L’altare, il Mare di bronzo, le bacinelle e i vari utensili del tempio
1Poi fece un altare di bronzo, lungo venti cubiti, largo venti cubiti e alto dieci cubiti.2Fece pure il Mare di metallo fuso, che aveva dieci cubiti da un orlo all’altro; era di forma perfettamente rotonda, aveva cinque cubiti d’altezza, e una corda di trenta cubiti ne misurava la circonferenza.3Sotto l’orlo lo circondavano delle figure di buoi, dieci per cubito, facendo tutto il giro del Mare; erano disposti in due file ed erano stati fusi insieme con il Mare.4Questo posava su dodici buoi, dei quali tre guardavano a settentrione, tre a occidente, tre a mezzogiorno e tre a oriente; il Mare stava su di essi, e le parti posteriori dei buoi erano vòlte al centro.5Esso aveva lo spessore di un palmo; il suo orlo, fatto come l’orlo di una coppa, aveva la forma di un fiore di giglio; il Mare poteva contenere tremila bati.6Fece inoltre dieci conche, e ne pose cinque a destra e cinque a sinistra, perché servissero per le purificazioni; vi si lavava ciò che serviva agli olocausti. Il Mare era destinato alle abluzioni dei sacerdoti.7Fece i dieci candelabri d’oro, conformemente alle norme che li concernevano, e li pose nel tempio, cinque a destra e cinque a sinistra.8Fece anche dieci tavole, che pose nel tempio, cinque a destra e cinque a sinistra. E fece cento bacinelle d’oro.9Fece pure il cortile dei sacerdoti e il gran cortile con le sue porte, delle quali ricoprì di bronzo i battenti.10Pose il Mare al lato destro della casa, verso sud-est.11Curam fece pure i vasi per le ceneri, le palette e le bacinelle. Così Curam compì l’opera che aveva fatta per il re Salomone nella casa di Dio:12le due colonne, le due sfere dei capitelli in cima alle colonne, i due reticolati per coprire le due sfere dei capitelli in cima alle colonne,13le quattrocento melagrane per i due reticolati, a due file di melagrane per ogni reticolato, da coprire le due sfere dei capitelli in cima alle colonne;14e fece le basi e le conche sulle basi,15il Mare, che era unico, i dodici buoi sotto il Mare16e i vasi per le ceneri, le palette, i forchettoni e tutti gli accessori. Curam-Abi li fece per il re Salomone, per la casa del Signore, di bronzo tirato a lucido.17Il re li fece fondere nella pianura del Giordano, in un suolo argilloso, fra Succot e Sereda.18Salomone fece tutti questi utensili in così gran quantità che non se ne poté calcolare il peso del bronzo.19Salomone fece fabbricare tutti gli arredi della casa di Dio: l’altare d’oro, le tavole sulle quali si mettevano i pani della presentazione;20i candelabri d’oro puro, con le loro lampade, da accendere, secondo la norma stabilita, davanti al santuario;21i fiori, le lampade, gli smoccolatoi, d’oro del più puro;22i coltelli, le bacinelle, le coppe e i bracieri, d’oro puro. Quanto alla porta della casa, i battenti interni, all’ingresso del luogo santissimo, e le porte della casa, all’ingresso del tempio, erano d’oro.
1He made an altar of bronze, twenty cubits[1] long and twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high. (1Re 8,64; 2Re 16,14; 2Cr 7,7; 2Cr 8,12; 2Cr 15,8; Ez 43,13)2Then he made the sea of cast metal. It was round, ten cubits from brim to brim, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference. The gourds were in two rows, cast with it when it was cast.4It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The sea was set on them, and all their rear parts were inward.5Its thickness was a handbreadth.[3] And its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily. In these they were to rinse off what was used for the burnt offering, and the sea was for the priests to wash in. (1Re 7,38)7And he made ten golden lampstands as prescribed, and set them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north. (Eso 25,31; Eso 27,20; 1Re 7,49; 2Cr 4,20)8He also made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north. And he made a hundred basins of gold. (1Re 7,48; 2Cr 4,19)9He made the court of the priests and the great court and doors for the court and overlaid their doors with bronze. (1Re 6,36; 2Re 21,5; 2Cr 6,13)10And he set the sea at the southeast corner of the house. (1Re 7,39)11Hiram also made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of God: (1Re 7,13; 1Re 7,40)12the two pillars, the bowls, and the two capitals on the top of the pillars; and the two latticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars; (1Re 7,41)13and the 400 pomegranates for the two latticeworks, two rows of pomegranates for each latticework, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars. (1Re 7,20)14He made the stands also, and the basins on the stands, (2Cr 4,6)15and the one sea, and the twelve oxen underneath it.16The pots, the shovels, the forks, and all the equipment for these Huram-abi made of burnished bronze for King Solomon for the house of the Lord. (1Re 7,14; 1Cr 28,17; 2Cr 2,13; 2Cr 4,11)17In the plain of the Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah.[5]18Solomon made all these things in great quantities, for the weight of the bronze was not sought. (1Re 7,47)19So Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of God: the golden altar, the tables for the bread of the Presence, (2Cr 4,8)20the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold to burn before the inner sanctuary, as prescribed; (2Cr 4,7)21the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of purest gold;22the snuffers, basins, dishes for incense, and fire pans, of pure gold, and the sockets[6] of the temple, for the inner doors to the Most Holy Place and for the doors of the nave of the temple were of gold.
