebracht, der nun seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibt! Er ist zu mir gekommen und wollte mit mir schlafen. Da habe ich laut geschrien.15Als er meinen Aufschrei hörte, ließ er sein Gewand bei mir liegen und rannte hinaus.“16Sie ließ Josefs Gewand neben sich liegen, bis sein Herr nach Hause kam.17Ihm erzählte sie dieselbe Geschichte: „Der hebräische Sklave, den du uns ins Haus gebracht hast, ist zu mir gekommen, um seinen Mutwillen mit mir zu treiben.18Als ich zu schreien anfing, ließ er sein Gewand neben mir liegen und rannte hinaus.“19Als Potifar hörte, was sie seinem Sklaven vorwarf, packte ihn der Zorn.20Er ließ Josef ergreifen und in das Gefängnis bringen, in dem die Gefangenen des Königs verwahrt wurden.
Josef im Gefängnis
21Aber Jahwe in seiner Treue stand Josef bei. Er sorgte dafür, dass der Gefängnisverwalter ihm sein Wohlwollen schenkte.22Er übertrug Josef die Aufsicht über alle Gefangenen und alles, was man dort zu tun hatte.23Der Gefängnisverwalter vertraute ihm völlig und gab ihm freie Hand, denn Jahwe stand Josef bei und ließ ihm alles gelingen, was er unternahm.
1Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. (Gen 19,19; Gen 33,10; Gen 39,8; Gen 39,21)5From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in house and field. (Gen 30,27)6So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. (Gen 29,17; 1Sam 16,12)7And after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.”8But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. (Gen 39,4)9He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” (2Sam 12,13; Sal 51,4)10And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her. (Prov 1,10)11But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house,12she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. (Prov 7,13; Prov 7,18)13And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house,14she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.15And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.”16Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home,17and she told him the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me.18But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.”19As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled.20And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. (Gen 40,3; Gen 40,5; Gen 40,15; Gen 41,14; Sal 105,18)21But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. (Gen 39,2; Eso 3,21; Eso 11,3; Eso 12,36; At 7,9; At 7,10)22And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. (Gen 40,4)23The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the LORD was with him. And whatever he did, the LORD made it succeed. (Gen 39,2)
1Cuando José fue llevado a Egipto, los ismaelitas que lo habían trasladado allá lo vendieron a Potifar, un egipcio que era funcionario del faraón y capitán de su guardia.2Ahora bien, el Señor estaba con José y las cosas le salían muy bien. Mientras José vivía en la casa de su patrón egipcio,3éste se dio cuenta de que el Señor estaba con José y lo hacía prosperar en todo.4José se ganó la confianza de Potifar, y éste lo nombró mayordomo de toda su casa y le confió la administración de todos sus bienes.5Por causa de José, el Señor bendijo la casa del egipcio Potifar a partir del momento en que puso a José a cargo de su casa y de todos sus bienes. La bendición del Señor se extendió sobre todo lo que tenía el egipcio, tanto en la casa como en el campo.6Por esto Potifar dejó todo a cargo de José, y tan sólo se preocupaba por lo que tenía que comer. José tenía muy buen físico y era muy atractivo.7Después de algún tiempo, la esposa de su patrón empezó a echarle el ojo y le propuso: —Acuéstate conmigo.8Pero José no quiso saber nada, sino que le contestó: —Mire, señora: mi patrón ya no tiene que preocuparse de nada en la casa, porque todo me lo ha confiado a mí.9En esta casa no hay nadie más importante que yo. Mi patrón no me ha negado nada, excepto meterme con usted, que es su esposa. ¿Cómo podría yo cometer tal maldad y pecar así contra Dios?10Y por más que ella lo acosaba día tras día para que se acostara con ella y le hiciera compañía, José se mantuvo firme en su rechazo.11Un día, en un momento en que todo el personal de servicio se encontraba ausente, José entró en la casa para cumplir con sus responsabilidades.12Entonces la mujer de Potifar lo agarró del manto y le rogó: «¡Acuéstate conmigo!» Pero José, dejando el manto en manos de ella, salió corriendo de la casa.13Al ver ella que él había dejado el manto en sus manos y había salido corriendo,14llamó a los siervos de la casa y les dijo: «¡Miren!, el hebreo que nos trajo mi esposo sólo ha venido a burlarse de nosotros. Entró a la casa con la intención de acostarse conmigo, pero yo grité con todas mis fuerzas.15En cuanto me oyó gritar, salió corriendo y dejó su manto a mi lado.»16La mujer guardó el manto de José hasta que su marido volvió a su casa.17Entonces le contó la misma historia: «El esclavo hebreo que nos trajiste quiso aprovecharse de mí.18Pero en cuanto grité con todas mis fuerzas, salió corriendo y dejó su manto a mi lado.»19Cuando el patrón de José escuchó de labios de su mujer cómo la había tratado el esclavo, se enfureció20y mandó que echaran a José en la cárcel donde estaban los presos del rey. Pero aun en la cárcel21el Señor estaba con él y no dejó de mostrarle su amor. Hizo que se ganara la confianza del guardia de la cárcel,22el cual puso a José a cargo de todos los prisioneros y de todo lo que allí se hacía.23Como el Señor estaba con José y hacía prosperar todo lo que él hacía, el guardia de la cárcel no se preocupaba de nada de lo que dejaba en sus manos.
