1 Fratelli, il desiderio del mio cuore e la mia preghiera a Dio per loro è che siano salvati. 2 Io rendo loro testimonianza infatti che hanno zelo per Dio, ma zelo senza conoscenza. 3 Perché, ignorando la giustizia di Dio e cercando di stabilire la propria {giustizia}, non si sono sottomessi alla giustizia di Dio; 4 poiché Cristo è il termine della legge, per la giustificazione di tutti coloro che credono. 5 Infatti Mosè descrive così la giustizia che viene dalla legge: «L’uomo che farà quelle cose vivrà per esse»^[1]. 6 Invece la giustizia che viene dalla fede dice così: «Non dire in cuor tuo: “Chi salirà in cielo?” (questo è farne scendere Cristo), né: 7 “Chi scenderà nell’abisso?” (questo è far risalire Cristo dai morti)». 8 Che cosa dice invece? «La parola è vicino a te, nella tua bocca e nel tuo cuore»^[2]. Questa è la parola della fede che noi annunciamo; 9 perché, se con la bocca avrai confessato Gesù come Signore e avrai creduto con il cuore che Dio lo ha risuscitato dai morti, sarai salvato; 10 infatti con il cuore si crede per ottenere la giustizia e con la bocca si fa confessione per essere salvati. 11 Difatti la Scrittura dice: «Chiunque crede in lui, non sarà deluso»^[3]. 12 Poiché non c’è distinzione tra Giudeo e Greco, essendo egli lo stesso Signore di tutti, ricco verso tutti quelli che lo invocano. 13 Infatti chiunque avrà invocato il nome del Signore sarà salvato^[4]. 14 Ora, come invocheranno colui nel quale non hanno creduto? E come crederanno in colui del quale non hanno sentito parlare? E come potranno sentirne parlare, se non c’è chi lo annunci? 15 E come annunceranno se non sono mandati? Com’è scritto: «Quanto sono belli i piedi di quelli che annunciano buone notizie!»^[5] 16 Ma non tutti hanno ubbidito alla buona notizia; Isaia infatti dice: «Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra predicazione?»^[6] 17 Così la fede viene da ciò che si ascolta, e ciò che si ascolta viene dalla parola di Cristo. 18 Ma io dico: forse non hanno udito? Anzi, la loro voce è andata per tutta la terra e le loro parole fino agli estremi confini del mondo^[7]. 19 Allora dico: forse Israele non ha compreso? Mosè per primo dice: «Io vi renderò gelosi con una nazione che non è nazione; provocherò il vostro sdegno con una nazione senza intelligenza»^[8]. 20 Isaia poi osa affermare: «Sono stato trovato da quelli che non mi cercavano; mi sono manifestato a quelli che non chiedevano di me». 21 Ma riguardo a Israele afferma: «Tutto il giorno ho teso le mani verso un popolo disubbidiente e contestatore»^[9].

1 Brüder und Schwestern, meines Herzens Wunsch ist und ich flehe auch zu Gott für sie, dass sie gerettet werden. 2 Denn ich bezeuge ihnen, dass sie Eifer für Gott haben, aber ohne Einsicht. 3 Denn sie erkennen die Gerechtigkeit nicht, die vor Gott gilt, und suchen, ihre eigene Gerechtigkeit aufzurichten, und sind so der Gerechtigkeit Gottes nicht untertan. 5 Mose schreibt von der Gerechtigkeit, die aus dem Gesetz kommt: »Der Mensch, der dies tut, wird dadurch leben.« (Le 18,5) 6 Aber die Gerechtigkeit aus dem Glauben spricht so: »Sprich nicht in deinem Herzen: Wer will hinauf gen Himmel fahren?« – nämlich um Christus herabzuholen; (De 30,11) 7 oder: »Wer will hinab in die Tiefe fahren?« – nämlich um Christus von den Toten heraufzuholen. 8 Aber was sagt sie? »Das Wort ist dir nahe, in deinem Munde und in deinem Herzen.« Dies ist das Wort vom Glauben, das wir predigen. 9 Denn wenn du mit deinem Munde bekennst, dass Jesus der Herr ist, und glaubst in deinem Herzen, dass ihn Gott von den Toten auferweckt hat, so wirst du gerettet. (Mat 10,32; 2Co 4,5; Fili 2,11) 10 Denn wer mit dem Herzen glaubt, wird gerecht; und wer mit dem Munde bekennt, wird selig. 11 Denn die Schrift spricht: »Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht zuschanden werden.« 12 Es ist hier kein Unterschied zwischen Juden und Griechen; es ist über alle derselbe Herr, reich für alle, die ihn anrufen. (At 10,34; At 15,9; Ga 3,28) 13 Denn »wer den Namen des Herrn anruft, wird selig werden« (Gioe 3,5) 14 Wie sollen sie aber den anrufen, an den sie nicht glauben? Wie sollen sie aber an den glauben, von dem sie nichts gehört haben? Wie sollen sie aber hören ohne Prediger? 15 Wie sollen sie aber predigen, wenn sie nicht gesandt werden? Wie denn geschrieben steht: »Wie lieblich sind die Füße der Freudenboten, die das Gute verkündigen!«

Warum ist Israel nicht zum Glauben gekommen?

16 Aber nicht alle waren dem Evangelium gehorsam. Denn Jesaja spricht: »Herr, wer glaubte unserm Predigen?« 17 So kommt der Glaube aus der Predigt^[2], das Predigen aber durch das Wort Christi. (Giov 17,20) 18 Ich frage aber: Haben sie es nicht gehört? Doch, es ist ja »in alle Lande ausgegangen ihr Schall und ihr Wort bis an die Enden der Welt« 19 Ich frage aber: Hat es Israel nicht verstanden? Als Erster spricht Mose: »Ich will euch eifersüchtig machen auf ein Nicht-Volk; über ein unverständiges Volk will ich euch zornig machen.« (De 32,21) 20 Jesaja aber wagt zu sagen: »Ich ließ mich finden von denen, die mich nicht suchten, ich offenbarte mich denen, die nicht nach mir fragten.« (Ro 9,30) 21 Zu Israel aber spricht er: »Den ganzen Tag habe ich meine Hände ausgestreckt nach einem Volk, das sich nichts sagen lässt und widerspricht.«

1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? Así está escrito: «¡Qué hermoso es recibir al mensajero que trae^[6] buenas nuevas!» 16 Sin embargo, no todos los israelitas aceptaron las buenas nuevas. Isaías dice: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído a nuestro mensaje?»^[7] 17 Así que la fe viene como resultado de oír el mensaje, y el mensaje que se oye es la palabra de Cristo.^[8] 18 Pero pregunto: ¿Acaso no oyeron? ¡Claro que sí! «Por toda la tierra se difundió su voz, ¡sus palabras llegan hasta los confines del mundo!»^[9] 19 Pero insisto: ¿Acaso no entendió Israel?
