E gli Egiziani lo piansero settanta giorni.4Quando i giorni del lutto fatto per lui furono passati, Giuseppe parlò alla casa del faraone, dicendo: «Se ora ho trovato grazia ai vostri occhi, fate giungere agli orecchi del faraone queste parole:5“Mio padre mi ha fatto giurare e mi ha detto: ‘Ecco, io muoio; seppelliscimi nel mio sepolcro, che mi sono scavato nel paese di Canaan’. Ora dunque, permetti che io salga e seppellisca mio padre; poi tornerò”».6Il faraone rispose: «Sali e seppellisci tuo padre come ti ha fatto giurare».7Allora Giuseppe salì a seppellire suo padre e con lui salirono tutti i servitori del faraone, gli anziani della sua casa e tutti gli anziani del paese d’Egitto,8tutta la casa di Giuseppe e i suoi fratelli e la casa di suo padre. Non lasciarono nella terra di Goscen che i loro bambini, le loro greggi e i loro armenti.9Con lui salirono pure carri e cavalieri, così da formare un corteo numerosissimo.10Quando giunsero all’aia di Atad, che è oltre il Giordano, vi furono grandi e profondi lamenti. Giuseppe fece a suo padre un lutto di sette giorni.11Quando gli abitanti del paese, i Cananei, videro il lutto dell’aia di Atad, dissero: «Questo è un grave lutto per gli Egiziani!» Perciò fu messo il nome di Abel-Misraim[1] a quell’aia, che è oltre il Giordano.12I figli di Giacobbe fecero per lui quello che egli aveva ordinato loro:13lo trasportarono nel paese di Canaan e lo seppellirono nella grotta del campo di Macpela, che Abraamo aveva comprato con il campo da Efron l’Ittita, come sepolcro di sua proprietà, di fronte a Mamre.14Giuseppe, dopo aver sepolto suo padre, tornò in Egitto con i suoi fratelli e con tutti quelli che erano saliti con lui a seppellire suo padre.15I fratelli di Giuseppe, quando videro che il loro padre era morto, dissero: «Chi sa se Giuseppe non ci porterà odio e non ci renderà tutto il male che gli abbiamo fatto?»16Perciò mandarono a dire a Giuseppe: «Tuo padre, prima di morire, diede quest’ordine:17“Dite così a Giuseppe: ‘Perdona ora ai tuoi fratelli il loro misfatto e il loro peccato; perché ti hanno fatto del male’”. Ti prego, perdona dunque ora il misfatto dei servi del Dio di tuo padre!» Giuseppe, quando gli parlarono così, pianse.18I suoi fratelli vennero anch’essi, s’inchinarono ai suoi piedi e dissero: «Ecco, siamo tuoi servi».19Giuseppe disse loro: «Non temete. Sono io forse al posto di Dio?20Voi avevate pensato del male contro di me, ma Dio ha pensato di convertirlo in bene per compiere quello che oggi avviene: per conservare in vita un popolo numeroso.21Ora dunque non temete. Io provvederò al sostentamento per voi e i vostri figli». Così li confortò e parlò al loro cuore.
Vecchiaia e morte di Giuseppe
22Giuseppe abitò in Egitto con la casa di suo padre; egli visse centodieci anni.23Giuseppe vide i figli di Efraim, fino alla terza generazione; anche i figli di Machir, figlio di Manasse, nacquero sulle sue ginocchia.24Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Io sto per morire, ma Dio per certo vi visiterà e vi farà salire, da questo paese, nel paese che promise con giuramento ad Abraamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe».25Giuseppe fece giurare i figli d’Israele, dicendo: «Dio per certo vi visiterà; allora portate via da qui le mie ossa».26Poi Giuseppe morì, all’età di centodieci anni; e fu imbalsamato e deposto in un sarcofago in Egitto.

Dort ist unser Familiengrab. Lass mich meinen Vater nach Kanaan bringen! Danach komme ich wieder zurück!«6Der Pharao ließ ihm sagen: »Du kannst deinen Vater bestatten, wie du es ihm versprochen hast.«7Josef machte sich auf den Weg. Mit ihm zogen die obersten Beamten und Würdenträger Ägyptens,8seine eigene Familie und die Familien seiner Brüder sowie alle anderen Angehörigen Jakobs. Nur die kleinen Kinder und das Vieh ließen sie in Goschen zurück.9Auch Kriegswagen und Reiter begleiteten die vielen Menschen, die Jakob die letzte Ehre erwiesen. Es war ein sehr großer Trauerzug.10Als sie nach Goren-Atad östlich des Jordan kamen, ließ Josef die Totenklage für seinen Vater halten. Sieben Tage lang wurde tief getrauert und der Tod Jakobs beweint.11Die einheimischen Kanaaniter beobachteten sie und staunten: »Seht, wie groß die Trauer der Ägypter ist!« Darum heißt der Ort Abel-Mizrajim (»Trauer der Ägypter«).12-13Jakobs Söhne erfüllten den Wunsch ihres Vaters und brachten ihn nach Kanaan. Sie bestatteten ihn in der Höhle bei Machpela, östlich von Mamre, in dem Familiengrab, das Abraham damals von dem Hetiter Efron gekauft hatte.14Danach kehrten Josef und seine Brüder mit dem Trauerzug nach Ägypten zurück.
Was Gott beschlossen hat, das steht fest
15Weil ihr Vater nun tot war, bekamen Josefs Brüder Angst. »Was ist, wenn Josef sich jetzt doch noch rächen will und uns alles Böse heimzahlt, was wir ihm angetan haben?«16Sie schickten einen Boten zu Josef mit der Nachricht: »Bevor dein Vater starb, beauftragte er uns, dir zu sagen:17›Vergib deinen Brüdern das Unrecht von damals! Trage ihnen nicht nach, was sie dir Schlimmes angetan haben!‹ Darum bitten wir dich jetzt: Verzeih uns! Wir dienen doch demselben Gott wie du und unser Vater!« Als Josef das hörte, musste er weinen.18Danach kamen die Brüder selbst zu ihm, warfen sich zu Boden und sagten: »Bitte, Herr, wir sind deine Diener!«19Aber Josef erwiderte: »Habt keine Angst! Ich maße mir doch nicht an, euch an Gottes Stelle zu richten!20Ihr wolltet mir Böses tun, aber Gott hat Gutes daraus entstehen lassen. Durch meine hohe Stellung konnte ich vielen Menschen das Leben retten.21Ihr braucht also nichts zu befürchten. Ich werde für euch und eure Familien sorgen.« So beruhigte Josef seine Brüder und redete ihnen freundlich zu.
Josefs Tod
22Josef, seine Brüder und ihre Familien blieben in Ägypten wohnen. Josef wurde 110 Jahre alt.23Er sah noch Ephraims Kinder und Enkel. Auch erlebte er noch die Kinder von Machir, dem Sohn Manasses, und nahm sie in seine Familie auf.[1] (Gen 30,3)24Als Josef merkte, dass er bald sterben würde, versammelte er seine Brüder um sich und sagte: »Mein Leben geht bald zu Ende. Aber Gott wird euch zu Hilfe kommen, darauf könnt ihr euch verlassen. Er wird euch aus Ägypten herausführen und in das Land bringen, das er Abraham, Isaak und Jakob versprochen hat.25Schwört mir, dass ihr meine Gebeine mitnehmt, wenn Gott euch nach Kanaan bringt!« Die Brüder schworen es.26Josef starb im Alter von 110 Jahren. Sein Körper wurde einbalsamiert und in einen Sarg gelegt.

God’s Good Purposes
15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.”16So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died:17‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. (Gen 49,25)18His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” (Gen 37,7; Gen 37,10)19But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? (Gen 30,2; 2Re 5,7)20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people[2] should be kept alive, as they are today. The Death of Joseph
22So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father’s house. Joseph lived 110 years.23And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were counted as Joseph’s own.[3] (Gen 30,3; Nu 32,39; 1Cr 7,14; Giob 42,16; Sal 128,6)24And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” (Gen 15,14; Gen 15,18; Gen 26,3; Gen 28,13; Gen 35,12; Gen 46,4; Gen 48,21; Eso 3,16; Eb 11,22)25Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” (Eso 13,19; Gios 24,32)26So Joseph died, being 110 years old. Última voluntad de José
24Después, dijo José a sus hermanos: Yo voy a morir, pero ’Elohim ciertamente os visitará, y os hará subir de esta tierra a la tierra que juró dar a Abraham, a Isaac, y a Jacob.25Entonces José hizo jurar a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: ’Elohim ciertamente os visitará, entonces haréis subir mis huesos de aquí.26Y murió José a la edad de ciento diez años, y lo embalsamaron, y fue puesto en el ataúd en Egipto.
