Io ho fatto questo nell’integrità del mio cuore e con mani innocenti».6Dio gli disse nel sogno: «Anch’io so che tu hai fatto questo nell’integrità del tuo cuore: ti ho quindi preservato dal peccare contro di me; perciò non ti ho permesso di toccarla.7Ora, restituisci la moglie a quest’uomo, perché è profeta; egli pregherà per te e tu vivrai. Ma, se non la restituisci, sappi che sicuramente morirai, tu e tutti i tuoi».8Abimelec si alzò di mattina presto, chiamò tutti i suoi servi e raccontò in loro presenza tutte queste cose. E quegli uomini furono presi da grande paura.9Poi Abimelec chiamò Abraamo e gli disse: «Che ci hai fatto? In che cosa ti ho offeso, ché tu abbia attirato su di me e sul mio regno questo grande peccato? Tu mi hai fatto cose che non si debbono fare».10Di nuovo Abimelec disse ad Abraamo: «A che miravi facendo questo?»11Abraamo rispose: «L’ho fatto perché dicevo tra me: “Certo, in questo luogo non c’è timor di Dio e mi uccideranno a causa di mia moglie”.12Inoltre, è veramente mia sorella, figlia di mio padre, ma non figlia di mia madre, ed è diventata mia moglie.13Or quando Dio mi fece emigrare lontano dalla casa di mio padre, io le dissi: “Questo è il favore che tu mi farai; dovunque giungeremo dirai di me: ‘È mio fratello’”».14Abimelec prese delle pecore, dei buoi, dei servi e delle serve; li diede ad Abraamo e gli restituì Sara, sua moglie.15Abimelec disse: «Ecco, il mio paese ti sta davanti; va’ a stabilirti dove ti piacerà».16E a Sara disse: «Ecco, io ho dato a tuo fratello mille pezzi d’argento; questo sarà per te come un velo agli occhi davanti a tutti quelli che sono con te, e sarai riabilitata di fronte a tutti».17Abraamo pregò Dio e Dio guarì Abimelec, la moglie e le serve di lui, ed esse poterono partorire.18Infatti, il Signore aveva reso sterile l’intera casa di Abimelec a causa di Sara, moglie di Abraamo.

Er schlug sein Lager zwischen Kadesch und Schur[1] auf und lebte dann eine Zeitlang in Gerar.[2] (Gen 14,7; Gen 16,7; Gen 18,1)2Dort gab er seine Frau Sara wieder als seine Schwester aus. Da ließ Abimelech,[3] der König von Gerar, Sara zu sich holen.3Aber in der Nacht kam Gott im Traum zu Abimelech und sagte: „Du musst sterben, weil du dir diese Frau genommen hast, denn sie ist verheiratet und gehört einem anderen.“4Abimelech hatte sie noch nicht berührt und erwiderte: „Herr, willst du denn unschuldige Leute umbringen?5Er hat doch selbst zu mir gesagt: 'Sie ist meine Schwester.' Und auch sie hat das bestätigt und mir gesagt: 'Er ist mein Bruder.' Ich habe das mit reinem Gewissen und unschuldigen Händen getan.“6„Das weiß ich auch“, sagte Gott im Traum zu ihm. „Ja, du hast das mit reinem Gewissen getan. Deshalb habe ich dich auch davon abgehalten, vor mir schuldig zu werden, und dir nicht gestattet, sie zu berühren.7Doch jetzt gib die Frau dem Mann zurück! Er ist nämlich ein Prophet und wird für dich beten, damit du am Leben bleibst. Wenn du sie aber behältst, wirst du sterben, du und alles, was zu dir gehört.“8Am nächsten Morgen stand Abimelech früh auf, rief seine Leute zusammen und berichtete ihnen, was geschehen war. Da bekamen es alle mit der Angst zu tun.9Abimelech ließ Abraham rufen und sagte zu ihm: „Was hast du uns da angetan? Womit habe ich mich an dir versündigt, dass du mich und mein Volk in diese schwere Schuld gestürzt hast? Du hast mir etwas angetan, was man einfach nicht tun darf!10Was hast du dir dabei nur gedacht?“11Abraham entgegnete: „Ich dachte, an diesem Ort hat man bestimmt keine Ehrfurcht vor Gott, und man wird mich umbringen wegen meiner Frau.12Außerdem ist sie wirklich meine Schwester. Sie ist die Tochter meines Vaters, hat aber eine andere Mutter. Darum konnte ich sie heiraten.13Als Gott mich dann aus meiner Heimat in die Fremde schickte, sagte ich zu ihr: 'Tu mir den Gefallen und gib mich überall, wohin wir kommen, als deinen Bruder aus!'“14Da machte Abimelech Abraham ein Geschenk und ließ Kleinvieh, Rinder, Sklaven und Sklavinnen zu ihm bringen. Auch seine Frau Sara gab er ihm zurück.15Dabei sagte er: „Mein ganzes Land steht dir offen. Du kannst dich niederlassen, wo es dir gefällt.“16Und an Sara gewandt, sagte er: „Ich gebe deinem Bruder 1000 ‹Schekel› Silber.[4] Damit sei vor allen Leuten bestätigt, dass deine Ehre nicht angetastet worden ist und niemand dir etwas nachsagen kann.“17Nun betete Abraham zu Gott. Daraufhin nahm Gott die Strafe von Abimelech, seiner Frau und allen seinen Sklavinnen weg, dass sie wieder Kinder bekommen konnten.18Denn wegen Abrahams Frau Sara hatte Jahwe im ganzen Haushalt Abimelechs jeden Mutterleib verschlossen.
1From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. So he said, “Lord, will you kill an innocent people? (Gen 18,23; 1Cr 21,17)5Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.”6Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her. (Gen 39,9; Sal 51,4)7Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.” (Nu 16,32; Nu 16,33; 1Sam 7,5; Giob 42,8)8So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things. And the men were very much afraid.9Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”10And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you did this thing?”11Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, ‘There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ (Gen 12,12; Gen 26,7; Prov 16,6)12Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father though not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. (Gen 11,29)13And when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’” (Gen 12,1; Gen 12,13)14Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him. (Gen 12,16)15And Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you; dwell where it pleases you.” (Gen 13,9; Gen 34,10)16To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is a sign of your innocence in the eyes of all[1] who are with you, and before everyone you are vindicated.” (Gen 20,5; Gen 24,65)17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children. (Giac 5,16)18For the LORD had closed all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. (Gen 12,17)

Si no lo haces, ten por seguro que morirás junto con todos los tuyos.8En la madrugada del día siguiente, Abimélec se levantó y llamó a todos sus servidores para contarles en detalle lo que había ocurrido, y un gran temor se apoderó de ellos.9Entonces Abimélec llamó a Abraham y le reclamó: —¡Qué nos has hecho! ¿En qué te he ofendido, que has traído un pecado tan grande sobre mí y sobre mi reino? ¡Lo que me has hecho no tiene nombre!10¿Qué pretendías conseguir con todo esto? Al reclamo de Abimélec,11Abraham contestó: —Yo pensé que en este lugar no había temor de Dios, y que por causa de mi esposa me matarían.12Pero en realidad ella es mi hermana, porque es hija de mi padre aunque no de mi madre; y además es mi esposa.13Cuando Dios me mandó dejar la casa de mi padre y andar errante, yo le dije a mi esposa: “Te pido que me hagas este favor: Dondequiera que vayamos, di siempre que soy tu hermano.”14Abimélec tomó entonces ovejas y vacas, esclavos y esclavas, y se los regaló a Abraham. Al mismo tiempo, le devolvió a Sara, su esposa,15y le dijo: —Mira, ahí está todo mi territorio; quédate a vivir donde mejor te parezca.16A Sara le dijo: —Le he dado a tu hermano mil monedas de plata, que servirán de compensación por todo lo que te ha pasado; así quedarás vindicada ante todos los que están contigo.[2]17Entonces Abraham oró a Dios, y Dios sanó a Abimélec y permitió que su esposa y sus siervas volvieran a tener hijos,18porque a causa de lo ocurrido con Sara, la esposa de Abraham, el Señor había hecho que todas las mujeres en la casa de Abimélec quedaran estériles.
