I Filistei si preparano alla guerra; Saul consulta l’evocatrice di spiriti a En-Dor

1 In quei giorni i Filistei riunirono i loro eserciti per far guerra a Israele. Achis disse a Davide: «Sia chiaro che verrai con me alla guerra, tu e la tua gente». 2 Davide rispose ad Achis: «Tu vedrai quello che il tuo servo farà». Achis disse a Davide: «Io ti nominerò mia guardia del corpo per sempre». 3 Ora Samuele era morto; tutto Israele ne aveva fatto cordoglio, e lo avevano sepolto a Rama, nella sua città. Saul aveva scacciato dal paese gli evocatori di spiriti e gli indovini. 4 I Filistei si riunirono e vennero ad accamparsi a Sunem. Anche Saul riunì tutto Israele e si accamparono a Ghilboa. 5 Quando Saul vide l’accampamento dei Filistei ebbe paura e il cuore gli tremò forte. 6 Saul consultò il Signore, ma il Signore non gli rispose né tramite sogni, né mediante l’urim^[1], né per mezzo dei profeti. 7 Allora Saul disse ai suoi servitori: «Cercatemi una donna che sappia evocare gli spiriti e io andrò da lei a consultarla». I servitori gli dissero: «A En-Dor c’è una donna che evoca gli spiriti». 8 Allora Saul si camuffò, si mise altri abiti e partì accompagnato da due uomini. Giunsero di notte dalla donna e Saul le disse: «Dimmi l’avvenire, ti prego, mediante l’evocazione di uno spirito, e fammi salire colui che ti dirò». 9 La donna gli rispose: «Ecco, tu sai quello che Saul ha fatto, come egli ha sterminato dal paese gli evocatori di spiriti e gli indovini; perché dunque tendi un tranello alla mia vita per farmi morire?» 10 Saul le giurò per il Signore e disse: «Com’è vero che il Signore vive, nessuna punizione ti toccherà per questo!» 11 Allora la donna gli disse: «Chi debbo farti salire?» Ed egli rispose: «Fammi salire Samuele». 12 E quando la donna vide Samuele urlò e disse a Saul: «Perché mi hai ingannata? Tu sei Saul!» 13 Il re le disse: «Non preoccuparti; che vedi?» E la donna a Saul: «Vedo un essere sovrumano che esce di sotto terra». 14 Ed egli a lei: «Che forma ha?» Lei rispose: «È un vecchio che sale ed è avvolto in un mantello». Allora Saul comprese che era Samuele, si chinò con la faccia a terra e gli si prostrò davanti. 15 Samuele disse a Saul: «Perché mi hai disturbato, facendomi salire?» Saul rispose: «Sono in grande angoscia, poiché i Filistei mi fanno guerra e Dio si è ritirato da me e non mi risponde più mediante i profeti né tramite sogni; perciò ti ho chiamato perché tu mi faccia sapere quello che devo fare». 16 Samuele disse: «Perché consulti me, mentre il Signore si è ritirato da te e ti è diventato avversario? 17 Il Signore ha agito come aveva annunciato per mezzo di me; il Signore ti strappa di mano il regno e lo dà a un altro, a Davide, 18 perché non hai ubbidito alla voce del Signore e non hai lasciato sfogare la sua ira ardente contro Amalec; perciò il Signore ti tratta così oggi. 19 Assieme a te il Signore darà anche Israele nelle mani dei Filistei, e domani tu e i tuoi figli sarete con me; il Signore darà anche l’accampamento d’Israele nelle mani dei Filistei». 20 Allora Saul cadde di colpo lungo disteso per terra, spaventato dalle parole di Samuele; era inoltre senza forza perché non aveva preso cibo tutto quel giorno e tutta quella notte. 21 La donna si avvicinò a Saul e, vedendolo tutto atterrito, gli disse: «Ecco, la tua serva ha ubbidito alla tua voce. Ho messo a repentaglio la mia vita per ubbidire alle parole che mi hai dette. 22 Anche tu dunque, ascolta la voce della tua serva e permetti che io ti metta davanti un boccone di pane; mangia per prendere forza, se vuoi metterti in viaggio». 23 Ma egli rifiutò e disse: «Non mangerò». I suoi servi, però, insistettero insieme alla donna ed egli si arrese alle loro pressioni; si alzò da terra e si mise seduto sul letto. 24 La donna aveva in casa un vitello ingrassato, che si affrettò ad ammazzare. Poi prese della farina, la impastò e ne fece dei pani senza lievito; 25 mise quei cibi davanti a Saul e ai suoi servitori e quelli mangiarono. Poi si alzarono e ripartirono quella stessa notte.

1 Und es begab sich zu der Zeit, dass die Philister ihr Heer sammelten, um in den Kampf zu ziehen gegen Israel. Und Achisch sprach zu David: Du sollst wissen, dass du und deine Männer mit mir ausziehen sollen im Heer. 2 David sprach zu Achisch: Wohlan, du sollst erfahren, was dein Knecht tun wird. Achisch sprach zu David: So will ich dich zu meinem Leibwächter einsetzen für die ganze Zeit.

Saul bei der Totenbeschwörerin in En-Dor

3 Samuel aber war gestorben, und ganz Israel hatte ihm die Totenklage gehalten und ihn begraben in seiner Stadt Rama. Und Saul hatte die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager aus dem Lande vertrieben. (Eso 22,17; 1Sam 25,1) 4 Als nun die Philister sich versammelten und herankamen und sich lagerten bei Schunem, versammelte Saul auch ganz Israel, und sie lagerten sich auf dem Gebirge Gilboa. (1Sam 31,1) 5 Als aber Saul das Heer der Philister sah, fürchtete er sich, und sein Herz verzagte sehr. 6 Und er befragte den HERRN; aber der HERR antwortete ihm nicht, weder durch Träume noch durch das Los »Licht« noch durch Propheten. (Eso 28,30; 1Sam 14,41) 7 Da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten: Sucht mir eine Frau, die Tote beschwören kann, dass ich zu ihr gehe und sie befrage. Seine Männer sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, in En-Dor ist eine Frau, die kann Tote beschwören. (Le 19,31; Is 8,19; Is 8,20) 8 Und Saul machte sich unkenntlich und zog andere Kleider an und ging hin und zwei Männer mit ihm, und sie kamen bei Nacht zu der Frau. Und Saul sprach: Wahrsage mir doch durch einen Totengeist, und hole mir herauf, wen ich dir nenne. (1Cr 10,13) 9 Die Frau sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du weißt doch, was Saul getan hat, dass er die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager ausgerottet hat im Lande; warum willst du mir denn eine Falle stellen, dass ich getötet werde? 10 Saul aber schwor ihr bei dem HERRN und sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt: Es soll dich in dieser Sache keine Schuld treffen. 11 Da sprach die Frau: Wen soll ich dir denn heraufholen? Er sprach: Hol mir Samuel herauf! 12 Als nun die Frau Samuel sah, schrie sie laut und sprach zu Saul: Warum hast du mich betrogen? Du bist Saul. 13 Und der König sprach zu ihr: Fürchte dich nicht! Was siehst du? Die Frau sprach zu Saul: Ich sehe einen Gott heraufsteigen aus der Erde. 14 Er sprach: Wie sieht er aus? Sie sprach: Es kommt ein alter Mann herauf und ist bekleidet mit einem Priesterrock. Da erkannte Saul, dass es Samuel war, und neigte sich mit seinem Antlitz zur Erde und fiel nieder. (1Sam 2,19; 1Sam 15,27) 15 Samuel aber sprach zu Saul: Warum hast du meine Ruhe gestört, dass du mich heraufsteigen lässt? Saul sprach: Ich bin in großer Bedrängnis, die Philister kämpfen gegen mich, und Gott ist von mir gewichen und antwortet mir nicht mehr, weder durch Propheten noch durch Träume; darum hab ich dich rufen lassen, dass du mir kundtust, was ich tun soll. 16 Samuel sprach: Warum willst du mich befragen, da doch der HERR von dir gewichen und dein Feind geworden ist? 17 Der HERR hat getan, wie er durch mich geredet hat, und hat das Königtum aus deiner Hand gerissen und einem andern gegeben, dem David. (1Sam 15,28) 18 Weil du der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorcht und seinen grimmigen Zorn nicht an Amalek vollstreckt hast, darum hat der HERR dir dies jetzt getan. (Eso 17,14; Eso 17,16; 1Sam 15,18) 19 Dazu wird der HERR mit dir auch Israel in die Hand der Philister geben. Morgen wirst du mit deinen Söhnen bei mir sein. Auch wird der HERR das Heer Israels in die Hand der Philister geben. (1Sam 31,6) 20 Da stürzte Saul zur Erde, so lang er war, und geriet in große Furcht über die Worte Samuels. Auch war keine Kraft mehr in ihm; denn er hatte nichts gegessen den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht. 21 Und die Frau trat zu Saul und sah, dass er sehr erschrocken war, und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, deine Magd hat deiner Stimme gehorcht, und ich habe mein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt, als ich die Worte hörte, die du zu mir gesagt hast. 22 So gehorche nun auch du der Stimme deiner Magd! Ich will dir einen Bissen Brot vorsetzen, dass du isst und zu Kräften kommst und deine Straße gehen kannst. 23 Er aber weigerte sich und sprach: Ich will nicht essen. Da nötigten ihn seine Männer und die Frau, bis er auf ihre Stimme hörte. Und er stand auf von der Erde und setzte sich aufs Bett. 24 Die Frau aber hatte im Haus ein gemästetes Kalb; das schlachtete sie eilends und nahm Mehl und knetete es und backte ungesäuertes Brot (Eso 12,39) 25 und setzte es Saul und seinen Männern vor. Und als sie gegessen hatten, standen sie auf und gingen fort noch in der Nacht.

1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men. 2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever. 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. 4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa. 5 And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. 6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. 7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. 8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. 9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? 10 And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. 11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. 12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. 13 And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. 14 And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. 15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. 16 Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy? 17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: 18 Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day. 19 Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines. 20 Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night. 21 And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me. 22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way. 23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed. 24 And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it , and did bake unleavened bread thereof: 25 And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

Saúl y la adivina de Endor

1 Por aquel tiempo, los filisteos reunieron sus tropas para ir a la guerra contra Israel. Por lo tanto, Aquis le dijo a David: —Quiero que sepas que tú y tus hombres saldrán conmigo a la guerra. 2 —Está bien —respondió David—. Ya verá Su Majestad de lo que es capaz este siervo suyo. —Si es así —añadió Aquis—, de ahora en adelante te nombro mi guardaespaldas. 3 Ya Samuel había muerto. Todo Israel había hecho duelo por él, y lo habían enterrado en Ramá, que era su propio pueblo. Saúl, por su parte, había expulsado del país a los adivinos y a los hechiceros. 4 Los filisteos concentraron sus fuerzas y fueron a Sunén, donde acamparon. Saúl reunió entonces a los israelitas, y armaron su campamento en Guilboa. 5 Pero cuando vio Saúl al ejército filisteo, le entró tal miedo que se descorazonó por completo. 6 Por eso consultó al Señor, pero él no le respondió ni en sueños, ni por el urim ni por los profetas. 7 Por eso Saúl les ordenó a sus oficiales: —Búsquenme a una adivina, para que yo vaya a consultarla. —Pues hay una en Endor —le respondieron. 8 Saúl se disfrazó con otra ropa y, acompañado de dos hombres, se fue de noche a ver a la mujer. —Quiero que evoques a un espíritu —le pidió Saúl—. Haz que se me aparezca el que yo te diga. 9 —¿Acaso no sabe usted lo que ha hecho Saúl? —respondió la mujer—. ¡Ha expulsado del país a los adivinos y a los hechiceros! ¿Por qué viene usted a tenderme una trampa y exponerme a la muerte? 10 —¡Tan cierto como que el Señor vive, te juro que nadie te va a castigar por esto! —contestó Saúl. 11 —¿A quién desea usted que yo haga aparecer? —preguntó la mujer. —Evócame a Samuel —respondió Saúl. 12 Al ver a Samuel, la mujer pegó un grito. —¡Pero si usted es Saúl! ¿Por qué me ha engañado? —le reclamó. 13 —No tienes nada que temer —dijo el rey—. Dime lo que has visto. —Veo un espíritu que sube^[1] de la tierra —respondió ella. 14 —¿Y qué aspecto tiene? —El de un anciano, que sube envuelto en un manto. Al darse cuenta Saúl de que era Samuel, se postró rostro en tierra. 15 Samuel le dijo a Saúl: —¿Por qué me molestas, haciéndome subir? —Estoy muy angustiado —respondió Saúl—. Los filisteos me están atacando, y Dios me ha abandonado. Ya no me responde, ni en sueños ni por medio de profetas. Por eso decidí llamarte, para que me digas lo que debo hacer. 16 Samuel le replicó: —Pero si el Señor se ha alejado de ti y se ha vuelto tu enemigo, ¿por qué me consultas a mí? 17 El Señor ha cumplido lo que había anunciado por medio de mí: él te ha arrebatado de las manos el reino, y se lo ha dado a tu compañero David. 18 Tú no obedeciste al Señor, pues no llevaste a cabo la furia de su castigo contra los amalecitas; por eso él te condena hoy. 19 El Señor te entregará a ti y a Israel en manos de los filisteos. Mañana tú y tus hijos se unirán a mí, y el campamento israelita caerá en poder de los filisteos. 20 Al instante Saúl se desplomó. Y es que estaba lleno de miedo por lo que Samuel le había dicho, además de que se moría de hambre, pues en toda la noche y en todo el día no había comido nada. 21 Al verlo tan asustado, la mujer se le acercó y le dijo: —Yo, su servidora, le hice caso a usted y, por obedecer sus órdenes, me jugué la vida. 22 Ahora yo le pido que me haga caso a mí. Déjeme traerle algún alimento para que coma; así podrá recuperarse y seguir su camino. 23 Pero Saúl se negó a comer. Sin embargo, sus oficiales insistieron al igual que la mujer, y por fin consintió. Se levantó del suelo y tomó asiento. 24 La mujer tenía en su casa un ternero gordo, al que mató en seguida. También amasó harina y horneó unos panes sin levadura. 25 Luego les sirvió a Saúl y a sus oficiales. Esa misma noche, después de comer, todos ellos emprendieron el camino.
