1‘Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.2See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.3Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.4‘Lift up your eyes and look about you: all assemble and come to you; your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip.5Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come.6Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah. And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense and proclaiming the praise of the Lord.7All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will be accepted as offerings on my altar, and I will adorn my glorious temple.8‘Who are these that fly along like clouds, like doves to their nests?9Surely the islands look to me; in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,[1] bringing your children from afar, with their silver and gold, to the honour of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendour.10‘Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in anger I struck you, in favour I will show you compassion.11Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations – their kings led in triumphal procession.12For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly ruined.13‘The glory of Lebanon will come to you, the juniper, the fir and the cypress together, to adorn my sanctuary; and I will glorify the place for my feet.14The children of your oppressors will come bowing before you; all who despise you will bow down at your feet and will call you the City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.15‘Although you have been forsaken and hated, with no-one travelling through, I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations.16You will drink the milk of nations and be nursed at royal breasts. Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your Saviour, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.17Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler.18No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.19The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.20Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.21Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land for ever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendour.22The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the Lord; in its time I will do this swiftly.’
1Mach dich auf, werde licht! Denn dein Licht kommt, und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN ist aufgestrahlt über dir. (Isa 2:5; Isa 51:17; Lu 2:32)2Denn sieh, Finsternis bedeckt die Erde und Wolkendunkel die Völker, über dir aber wird der HERR aufstrahlen, und seine Herrlichkeit wird erscheinen über dir. (Isa 9:1; Isa 62:1)3Und Nationen werden zu deinem Licht gehen und Könige zu deinem strahlenden Lichtglanz. (Isa 2:2; Isa 66:20; Re 21:24)4Blicke auf, ringsum, und sieh: Alle haben sie sich versammelt, sind zu dir gekommen. Von ferne kommen deine Söhne, und deine Töchter werden auf der Hüfte getragen. (Isa 14:2; Isa 49:17)5Dann wirst du es sehen und strahlen, und dein Herz wird beben und sich öffnen, denn die Schätze des Meeres wenden sich dir zu, die Reichtümer der Nationen kommen zu dir. (Jer 33:9)6Eine Menge von Kamelen wird dich bedecken, die Kamelhengste von Midian und Efa, aus Saba kommen sie alle, und sie tragen Gold und Weihrauch und verkünden die Ruhmestaten des HERRN. (Ge 25:4; 1Ki 10:1; Jer 6:20)7Alle Schafe von Kedar werden sich bei dir versammeln, die Widder von Nebajot werden dir zu Diensten sein, zum Wohlgefallen werden sie auf meinen Altar kommen, und das Haus meiner Herrlichkeit werde ich verherrlichen. (Eze 21:16; Eze 27:21; Eze 42:11; Hag 2:7)8Wer sind diese? Sie fliegen wie eine Wolke und wie Tauben zu ihren Schlägen.9Denn auf mich hoffen die Inseln und die Tarschisch-Schiffe schon längst, um deine Kinder aus der Ferne zu bringen, ihr Gold und Silber ist bei ihnen, für den Namen des HERRN, deines Gottes, für den Heiligen Israels, denn er hat dich verherrlicht. (Isa 2:16; Isa 42:4; Isa 51:5; Isa 55:5)10Und Fremde werden deine Mauern bauen, und ihre Könige werden dir zu Diensten sein, denn in meinem Zorn habe ich dich geschlagen, in meinem Wohlwollen aber habe ich mich deiner erbarmt. (Zec 6:15)11Und allezeit werden deine Tore offenstehen, Tag und Nacht werden sie nicht geschlossen, damit man die Reichtümer der Nationen hineinbringt zu dir und ihre Könige, die vertrieben wurden. (Re 21:25)12Die Nation und das Königreich aber, die dir nicht dienen, werden untergehen, und die Nationen werden verheert! (Isa 41:11)13Die Herrlichkeit des Libanon wird zu dir kommen, Zypresse, Ulme und Wacholder allesamt, um die Stätte meines Heiligtums zu verherrlichen, und so werde ich die Stätte meiner Füsse ehren. (1Ki 5:22; Isa 35:2)14Die Kinder deiner Unterdrücker aber werden gebückt zu dir gehen, und alle, die dich geschmäht haben, werden sich zu deinen Füssen niederwerfen, dann wird man dich Stadt-des-HERRN nennen, Zion-des-Heiligen-Israels. (Isa 14:2; Isa 45:14; Re 3:9)15Statt dass du verlassen bist und verhasst und dass niemand hindurchzieht, werde ich dich zu immerwährendem Stolz machen, zur Freude von Generation zu Generation. (Isa 25:8; Isa 49:14)16Und du wirst die Milch der Nationen trinken, und an der Brust von Königen wirst du trinken. Dann wirst du erkennen, dass ich, der HERR, dein Retter bin, und dein Erlöser, der Starke Jakobs. (Isa 49:23; Isa 66:11)17Statt Bronze bringe ich Gold, und statt Eisen bringe ich Silber, und statt Holz Bronze und statt Steinen Eisen. Und Frieden mache ich zu deiner Wache und Gerechtigkeit zu deiner Obrigkeit. (Isa 14:26; Isa 55:13)18In deinem Land wird nichts mehr zu hören sein von Gewalttat, nichts von Verheerung und Zusammenbruch in deinen Grenzen, und deine Mauern wirst du Heil nennen und deine Tore Ruhm. (Isa 26:1)19Nicht mehr wird die Sonne für dich Licht sein am Tag, und nicht der Mond wird als Lichtglanz für dich leuchten: Der HERR wird ewiges Licht sein für dich und dein Gott deine Herrlichkeit. (Isa 24:23; Re 21:23; Re 22:5)20Deine Sonne wird nicht mehr untergehen, und dein Mond wird nicht verschwinden, denn der HERR wird ewiges Licht sein für dich, und die Tage deiner Trauer werden ein Ende haben. (Zec 14:7)21Und dein Volk, sie alle werden Gerechte sein und das Land für immer besitzen, als Spross meiner Pflanzung, als Werk meiner Hände, damit ich mich selbst verherrliche. (Am 9:15; Zep 3:13)22Der Kleinste wird zur Tausendschaft und der Geringste zur starken Nation. Überraschend werde ich, der HERR, es herbeiführen zu seiner Zeit. (Isa 54:1)
