Riconciliazione di Giacobbe con Esaù

1 Giacobbe alzò gli occhi, guardò, ed ecco Esaù che veniva avendo con sé quattrocento uomini. Allora divise i figli tra Lea, Rachele e le due serve. 2 Mise davanti le serve e i loro figli, poi Lea e i suoi figli, e infine Rachele e Giuseppe. 3 Egli stesso passò davanti a loro, e s’inchinò fino a terra sette volte, finché si fu avvicinato a suo fratello. 4 Ed Esaù gli corse incontro, lo abbracciò, gli si gettò al collo, lo baciò e piansero. 5 Poi Esaù, alzando gli occhi, vide le donne e i bambini, e disse: «Chi sono questi che hai con te?» Giacobbe rispose: «Sono i figli che Dio si è compiaciuto di dare al tuo servo». 6 Allora le serve si avvicinarono con i loro figli e s’inchinarono. 7 Si avvicinarono anche Lea e i suoi figli e s’inchinarono. Poi si avvicinarono Giuseppe e Rachele e s’inchinarono. 8 Allora Esaù disse: «Che ne vuoi fare di tutta quella schiera che ho incontrato?» Giacobbe rispose: «È per trovare grazia agli occhi del mio signore». 9 Ed Esaù: «Io ho molta roba, fratello mio; tieni per te ciò che è tuo». 10 Ma Giacobbe disse: «No, ti prego, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, accetta il dono dalla mia mano, perché io ho visto il tuo volto come uno vede il volto di Dio, e tu mi hai fatto buona accoglienza. 11 Ti prego, accetta il mio dono che ti è stato presentato, perché Dio è stato molto buono con me, e io ho di tutto». E tanto insistette che Esaù lo accettò. 12 Poi Esaù disse: «Partiamo, incamminiamoci, io andrò davanti a te». 13 Giacobbe rispose: «Il mio signore sa che i bambini sono in tenera età e che ho con me delle pecore e delle vacche che allattano; se si forzasse la loro andatura anche per un giorno solo, le bestie morirebbero. 14 Passi dunque il mio signore davanti al suo servo; e io me ne verrò pian piano, al passo del bestiame che mi precederà, e al passo dei bambini, finché arrivi presso al mio signore, a Seir». 15 Esaù disse: «Permetti almeno che io lasci con te un po’ della gente che ho con me». Ma Giacobbe rispose: «E perché questo? Basta che io trovi grazia agli occhi del mio signore». 16 Così Esaù, in quel giorno stesso, rifece il cammino verso Seir.

Giacobbe arriva in Canaan

17 Giacobbe partì alla volta di Succot, costruì una casa per sé e fece delle capanne per il suo bestiame; per questo quel luogo fu chiamato Succot^[1]. 18 Poi Giacobbe, tornando da Paddan-Aram, arrivò sano e salvo alla città di Sichem, nel paese di Canaan, e piantò le tende di fronte alla città. 19 Per cento pezzi di denaro comprò dai figli di Camor, padre di Sichem, la parte del campo dove aveva piantato le sue tende. 20 Eresse qui un altare e lo chiamò El-Eloè-Israel^[2].

Jakobs Versöhnung mit Esau

1 Und Jakob erhob seine Augen und sah; und siehe, Esau kam und mit ihm vierhundert Mann. Da verteilte er die Kinder auf Lea und auf Rahel und auf die beiden Mägde; (Gen 32,7) 2 und er stellte die Mägde und ihre Kinder vornan und Lea und ihre Kinder dahinter und Rahel und Josef zuletzt. 3 Er selbst aber ging vor ihnen her und warf sich siebenmal zur Erde nieder, bis er nahe an seinen Bruder herangekommen war. (Gen 18,2) 4 Esau aber lief ihm entgegen, umarmte ihn und fiel ihm um den Hals und küsste ihn; und sie weinten. (Gen 45,14; Gen 46,29; 1Sam 20,41) 5 Und er erhob seine Augen und sah die Frauen und die Kinder und sagte: Wer sind diese ⟨bei⟩ dir? Er sagte: Die Kinder, die Gott deinem Knecht aus Gnaden geschenkt hat. (Gen 48,9) 6 Da traten die Mägde heran, sie und ihre Kinder, und warfen sich nieder. 7 Und auch Lea trat heran und ihre Kinder, und sie warfen sich nieder. Und danach traten Josef und Rahel heran und warfen sich nieder. 8 Und er sagte: Was willst du mit diesem ganzen Lager, dem ich begegnet bin? Er sagte: Um Gunst zu finden in den Augen meines Herrn. (Gen 32,6) 9 Da sagte Esau: Ich habe genug, mein Bruder; es sei dein, was du hast. 10 Jakob aber sagte: Nicht doch; wenn ich überhaupt Gunst gefunden habe in deinen Augen, dann nimm mein Geschenk aus meiner Hand! Denn ich habe ja doch dein Angesicht gesehen, wie man das Angesicht Gottes sieht, und du hast Gefallen an mir gehabt. 11 Nimm doch mein Geschenk^[1], das dir überbracht worden ist! Denn Gott hat es mir aus Gnaden geschenkt, und ich habe alles. Und als er in ihn drang, da nahm er es. (Gen 32,14; 1Sam 25,27; 2Re 5,23) 12 Und Esau^[2] sagte: Lass uns aufbrechen und weiterziehen, und ich will vor^[3] dir herziehen. 13 Er aber sagte zu ihm: Mein Herr weiß^[4], dass die Kinder zart sind und dass säugende Schafe und Kühe bei mir sind^[5]; wenn man sie nur einen Tag zu schnell triebe, so würde die ganze Herde sterben. (Prov 12,10) 14 Mein Herr ziehe doch vor seinem Knecht hin! Ich aber, ich will einherziehen nach meiner Gemächlichkeit, nach dem Schritt des Viehs, das vor mir ist, und nach dem Schritt der Kinder, bis ich zu meinem Herrn nach Seïr komme. (Gen 32,4) 15 Da sagte Esau: Ich will doch von dem Volk, das bei mir ist, ⟨einige⟩ bei dir zurücklassen. Er aber sagte: Wozu das? Möge ich ⟨nur⟩ Gunst finden in den Augen meines Herrn! (Gen 32,6) 16 So kehrte Esau an diesem Tag auf seinem Weg nach Seïr zurück.

17 Und Jakob brach auf nach Sukkot und baute sich ein Haus, und seinem Vieh machte er Hütten; darum gab er dem Ort den Namen Sukkot^[6]. (Giudic 8,5; 1Re 7,46) 18 Und Jakob kam wohlbehalten^[7] zur Stadt Sichem, die im Land Kanaan ist, als er aus Paddan-Aram kam, und lagerte vor der Stadt. Jacob Meets Esau

1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants. (Gen 32,6) 2 And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all. 3 He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. (Gen 18,2; Gen 42,6; Gen 43,26) 4 But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. (Gen 32,28; Gen 45,14) 5 And when Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” (Gen 48,9; Sal 127,3; Is 8,18) 6 Then the servants drew near, they and their children, and bowed down. 7 Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down. 12 Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of^[2] you.” 13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die. 14 Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.” (Gen 32,3) 15 So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. (Gen 32,3) 17 But Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house and made booths for his livestock. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord. 16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir. 17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. 18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city. 19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem' father, for an hundred pieces of money. 20 And he erected there an altar, and called it Elelohe-Israel.
