Agar. Nascita d’Ismaele

1 Or Sarai, moglie di Abramo, non gli aveva dato figli. Aveva una serva egiziana di nome Agar. 2 Sarai disse ad Abramo: «Ecco, il Signore mi ha fatta sterile; ti prego, va’ dalla mia serva; forse avrò figli da lei». E Abramo diede ascolto alla voce di Sarai. 3 Così, dopo dieci anni di residenza di Abramo nel paese di Canaan, Sarai, moglie di Abramo, prese la sua serva Agar, l’Egiziana, e la diede per moglie ad Abramo suo marito. 4 Egli andò da Agar, che rimase incinta; e quando si accorse di essere incinta, guardò la sua padrona con disprezzo. 5 Sarai disse ad Abramo: «L’offesa fatta a me ricada su di te! Io ti ho dato la mia serva in seno e, da quando si è accorta di essere incinta, mi guarda con disprezzo. Il Signore sia giudice fra me e te». 6 Abramo rispose a Sarai: «Ecco, la tua serva è in tuo potere; falle ciò che vuoi». Sarai la trattò duramente e quella se ne fuggì da lei. 7 L’angelo del Signore la trovò presso una sorgente d’acqua, nel deserto, presso la sorgente che è sulla via di Sur, 8 e le disse: «Agar, serva di Sarai, da dove vieni e dove vai?» Lei rispose: «Fuggo dalla presenza di Sarai, mia padrona». 9 L’angelo del Signore le disse: «Torna dalla tua padrona e umiliati sotto la sua mano». 10 L’angelo del Signore soggiunse: «Io moltiplicherò grandemente la tua discendenza e non la si potrà contare, tanto sarà numerosa». 11 L’angelo del Signore le disse ancora: «Ecco, tu sei incinta e partorirai un figlio al quale porrai nome Ismaele^[1], perché il Signore ti ha udita nella tua afflizione; 12 egli sarà tra gli uomini come un asino selvatico; la sua mano sarà contro tutti, e la mano di tutti contro di lui; e abiterà di fronte a tutti i suoi fratelli». 13 Allora Agar diede al Signore, che le aveva parlato, il nome di Atta-El-Roi^[2], perché disse: «Ho io, proprio qui, veduto andarsene colui che mi ha vista?» 14 Perciò quel pozzo fu chiamato il pozzo di Lacai-Roi^[3]. Ecco, esso è tra Cades e Bered. 15 Agar partorì un figlio ad Abramo. Al figlio che Agar gli aveva partorito Abramo mise il nome d’Ismaele. 16 Abramo aveva ottantasei anni quando Agar gli partorì Ismaele.

Abram und Sarai werden ungeduldig

1-2 Abram und Sarai konnten keine Kinder bekommen, da Sarai unfruchtbar war. Eines Tages schlug sie ihrem Mann vor: »Du weißt, dass der HERR mir Kinder versagt hat. Aber nach den geltenden Gesetzen kannst du mir durch eine Sklavin Kinder schenken. Darum überlasse ich dir meine ägyptische Magd Hagar. Vielleicht werde ich durch sie doch noch Nachwuchs bekommen!« Abram war einverstanden, 3 und Sarai gab ihm die Ägypterin Hagar zur Nebenfrau, die ihr als Sklavin diente. Sie lebten zu der Zeit schon zehn Jahre im Land Kanaan. 4 Abram schlief mit Hagar, und sie wurde schwanger. Als Hagar wusste, dass sie ein Kind erwartete, sah sie auf ihre Herrin herab. 5 Da beklagte Sarai sich bei Abram: »Jetzt, wo Hagar weiß, dass sie schwanger ist, verachtet sie mich – dabei war ich es, die sie dir überlassen hat! Du bist schuld, dass ich jetzt so gedemütigt werde! Der HERR soll entscheiden, wer von uns beiden im Recht ist!« 6 »Sie ist dein Eigentum«, erwiderte Abram, »ich lasse dir freie Hand – mach mit ihr, was du willst!« In der folgenden Zeit behandelte Sarai Hagar so schlecht, dass sie davonlief. 7 Der Engel des HERRN fand sie an einer Wasserstelle in der Wüste auf dem Weg nach Schur 8 und fragte sie: »Hagar, du Sklavin von Sarai, woher kommst du und wohin gehst du?« »Ich bin auf der Flucht vor meiner Herrin Sarai«, antwortete sie. 9 Da sagte der Engel des HERRN zu ihr: »Geh zu ihr zurück. Bleib ihre Sklavin und ordne dich ihr unter! 10 Ich werde dir so viele Nachkommen schenken, dass man sie nicht mehr zählen kann! 11 Du bist schwanger und wirst bald einen Sohn bekommen. Nenne ihn Ismael (›Gott hört‹), denn der HERR hat gehört, wie du gelitten hast. 12 Dein Sohn wird wie ein wildes Tier sein, das niemand bändigen kann. Er wird mit jedem kämpfen und jeder mit ihm. Voller Trotz bietet er seinen Verwandten die Stirn.« 13 Da rief Hagar aus: »Ich bin tatsächlich dem begegnet, der mich sieht!« Darum nannte sie den HERRN, der mit ihr gesprochen hatte: »Du bist der Gott, der mich sieht.« 14 Der Brunnen an dieser Stelle erhielt den Namen: »Brunnen des Lebendigen, der mich sieht«. Er liegt bekanntlich zwischen Kadesch und Bered. 15-16 Hagar ging wieder zurück. Sie bekam einen Sohn, und Abram nannte ihn Ismael. Abram war zu der Zeit 86 Jahre alt.

Sarai and Hagar

1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. She had a female Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar. (Gen 15,2; Gen 21,9; Ga 4,24) 2 And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children^[1] by her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. 3 So, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, and gave her to Abram her husband as a wife. (Gen 12,5) 4 And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.^[2] (1Sam 1,6) 5 And Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be on you! I gave my servant to your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May the Lord judge between you and me!” (Gen 31,53; 1Sam 24,12) 6 But Abram said to Sarai, “Behold, your servant is in your power; do to her as you please.” Then Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her. 7 The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. (Gen 25,18; Eso 15,22) 8 And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from my mistress Sarai.” 9 The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel of the Lord also said to her, “I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.” (Gen 17,20; Gen 21,18; Gen 25,12) 11 And the angel of the Lord said to her, “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael,^[3] because the Lord has listened to your affliction. (Gen 29,32) 12 He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.” (Gen 21,20; Gen 25,18; Giob 39,5) 13 So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,”^[4] for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”^[5] (Gen 32,30; Eso 19,21; Eso 33,20; Giudic 13,22)

15 And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

Agar e Ismael

1 Y Saray, mujer de Abram, no le daba hijos, pero ella tenía una sierva egipcia cuyo nombre era Agar. 2 Y dijo Saray a Abram: Mira ahora, YHVH me ha impedido tener hijos, te ruego que te llegues a mi sierva, quizás los obtenga de ella. Y oyó Abram la voz de Saray. 3 Y al cabo de diez años de habitar Abram en la tierra de Canaán, Saray, mujer de Abram, tomó a Agar la egipcia, su sierva, y la dio por mujer a su marido Abram, 4 y él se llegó a Agar y concibió. Sin embargo, cuando vio que había concebido, miraba con desprecio a su señora. 5 Entonces dijo Saray a Abram: ¡Mi afrenta sea sobre ti! Yo misma puse a mi sierva a tu disposición, y al ver que está encinta me mira con desprecio. Juzgue YHVH entre yo y tú. 6 Y dijo Abram a Saray: He aquí, tu sierva está en tus manos. Haz con ella lo que bien te parezca. Entonces Saray la afligió, y ella huyó de su presencia. 7 Pero el ángel de YHVH la halló junto a un manantial de aguas en el desierto (junto al manantial que está en el camino de Shur), 8 y le dijo: Agar, sierva de Saray, ¿de dónde vienes y a dónde vas? Y ella respondió: Huyo de la presencia de mi señora Saray. 9 Entonces le dijo el ángel de YHVH: Vuelve a tu señora y humíllate bajo sus manos. 10 Y le dijo el ángel de YHVH: Multiplicaré en gran manera tu descendencia, y debido a su multitud, no se podrá contar. 11 También le dijo el ángel de YHVH: He aquí estás encinta y darás a luz un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Ismael, porque YHVH ha escuchado tu aflicción. 12 Y él será un hombre como el asno salvaje. Su mano estará contra todos, y la mano de todos contra él, y vivirá enfrentado a todos sus hermanos. 13 Y llamó el nombre de YHVH (quien hablaba con ella): Ata-’El-Roí, porque dijo: ¿No he visto aquí yo también las espaldas de Aquél que me ve? 14 Por eso llamó al pozo: Beer-Lajay-Roí. He aquí está entre Cades y Bered. 15 Y Agar dio a luz un hijo a Abram, y Abram llamó Ismael al hijo que Agar le había dado a luz. 16 Y era Abram de ochenta y seis años cuando Agar le dio a luz a Ismael.
