Nascita di Beniamino; morte di Rachele
16Poi partirono da Betel. C’era ancora qualche distanza per arrivare a Efrata, quando Rachele partorì. Ella ebbe un parto difficile.17Mentre penava a partorire, la levatrice le disse: «Non temere, perché questo è un altro figlio per te».18Mentre l’anima sua se ne andava, perché stava morendo, chiamò il bimbo Ben-Oni[3]; ma il padre lo chiamò Beniamino[4].19Rachele dunque morì e fu sepolta sulla via di Efrata, cioè di Betlemme.20Giacobbe eresse una pietra commemorativa sulla tomba di lei. The Deaths of Rachel and Isaac
16Then they journeyed from Bethel. Rahels Tod
16Danach verließen sie Bethel und zogen weiter. Als sie nur noch ein kurzes Stück von Efrata entfernt waren, setzten bei Rahel starke Geburtswehen ein.17Sie krümmte sich vor Schmerzen, doch die Hebamme rief ihr zu: »Nur Mut, du hast wieder einen Sohn!«18Aber Rahel spürte, dass sie sterben musste. Darum nannte sie den Jungen Benoni (»Schmerzenskind«), Jakob jedoch gab ihm den Namen Benjamin (»Glückskind«).19Rahel starb, und Jakob begrub sie an der Straße nach Efrata, das jetzt Bethlehem heißt.20Dort errichtete er einen Gedenkstein, der bis heute die Stelle markiert, wo Rahel begraben liegt.21Dann zog Jakob mit seiner Familie weiter und schlug seine Zelte hinter Migdal-Eder auf.

Isaaks Tod
27Jakob zog weiter zu seinem Vater Isaak nach Mamre bei Kirjat-Arba, das heute Hebron heißt. Dort hatte schon Abraham gewohnt.28-29Isaak starb im Alter von 180 Jahren nach einem langen und erfüllten Leben und wurde im Tod mit seinen Vorfahren vereint. Seine Söhne Esau und Jakob begruben ihn.
