1Ora, fratelli, vogliamo farvi conoscere la grazia che Dio ha concessa alle chiese di Macedonia,2perché nelle molte tribolazioni con cui sono state provate, la loro gioia incontenibile e la loro estrema povertà hanno sovrabbondato nelle ricchezze della loro generosità.3Infatti io ne rendo testimonianza; hanno dato volentieri secondo i loro mezzi, anzi, oltre i loro mezzi,4chiedendoci con molta insistenza il favore di partecipare alla sovvenzione destinata ai santi.5E non soltanto hanno contribuito come noi speravamo, ma prima hanno dato se stessi al Signore e poi a noi, per la volontà di Dio.6Così noi abbiamo esortato Tito a completare, anche tra voi, quest’opera di grazia, come l’ha iniziata.7Ma siccome abbondate in ogni cosa, in fede, in parola, in conoscenza, in ogni zelo e nell’amore che avete per noi, vedete di abbondare anche in quest’opera di grazia.8Non lo dico per darvi un ordine, ma per mettere alla prova, con l’esempio dell’altrui premura, anche la sincerità del vostro amore.9Infatti voi conoscete la grazia del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo il quale, essendo ricco, si è fatto povero per voi, affinché, mediante la sua povertà, voi poteste diventare ricchi.10Io do, a questo proposito, un consiglio utile a voi che, dall’anno scorso, avete cominciato per primi non solo ad agire ma anche ad avere il desiderio di fare:11fate ora in modo di portare a termine il vostro agire; come foste pronti nel volere, siate tali anche nel realizzarlo secondo le vostre possibilità.12La buona volontà, quando c’è, è gradita in ragione di quello che uno possiede e non di quello che non ha.13Infatti non si tratta di mettere voi nel bisogno per dare sollievo agli altri, ma di seguire un principio di uguaglianza;14nelle attuali circostanze la vostra abbondanza serve a supplire al loro bisogno, perché la loro abbondanza supplisca altresì al vostro bisogno, affinché ci sia uguaglianza, secondo quel che è scritto:15«Chi aveva raccolto molto non ne ebbe di troppo, e chi aveva raccolto poco non ne ebbe troppo poco»[1].16Ringraziato sia Dio, che ha messo in cuore a Tito lo stesso zelo per voi;17infatti Tito non solo ha accettato la nostra esortazione, ma mosso da zelo anche maggiore si è spontaneamente messo in cammino per venire da voi.18Insieme a lui abbiamo mandato il fratello il cui servizio nel vangelo è apprezzato in tutte le chiese;19non solo, ma egli è anche stato scelto dalle chiese come nostro compagno di viaggio in quest’opera di grazia, da noi amministrata per la gloria del Signore {stesso} e per dimostrare la prontezza dell’animo nostro.20Evitiamo così che qualcuno possa biasimarci per quest’abbondante colletta che noi amministriamo;21perché ci preoccupiamo di agire onestamente non solo davanti al Signore, ma anche di fronte agli uomini.22E con loro abbiamo mandato quel nostro fratello del quale spesso e in molte circostanze abbiamo sperimentato lo zelo; egli è ora più zelante che mai per la grande fiducia che ha in voi.23Quanto a Tito, egli è mio compagno e collaboratore in mezzo a voi; quanto ai nostri fratelli, essi sono gli inviati delle chiese e gloria di Cristo.24Date loro dunque, in presenza delle chiese, la prova del vostro amore e mostrate loro che abbiamo ragione di essere fieri di voi.
1Wir wollen euch nun berichten, Geschwister, was die Gnade Gottes in den Gemeinden Mazedoniens bewirkt hat.2Sie haben sich nicht nur in schwerer Bedrängnis bewährt, sondern ihre übergroße Freude und ihre tiefe Armut haben sich in den Reichtum ihrer Freigebigkeit verwandelt.3Ich bezeuge: Sie gaben, so viel sie konnten, und aus eigenem Antrieb noch darüber hinaus.4Sie haben uns inständig darum gebeten, sich an diesem Werk der Gnade beteiligen zu dürfen, dem Hilfsdienst für die Heiligen ‹in Jerusalem›.5Sie haben mehr getan, als wir erhofft hatten, denn sie gaben sich geradezu selbst – zuerst dem Herrn und dann auch uns, wie es Gottes Willen entspricht.6Deshalb haben wir Titus zugeredet, dieses Werk der Gnade, mit dem er schon früher bei euch angefangen hat, zu Ende zu führen.7Ihr seid ja in jeder Beziehung reich geworden: im Glauben, in der Redegabe und der Erkenntnis, in allem Fleiß und der gegenseitigen Liebe, die wir in euch geweckt haben. Deshalb solltet ihr euren Reichtum auch in diesem Gnadenwerk zeigen.8Ich sage das nicht als Befehl, sondern ich gebe euch Gelegenheit, durch den Eifer der anderen die Echtheit eurer Liebe zu prüfen.9Ihr kennt ja die Gnadentat unseres Herrn Jesus Christus: Er, der reich war, wurde bettelarm für euch, damit ihr durch seine Armut reich würdet.10Nach meiner Meinung kann es nur gut für euch sein, euch ‹an der Sammlung› zu beteiligen. Ihr wolltet es ja bereits im vorigen Jahr tun und habt auch schon damit angefangen.11Jetzt solltet ihr das Begonnene zum Abschluss bringen, damit die Ausführung nicht hinter dem guten Vorsatz zurückbleibt – natürlich nur nach dem, was ihr habt.12Denn wenn der gute Wille da ist, dann ist er willkommen mit dem, was einer hat, und nicht mit dem, was er nicht hat.13Es geht nicht darum, dass ihr Mangel leiden sollt, damit andere Erleichterung haben, sondern es geht um einen Ausgleich:14Jetzt soll euer Überfluss ihrem Mangel abhelfen, damit auch ihr Überfluss einmal eurem Mangel dient. So soll es zu einem Ausgleich kommen,15wie geschrieben steht: „Wer viel sammelte, hatte keinen Überfluss, und wer wenig sammelte, hatte keinen Mangel.“ (Eso 16,18)16Gott sei Dank, dass er Titus den gleichen Eifer für euch ins Herz gegeben hat,17denn Titus war mit meinem Vorschlag einverstanden, ja noch mehr: Er hatte schon von sich aus beschlossen, zu euch zu reisen.18Und wir haben den Bruder mit ihm geschickt, der wegen seiner Verkündigung des Evangeliums in allen Gemeinden sehr gelobt wird.19Aber nicht nur das: Die Gemeinden haben ihn auch zu unserem Reisegefährten bestimmt, wenn wir diese Liebesgabe zur Ehre des Herrn und als Zeichen unseres guten Willens überbringen.20Denn wir wollen vermeiden, dass man uns verdächtigt, wenn wir diese große Spende allein verwalten.21Es liegt uns sehr daran, dass alles einwandfrei abläuft, nicht nur vor Gott, sondern auch vor den Menschen.22Zusätzlich schicken wir unseren Bruder mit, der seine Tüchtigkeit bei sehr vielen Gelegenheiten bewiesen hat und sich in diesem Fall noch eifriger zeigt, weil er großes Vertrauen zu euch hat.23Wenn ich für Titus eintrete, so tue ich das, weil er mein Gefährte und für euch mein Mitarbeiter ist. Und was unsere anderen Brüder betrifft: Sie sind Abgesandte der Gemeinden, Menschen, in denen man die Herrlichkeit des Christus erkennt.24Zeigt ihnen, dass eure Liebe echt ist, und beweist so den anderen Gemeinden, dass wir euch zu Recht gelobt haben.
1We want you to know, brothers,[1] about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, (2Co 8,5)2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. (Mar 12,44)3For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, (1Co 16,2; 2Co 8,11)4begging us earnestly for the favor[2] of taking part in the relief of the saints— (At 24,17; Ro 15,25; Ro 15,31; 2Co 9,2)5and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. (2Co 8,1)6Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. (2Co 8,4; 2Co 8,17; 2Co 8,19; 2Co 12,18)7But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you[3]—see that you excel in this act of grace also. (1Co 1,5; 2Co 9,8)8I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. (1Co 7,6)9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. (Mat 20,28; 2Co 6,10; Fili 2,6)10And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. (De 15,7; Prov 19,17; Prov 28,27; 1Co 7,25; 2Co 9,2; 1Ti 6,18; Eb 13,16)11So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. (Mar 12,43; Lu 21,3; 2Co 9,7)13For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness14your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. (At 4,34; 2Co 9,12)15As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.” (Eso 16,18)
Commendation of Titus
16But thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same earnest care I have for you. (2Co 2,14; Ap 17,17)17For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going[4] to you of his own accord. (2Co 8,6)18With him we are sending[5] the brother who is famous among all the churches for his preaching of the gospel. (1Co 7,17; 2Co 12,18)19And not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us as we carry out this act of grace that is being ministered by us, for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our good will. (1Co 16,3; 2Co 4,15; 2Co 8,6)20We take this course so that no one should blame us about this generous gift that is being administered by us,21for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man. (Ro 12,17; Ro 14,18; Fili 4,8; 1P 2,12)22And with them we are sending our brother whom we have often tested and found earnest in many matters, but who is now more earnest than ever because of his great confidence in you.23As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for your benefit. And as for our brothers, they are messengers[6] of the churches, the glory of Christ. (File 1,17)24So give proof before the churches of your love and of our boasting about you to these men. 1Ahora, hermanos, queremos que se enteren de la gracia que Dios ha dado a las iglesias de Macedonia.2En medio de las pruebas más difíciles, su desbordante alegría y su extrema pobreza abundaron en rica generosidad.3Soy testigo de que dieron espontáneamente tanto como podían, y aún más de lo que podían,4rogándonos con insistencia que les concediéramos el privilegio de tomar parte en esta ayuda para los santos.5Incluso hicieron más de lo que esperábamos, ya que se entregaron a sí mismos, primeramente al Señor y después a nosotros, conforme a la voluntad de Dios.6De modo que rogamos a Tito que llevara a feliz término esta obra de gracia entre ustedes, puesto que ya la había comenzado.7Pero ustedes, así como sobresalen en todo —en fe, en palabras, en conocimiento, en dedicación y en su amor hacia nosotros[1]—, procuren también sobresalir en esta gracia de dar.8No es que esté dándoles órdenes, sino que quiero probar la sinceridad de su amor en comparación con la dedicación de los demás.9Ya conocen la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que aunque era rico, por causa de ustedes se hizo pobre, para que mediante su pobreza ustedes llegaran a ser ricos.10Aquí va mi consejo sobre lo que les conviene en este asunto: El año pasado ustedes fueron los primeros no sólo en dar sino también en querer hacerlo.11Lleven ahora a feliz término la obra, para que, según sus posibilidades, cumplan con lo que de buena gana propusieron.12Porque si uno lo hace de buena voluntad, lo que da es bien recibido según lo que tiene, y no según lo que no tiene.13No se trata de que otros encuentren alivio mientras que ustedes sufren escasez; es más bien cuestión de igualdad.14En las circunstancias actuales la abundancia de ustedes suplirá lo que ellos necesitan, para que a su vez la abundancia de ellos supla lo que ustedes necesitan. Así habrá igualdad,15como está escrito: «Ni al que recogió mucho le sobraba, ni al que recogió poco le faltaba.»[2]
Tito enviado a Corinto
16Gracias a Dios que puso en el corazón de Tito la misma preocupación que yo tengo por ustedes.17De hecho, cuando accedió a nuestra petición de ir a verlos, lo hizo con mucho entusiasmo y por su propia voluntad.18Junto con él les enviamos al hermano que se ha ganado el reconocimiento de todas las iglesias por los servicios prestados al evangelio.19Además, las iglesias lo escogieron para que nos acompañe cuando llevemos la ofrenda, la cual administramos para honrar al Señor y demostrar nuestro ardiente deseo de servir.20Queremos evitar cualquier crítica sobre la forma en que administramos este generoso donativo;21porque procuramos hacer lo correcto, no sólo delante del Señor sino también delante de los demás.22Con ellos les enviamos a nuestro hermano que nos ha demostrado con frecuencia y de muchas maneras que es diligente, y ahora lo es aún más por la gran confianza que tiene en ustedes.23En cuanto a Tito, es mi compañero y colaborador entre ustedes; y en cuanto a los otros hermanos, son enviados de las iglesias, son una honra para Cristo.24Por tanto, den a estos hombres una prueba de su amor y muéstrenles por qué nos sentimos orgullosos de ustedes, para testimonio ante las iglesias.
