1 Ein Psalm Davids. Gelobt sei der HERR, mein Fels. Er gibt mir Kraft zum Kampf und Gewandtheit in der Schlacht. (Ps 18,3)2 Er ist mein treuer Helfer und meine Burg, mein Schutz und mein Retter. Er steht vor mir wie ein Schild, ich flüchte mich zu ihm. Er unterwirft mir die Völker[1].3 HERR, was ist der Mensch, dass du ihn beachtest, und das Kind eines Menschen, dass du für es sorgst? (Ps 8,5)4 Denn er ist wie ein Hauch, sein Leben ist wie ein vorüberhuschender Schatten. (Hi 8,9; Hi 14,2; Ps 39,12; Ps 109,23)5 Neige den Himmel, HERR, und komm herab, berühre die Berge, sodass sie rauchen. (Ps 18,10; Jes 63,19)6 Lass deine Blitze los und zerstreue deine Feinde! Schieße deine Pfeile ab und verwirre sie! (Hab 3,11; Sach 9,14)7 Greif aus dem Himmel herab und rette mich aus tiefem Wasser, aus der Gewalt meiner Feinde. (Ps 18,45; Ps 69,2)8 Wenn sie reden, lügen sie, sie schwören, und sagen doch nicht die Wahrheit! (5Mo 32,40; Ps 12,3; Ps 41,7; Jes 44,20)9 Gott, ich will dir ein neues Lied singen! Ich will für dich auf der zehnsaitigen Harfe spielen. (Ps 40,4)10 Denn du schenkst Königen den Sieg! Du allein hast deinen Knecht David vor dem tödlichen Schwert seiner Feinde bewahrt. (2Sam 18,7; Ps 140,8)11 Befreie und rette mich aus der Gewalt meiner Feinde. Wenn sie reden, lügen sie und richten sich nicht nach der Wahrheit! (Ps 12,3; Jes 44,20)12 Unsere Söhne sollen in ihrer Jugend wie wohlgenährte Pflanzen gedeihen. Unsere Töchter sollen schön sein wie die Säulen, die zur Verschönerung von Palästen geschaffen wurden. (Ps 92,13; Spr 3,9; Hl 4,4; Hl 7,4)13 Unsere Scheunen sollen gefüllt sein mit Feldfrüchten aller Art. Die Herden auf unseren Weiden sollen sich vermehren um Tausende, ja um Zehntausende,14 und unsere Rinder sollen trächtig sein, ohne Schaden und Verlust. Dann wird es kein Klagen mehr auf unseren Straßen und Plätzen geben. (2Kön 25,11; Jes 24,11; Jer 14,2)15 Glücklich ist das Volk, dem es so ergeht. Glücklich ist das Volk, dessen Gott der HERR ist!

1 Give praise to the LORD, my Rock. He trains my hands for war. He trains my fingers for battle.2 He is my loving God and is like a fort to me. He is my place of safety and the God who saves me. He is like a shield that keeps me safe. He brings nations under my control.3 LORD, what are human beings that you take care of them? What are mere people that you think about them?4 Their lives don’t last any longer than a breath. Their days are like a shadow that quickly disappears.5 LORD, open up your heavens and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will pour out smoke.6 Send flashes of lightning and scatter my enemies. Shoot your arrows and chase them away.7 My enemies are like a mighty flood. Reach down from heaven and save me. Save me from outsiders who attack me.8 They tell all kinds of lies with their mouths. Even when they make a promise by raising their right hands, they don’t mean it.9 My God, I will sing a new song to you. I will make music to you on a lyre that has ten strings.10 You are the God who helps kings win battles. You save your servant David. From death by the sword11 save me. Set me free from outsiders who attack me. They tell all kinds of lies with their mouths. Even when they make a promise by raising their right hands, they don’t mean it.12 While our sons are young, they will be like healthy plants. Our daughters will be like pillars that have been made to decorate a palace.13 Our storerooms will be filled with every kind of food. The sheep in our fields will increase by thousands. They will increase by tens of thousands.14 Our oxen will pull heavy loads. None of our city walls will be broken down. No one will be carried off as a prisoner. No cries of pain will be heard in our streets.15 Blessed is the nation about whom all these things are true. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.
