Io ho fatto questo nell’integrità del mio cuore e con mani innocenti».6Dio gli disse nel sogno: «Anch’io so che tu hai fatto questo nell’integrità del tuo cuore: ti ho quindi preservato dal peccare contro di me; perciò non ti ho permesso di toccarla.7Ora, restituisci la moglie a quest’uomo, perché è profeta; egli pregherà per te e tu vivrai. Ma, se non la restituisci, sappi che sicuramente morirai, tu e tutti i tuoi».8Abimelec si alzò di mattina presto, chiamò tutti i suoi servi e raccontò in loro presenza tutte queste cose. E quegli uomini furono presi da grande paura.9Poi Abimelec chiamò Abraamo e gli disse: «Che ci hai fatto? In che cosa ti ho offeso, ché tu abbia attirato su di me e sul mio regno questo grande peccato? Tu mi hai fatto cose che non si debbono fare».10Di nuovo Abimelec disse ad Abraamo: «A che miravi facendo questo?»11Abraamo rispose: «L’ho fatto perché dicevo tra me: “Certo, in questo luogo non c’è timor di Dio e mi uccideranno a causa di mia moglie”.12Inoltre, è veramente mia sorella, figlia di mio padre, ma non figlia di mia madre, ed è diventata mia moglie.13Or quando Dio mi fece emigrare lontano dalla casa di mio padre, io le dissi: “Questo è il favore che tu mi farai; dovunque giungeremo dirai di me: ‘È mio fratello’”».14Abimelec prese delle pecore, dei buoi, dei servi e delle serve; li diede ad Abraamo e gli restituì Sara, sua moglie.15Abimelec disse: «Ecco, il mio paese ti sta davanti; va’ a stabilirti dove ti piacerà».16E a Sara disse: «Ecco, io ho dato a tuo fratello mille pezzi d’argento; questo sarà per te come un velo agli occhi davanti a tutti quelli che sono con te, e sarai riabilitata di fronte a tutti».17Abraamo pregò Dio e Dio guarì Abimelec, la moglie e le serve di lui, ed esse poterono partorire.18Infatti, il Signore aveva reso sterile l’intera casa di Abimelec a causa di Sara, moglie di Abraamo.
1Abraham zog südwärts in die Wüste Negev und wohnte eine Zeit lang zwischen Kadesch und Schur. Danach ließ er sich in der Stadt Gerar nieder.2Dort gab er seine Frau als seine Schwester aus. Abimelech, der König von Gerar, fand Gefallen an Sara und ließ sie in sein Haus holen.3In der Nacht erschien Gott Abimelech im Traum und sagte: »Du musst sterben! Denn die Frau, die du dir genommen hast, ist mit einem anderen verheiratet!«4Abimelech aber hatte noch nicht mit Sara geschlafen. Er entgegnete: »Herr, willst du mich und mein Volk wirklich töten? Wir haben doch nichts Unrechtes getan!5Abraham hat zu mir gesagt, sie sei seine Schwester, und sie hat es bestätigt. Also habe ich es nicht anders wissen können, ich bin unschuldig!«6»Ja, ich weiß«, antwortete Gott, »deshalb habe ich dich auch davor zurückgehalten, an mir schuldig zu werden. Ich habe dafür gesorgt, dass du keine Gelegenheit hattest, mit ihr zu schlafen.7Und nun gib sie ihrem Mann zurück! Er ist ein Prophet; er soll für dich beten, dann wirst du am Leben bleiben. Wenn du sie ihm aber nicht zurückgibst, musst du auf jeden Fall sterben, und alle, die zu dir gehören, werden auch umkommen.«8Am nächsten Morgen stand Abimelech früh auf, rief alle seine Untergebenen zusammen und erzählte ihnen, was vorgefallen war. Die Männer bekamen große Angst.9Dann rief er Abraham zu sich und stellte ihn zur Rede: »Warum hast du uns das angetan? Was haben wir verbrochen, dass du mich und mein Volk in solch große Schuld hineinziehst? Wie du dich mir gegenüber verhalten hast, ist wirklich unerhört!10Was hast du dir nur dabei gedacht?«11Abraham erwiderte: »Ich glaubte, die Leute in dieser Stadt hätten keine Ehrfurcht vor Gott und kümmerten sich nicht um Gut und Böse. Ich dachte: ›Sie wollen bestimmt meine Frau haben und werden mich deshalb töten!‹12Außerdem ist sie wirklich meine Schwester: Wir haben nämlich beide denselben Vater, nur nicht dieselbe Mutter. Später ist sie dann meine Frau geworden.13Als Gott mir befahl, meine Heimat zu verlassen, sagte ich zu ihr: ›Tu mir den Gefallen und gib dich überall als meine Schwester aus!‹«14Da gab Abimelech Abraham seine Frau zurück und ließ ihm großzügige Geschenke zukommen: Knechte, Mägde, Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder.15»Hier, mein Land steht dir offen – du kannst wohnen, wo es dir gefällt!«, bot er Abraham an.16Danach wandte er sich an Sara: »Schau her! Ich gebe deinem Bruder 1000 Silberstücke als Entschädigung. Daran können die Leute sehen, dass deine Ehre nicht geraubt worden ist. Niemand soll dir etwas nachsagen können!«17-18Dann betete Abraham für Abimelech. Gott, der HERR, erhörte ihn und hob die Strafe wieder auf, die er über das ganze Haus Abimelechs verhängt hatte. Abimelechs Frau und alle seine Sklavinnen waren nämlich unfruchtbar geworden, weil er Abrahams Frau zu sich geholt hatte. Aber nun konnten sie wieder Kinder bekommen.
1From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. (Gen 16,7; Gen 16,14; Gen 26,3; Gen 26,6)2And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. (Gen 12,13; Gen 26,7)3But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” (Giob 33,15; Sal 105,14; Mat 1,20; Mat 2,12)4Now Abimelech had not approached her. So he said, “Lord, will you kill an innocent people? (Gen 18,23; 1Cr 21,17)5Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.”6Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her. (Gen 39,9; Sal 51,4)7Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.” (Nu 16,32; 1Sam 7,5; Giob 42,8)8So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things. And the men were very much afraid.9Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”10And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you did this thing?”11Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, ‘There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ (Gen 12,12; Gen 26,7; Prov 16,6)12Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father though not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. (Gen 11,29)13And when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’” (Gen 12,1; Gen 12,13)14Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him. (Gen 12,16)15And Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you; dwell where it pleases you.” (Gen 13,9; Gen 34,10)16To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is a sign of your innocence in the eyes of all[1] who are with you, and before everyone you are vindicated.” (Gen 20,5; Gen 24,65)17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children. (Giac 5,16)18For the Lord had closed all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. (Gen 12,17)

Con integridad de corazón y limpieza de manos he hecho esto.6Y ’Elohim le dijo en el sueño: También Yo sé que con integridad de tu corazón has hecho esto, y Yo también te retuve de pecar contra mí, por eso no te permití tocarla.7Devuelve ahora a la mujer de ese hombre, porque es profeta, y él orará por ti, y vivirás. Pero si no la devuelves, sabe que de cierto morirás, tú y todos los tuyos.8Abimelec entonces se levantó temprano por la mañana, y llamando a todos sus siervos, les habló todas estas cosas en privado, y aquellos hombres sintieron un gran temor.9Luego Abimelec llamó a Abraham, y le dijo: ¿Qué nos has hecho? ¿En qué he pecado contra ti, que has traído contra mí y contra mi reino tan gran pecado? ¡Hiciste conmigo cosas que no se deben hacer!10Dijo además Abimelec a Abraham: ¿Qué te indujo a hacer cosa semejante?11Respondió Abraham: Porque me dije: Ciertamente no hay temor de Dios en este lugar, y me matarán por el asunto de mi mujer.12Aunque, en efecto, ella es mi hermana, hija de mi padre, pero no hija de mi madre, y así vino a ser mi mujer.13Y sucedió que cuando ’Elohim me hizo salir errante de casa de mi padre, yo le dije a ella: De tu parte me harás este favor: A todo lugar que lleguemos, allí dirás de mí: él es mi hermano.14Entonces Abimelec tomó un rebaño y una vacada, siervos y siervas, y se lo dio a Abraham, y le devolvió a Sara su mujer.15Luego dijo Abimelec: Mira, mi tierra está delante de ti, establécete donde bien te parezca.16Y dijo a Sara: Fíjate, doy a tu hermano mil piezas de plata. Mira, esto será para ti como un velo para los ojos ante todos los que están contigo. Así ante todos quedas vindicada.17Y Abraham oró a ’Elohim, y ’Elohim sanó a Abimelec, y a su mujer y a sus siervas, las cuales tuvieron hijos,18pues YHVH había cerrado por completo toda matriz de la casa de Abimelec por el asunto de Sara, mujer de Abraham.
