Overcoming the World

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. (Jn 1,12; Jn 8,42; 1 Jn 2,22) 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. (1 Jn 2,5; 1 Jn 3,24; 1 Jn 4,13) 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. (Mt 11,30; Jn 14,15; 1 Jn 2,3; 2 Jn 1,6)

5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 Jn 4,15)

Testimony Concerning the Son of God

6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. (Jn 14,17; Jn 15,26; Jn 16,13; Sk 5,32; 1 Jn 5,8)

That You May Know

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death. (1 Jn 3,4) 18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. (Jn 1,18; Jn 17,12; 1 Jn 3,9) 19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (Lk 4,6; Gal 1,4) 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.
