Nascita di Samuele

1 C’era un uomo di Ramataim-Sofim, della regione montuosa di Efraim, che si chiamava Elcana, figlio di Ieroam, figlio di Eliù, figlio di Toù, figlio di Suf, efraimita. 2 Aveva due mogli: una di nome Anna e l’altra di nome Peninna. Peninna aveva dei figli, ma Anna non ne aveva. 3 Quest’uomo, ogni anno, saliva dalla sua città per andare ad adorare il Signore degli eserciti e offrirgli dei sacrifici a Silo; e là c’erano i due figli di Eli, Ofni e Fineas, sacerdoti del Signore. 4 Nel giorno in cui Elcana offrì il sacrificio diede a Peninna, sua moglie, e a tutti i figli e a tutte le figlie di lei le loro parti; 5 ma ad Anna diede una parte doppia, perché amava Anna, benché il Signore l’avesse fatta sterile. 6 La rivale mortificava continuamente Anna per amareggiarla perché il Signore l’aveva fatta sterile. 7 Così avveniva ogni anno; ogni volta che Anna saliva alla casa del Signore, Peninna la mortificava a quel modo; perciò lei piangeva e non mangiava più. 8 Elcana, suo marito, le diceva: «Anna, perché piangi? Perché non mangi? Perché è triste il tuo cuore? Per te io non valgo forse più di dieci figli?» 9 Dopo che ebbero mangiato e bevuto a Silo, Anna si alzò. Il sacerdote Eli stava in quell’ora seduto sulla sua sedia all’entrata del tempio del Signore. 10 Lei aveva l’anima piena di amarezza e pregò il Signore piangendo a dirotto. 11 Fece un voto e disse: «O Signore degli eserciti, se hai riguardo all’afflizione della tua serva e ti ricordi di me, se non dimentichi la tua serva e dai alla tua serva un figlio maschio, io lo consacrerò al Signore per tutti i giorni della sua vita e il rasoio non passerà sulla sua testa». 12 La sua preghiera davanti al Signore si prolungava, ed Eli osservava la bocca di lei. 13 Anna parlava in cuor suo e si muovevano soltanto le sue labbra, ma non si sentiva la sua voce; perciò Eli credette che fosse ubriaca, 14 e le disse: «Quanto durerà questa tua ubriachezza? Va’ a smaltire il tuo vino!» 15 Ma Anna rispose e disse: «No, mio signore, io sono una donna tribolata nello spirito e non ho bevuto vino né bevanda alcolica, ma stavo solo aprendo il mio cuore davanti al Signore. 16 Non prendere la tua serva per una donna da nulla; perché l’eccesso del mio dolore e della mia tristezza mi ha fatto parlare fino ad ora». 17 Ed Eli replicò: «Va’ in pace e il Dio d’Israele esaudisca la preghiera che gli hai rivolta!» 18 Lei rispose: «Possa la tua serva trovare grazia agli occhi tuoi!» Così la donna se ne andò per la sua via, mangiò, e il suo aspetto non fu più quello di prima. 19 L’indomani lei e suo marito si alzarono di buon’ora e si prostrarono davanti al Signore; poi partirono e ritornarono a casa loro, a Rama. Elcana si unì ad Anna, sua moglie, e il Signore si ricordò di lei. 20 Nel corso dell’anno Anna concepì e partorì un figlio, che chiamò Samuele^[1], perché disse: «L’ho chiesto al Signore». 21 E quell’uomo, Elcana, salì con tutta la sua famiglia per andare a offrire al Signore il sacrificio annuo e a sciogliere il suo voto. 22 Ma Anna non salì, perché disse a suo marito: «Io non salirò finché il bambino non sia divezzato; allora lo condurrò, perché sia presentato davanti al Signore e rimanga là per sempre». 23 Elcana, suo marito, le rispose: «Fa’ come ti sembra bene; rimani finché tu lo abbia divezzato, purché il Signore adempia la sua parola!» Così la donna rimase a casa, e allattò suo figlio fino al momento di divezzarlo. 24 Quando lo ebbe divezzato, lo condusse con sé e prese tre torelli, un efa di farina e un otre di vino; e lo condusse nella casa del Signore a Silo. Il bambino era ancora molto piccolo. 25 Elcana e Anna sacrificarono il torello e condussero il bambino a Eli. 26 Anna gli disse: «Mio signore! Com’è vero che tu vivi, o mio signore, io sono quella donna che stava qui vicina a te, a pregare il Signore. 27 Pregai per avere questo bambino; il Signore mi ha concesso quel che io gli avevo domandato. 28 Perciò anch’io lo dono al Signore; finché vivrà, egli sarà donato al Signore». E si prostrò là davanti al Signore.

Hannas Gebet und Samuels Geburt

1 Es war ein Mann von Ramatajim-Zofim, vom Gebirge Ephraim, der hieß Elkana, ein Sohn Jerohams, des Sohnes Elihus, des Sohnes Tohus, des Sohnes Zufs, ein Ephraimiter. (1Cr 6,11; 1Cr 6,19) 2 Und er hatte zwei Frauen; die eine hieß Hanna, die andere Peninna. Peninna aber hatte Kinder und Hanna hatte keine Kinder. (Gen 25,21; Gen 29,31; De 21,15) 3 Dieser Mann ging jährlich hinauf von seiner Stadt, um anzubeten und dem HERRN Zebaoth zu opfern in Silo. Dort aber waren Hofni und Pinhas, die beiden Söhne Elis, Priester des HERRN. (Gios 18,1; 1Sam 4,4; Ger 7,12) 4 Wenn nun der Tag kam, dass Elkana opferte, gab er seiner Frau Peninna und allen ihren Söhnen und Töchtern ihre Anteile. 5 Aber Hanna gab er nur einen Anteil, obgleich er Hanna lieb hatte; der HERR aber hatte ihren Leib verschlossen. 6 Und ihre Widersacherin kränkte und reizte sie sehr, weil der HERR ihren Leib verschlossen hatte. 7 So ging es alle Jahre; wenn sie hinaufzog zum Haus des HERRN, kränkte jene sie. Dann weinte Hanna und aß nichts. 8 Elkana aber, ihr Mann, sprach zu ihr: Hanna, warum weinst du und warum isst du nichts? Und warum ist dein Herz so traurig? Bin ich dir nicht mehr wert als zehn Söhne? 9 Da stand Hanna auf, nachdem sie in Silo gegessen und getrunken hatten. Eli aber, der Priester, saß auf einem Stuhl am Türpfosten des Tempels des HERRN. 10 Und sie war von Herzen betrübt und betete zum HERRN und weinte sehr 11 und gelobte ein Gelübde und sprach: HERR Zebaoth, wirst du das Elend deiner Magd ansehen und an mich gedenken und deiner Magd nicht vergessen und wirst du deiner Magd einen Sohn geben, so will ich ihn dem HERRN geben sein Leben lang, und kein Schermesser soll auf sein Haupt kommen. (Nu 6,1; Giudic 13,5) 12 Und da sie lange betete vor dem HERRN, achtete Eli auf ihren Mund; 13 denn Hanna redete in ihrem Herzen, nur ihre Lippen bewegten sich, ihre Stimme aber hörte man nicht. Da meinte Eli, sie wäre betrunken. 14 Und Eli sprach zu ihr: Wie lange willst du betrunken sein? Gib den Wein von dir, den du getrunken hast! 15 Hanna aber antwortete und sprach: Nein, mein Herr! Ich bin eine betrübte Frau; Wein und starkes Getränk hab ich nicht getrunken, sondern habe mein Herz vor dem HERRN ausgeschüttet. 16 Du wollest deine Magd nicht für eine zuchtlose Frau halten, denn ich hab aus meinem großen Kummer und aus Traurigkeit so lange geredet. 17 Eli antwortete und sprach: Gehe hin mit Frieden; der Gott Israels wird dir geben, was du von ihm erbeten hast. 18 Sie sprach: Lass deine Magd Gnade finden vor deinen Augen. Da ging die Frau ihres Weges und aß und sah nicht mehr so traurig drein. 19 Und am andern Morgen machten sie sich früh auf. Und als sie angebetet hatten vor dem HERRN, kehrten sie wieder um und kamen heim nach Rama. Und Elkana erkannte Hanna, seine Frau, und der HERR gedachte an sie. (Gen 30,22) 20 Und als die Tage um waren, ward Hanna schwanger, und sie gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Samuel; denn, so sprach sie, ich hab ihn von dem HERRN erbeten. 21 Und als der Mann Elkana hinaufzog mit seinem ganzen Hause, um dem HERRN das jährliche Opfer zu opfern und was er gelobt hatte, 22 zog Hanna nicht mit hinauf, sondern sprach zu ihrem Mann: Wenn der Knabe entwöhnt ist, will ich ihn bringen, dass er vor dem HERRN erscheine und bleibe dort für immer. 23 Elkana, ihr Mann, sprach zu ihr: So tu, wie dir’s gefällt! Bleib, bis du ihn entwöhnt hast; der HERR bestätige aber, was er geredet hat. So blieb die Frau und stillte ihren Sohn, bis sie ihn entwöhnt hatte. 24 Nachdem sie ihn entwöhnt hatte, nahm sie ihn mit sich hinauf, dazu einen dreijährigen Stier, einen Scheffel Mehl und einen Krug Wein, und brachte ihn in das Haus des HERRN nach Silo. Der Knabe war aber noch jung. (Nu 15,3; Nu 15,8) 25 Und sie schlachteten den Stier und brachten den Knaben zu Eli. 26 Und sie sprach: Ach, mein Herr, so wahr du lebst, mein Herr: Ich bin die Frau, die hier bei dir stand, um zum HERRN zu beten. 27 Um diesen Knaben bat ich. Nun hat der HERR mir gegeben, was ich von ihm erbeten habe. 28 Darum gebe ich ihn dem HERRN wieder sein Leben lang, weil er vom HERRN erbeten ist. Und sie beteten dort den HERRN an. 1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite: 2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there. 4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. 7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons? 9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. 11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth. 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. 18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad . 19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying , Because I have asked him of the LORD. 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. 23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him. 24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. 27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: 28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

1 En la sierra de Efraín había un hombre zufita de Ramatayin.^[1] Su nombre era Elcaná hijo de Jeroán, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Tohu, hijo de Zuf, efraimita. 2 Elcaná tenía dos esposas. Una de ellas se llamaba Ana, y la otra, Penina. Ésta tenía hijos, pero Ana no tenía ninguno. 3 Cada año Elcaná salía de su pueblo para adorar al Señor Todopoderoso y ofrecerle sacrificios en Siló, donde Ofni y Finés, los dos hijos de Elí, oficiaban como sacerdotes del Señor. 4 Cuando llegaba el día de ofrecer su sacrificio, Elcaná solía darles a Penina y a todos sus hijos e hijas la porción que les correspondía. 5 Pero a Ana le daba una porción especial,^[2] pues la amaba a pesar de que el Señor la había hecho estéril. 6 Penina, su rival, solía atormentarla para que se enojara, ya que el Señor la había hecho estéril. 7 Cada año, cuando iban a la casa del Señor, sucedía lo mismo: Penina la atormentaba, hasta que Ana se ponía a llorar y ni comer quería. 8 Entonces Elcaná, su esposo, le decía: «Ana, ¿por qué lloras? ¿Por qué no comes? ¿Por qué estás resentida? ¿Acaso no soy para ti mejor que diez hijos?» 9 Una vez, estando en Siló, Ana se levantó después de la comida. Y a la vista del sacerdote Elí, que estaba sentado en su silla junto a la puerta del santuario del Señor, 10 con gran angustia comenzó a orar al Señor y a llorar desconsoladamente. 11 Entonces hizo este voto: «Señor Todopoderoso, si te dignas mirar la desdicha de esta sierva tuya y, si en vez de olvidarme, te acuerdas de mí y me concedes un hijo varón, yo te lo entregaré para toda su vida, y nunca se le cortará el cabello.» 12 Como Ana estuvo orando largo rato ante el Señor, Elí se fijó en su boca. 13 Sus labios se movían pero, debido a que Ana oraba en voz baja, no se podía oír su voz. Elí pensó que estaba borracha, 14 así que le dijo: —¿Hasta cuándo te va a durar la borrachera? ¡Deja ya el vino! 15 —No, mi señor; no he bebido ni vino ni cerveza. Soy sólo una mujer angustiada que ha venido a desahogarse delante del Señor. 16 No me tome usted por una mala mujer. He pasado este tiempo orando debido a mi angustia y aflicción. 17 —Vete en paz —respondió Elí—. Que el Dios de Israel te conceda lo que le has pedido. 18 —Gracias. Ojalá favorezca usted siempre a esta sierva suya. Con esto, Ana se despidió y se fue a comer. Desde ese momento, su semblante cambió. 19 Al día siguiente madrugaron y, después de adorar al Señor, volvieron a su casa en Ramá. Luego Elcaná se unió a su esposa Ana, y el Señor se acordó de ella. 20 Ana concibió y, pasado un año, dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Samuel,^[3] pues dijo: «Al Señor se lo pedí.»

21 Cuando Elcaná salió con toda su familia para cumplir su promesa y ofrecer su sacrificio anual al Señor, 22 Ana no lo acompañó. —No iré hasta que el niño sea destetado —le explicó a su esposo—. Entonces lo llevaré para dedicarlo al Señor, y allí se quedará el resto de su vida. 23 —Bien, haz lo que te parezca mejor —respondió su esposo Elcaná—. Quédate hasta que lo destetes, con tal de que el Señor cumpla su palabra. Así pues, Ana se quedó en su casa y crió a su hijo hasta que lo destetó. 24 Cuando dejó de amamantarlo, salió con el niño, a pesar de ser tan pequeño, y lo llevó a la casa del Señor en Siló. También llevó un becerro de tres años,^[4] una medida de harina y un odre de vino. 25 Luego sacrificaron el becerro y presentaron el niño a Elí. 26 Dijo Ana: «Mi señor, tan cierto como que usted vive, le juro que yo soy la mujer que estuvo aquí a su lado orando al Señor. 27 Éste es el niño que yo le pedí al Señor, y él me lo concedió. 28 Ahora yo, por mi parte, se lo entrego al Señor. Mientras el niño viva, estará dedicado a él.» Entonces Elí^[5] se postró allí ante el Señor.
