1‘At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.2Five of them were foolish and five were wise.3The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.4The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.5The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.6‘At midnight the cry rang out: “Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!”7‘Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.8The foolish ones said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.”9‘ “No,” they replied, “there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.”10‘But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.11‘Later the others also came. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us!”12‘But he replied, “Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.”13‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
The parable of the bags of gold
14‘Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.15To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[1] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.16The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.17So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.18But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.19‘After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.20The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.”21‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”22‘The man with two bags of gold also came. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with two bags of gold: see, I have gained two more.”23‘His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”24‘Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. “Master,” he said, “I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.25So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.”26‘His master replied, “You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.28‘ “So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.29For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
The sheep and the goats
31‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.34‘Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”37‘Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?39When did we see you ill or in prison and go to visit you?”40‘The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”41‘Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was ill and in prison and you did not look after me.”44‘They also will answer, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or ill or in prison, and did not help you?”45‘He will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”46‘Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.’
1Atunci, Împărăția Cerurilor va fi asemănată cu zece fecioare care și‑au luat candelele și au ieșit în întâmpinarea mirelui.2Cinci dintre ele erau nesăbuite, iar cinci erau înțelepte.3Cele nesăbuite nu au luat cu ele și ulei atunci când și‑au luat candelele,4dar cele înțelepte, alături de candele, au luat cu ele și ulei în vase.5Mirele întârzia, astfel că ele au ațipit toate și au adormit.6La miezul nopții a răsunat un strigăt: „Iată mirele! Ieșiți‑i în întâmpinare!“7Atunci toate fecioarele acelea s‑au sculat și și‑au pregătit candelele.8Cele nesăbuite le‑au zis celor înțelepte: „Dați‑ne și nouă din uleiul vostru, pentru că ni se sting candelele!“9Dar cele înțelepte au răspuns, zicând: „Nu, ca nu cumva să nu ne ajungă nici nouă și nici vouă! Duceți‑vă, mai degrabă, la cei ce vând ulei și cumpărați‑vă!“10În timp ce se duceau să cumpere ulei, a venit mirele. Cele ce erau pregătite au intrat la nuntă împreună cu el, iar ușa a fost închisă.11Mai târziu au venit și celelalte fecioare și au zis: „Doamne, Doamne, deschide‑ne!“12Dar el, răspunzând, a zis: „Adevărat vă spun că nu vă cunosc.“13Prin urmare, vegheați! Căci nu știți nici ziua, nici ora când vine Fiul Omului.
Pilda talanților
14Căci va fi ca atunci când un om, urmând să plece într‑o călătorie, și‑a chemat sclavii și le‑a încredințat averile lui. (Lu 19:12)15Unuia i‑a dat cinci talanți[1], altuia – doi, iar altuia – unul, fiecăruia după puterea lui; apoi a plecat. Imediat, (Mt 20:2)16cel ce primise cinci talanți s‑a dus și a făcut negustorie cu ei și a câștigat alți cinci.17Tot așa, cel ce primise doi a câștigat și el alți doi.18Dar cel ce primise unul s‑a dus, a săpat o groapă în pământ și a ascuns acolo argintul stăpânului său.19După mult timp, stăpânul acelor sclavi a venit și a început să‑și încheie socotelile cu ei.20Cel ce primise cinci talanți s‑a apropiat și a adus încă cinci talanți, zicând: „Stăpâne, mi‑ai încredințat cinci talanți. Iată, am mai câștigat încă cinci!“21Stăpânul lui i‑a zis: „Bine, sclav bun și credincios! Ai fost credincios peste puține lucruri, te voi pune responsabil peste multe! Intră în bucuria stăpânului tău!“22S‑a apropiat apoi și cel ce primise doi talanți și a zis: „Stăpâne, mi‑ai încredințat doi talanți. Iată, am mai câștigat doi!“23Stăpânul lui i‑a zis: „Bine, sclav bun și credincios! Ai fost credincios peste puține lucruri, te voi pune responsabil peste multe. Intră în bucuria stăpânului tău!“24S‑a apropiat și cel ce primise un talant și a zis: „Stăpâne, am știut că ești un om aspru, care seceri de unde n‑ai semănat și aduni de unde n‑ai împrăștiat,25așa că mi‑a fost teamă și m‑am dus să‑ți ascund talantul în pământ. Iată aici talantul tău!“26Stăpânul lui, răspunzând, i‑a zis: „Sclav rău și leneș! Ai știut că secer de unde n‑am semănat și că adun de unde n‑am împrăștiat?27Atunci trebuia ca tu să‑mi fi pus arginții la zarafi, pentru ca, la întoarcere, să primesc cu dobândă ceea ce era al meu.28Așadar, luați‑i talantul și dați‑i‑l celui ce are zece talanți.29Căci celui ce are, i se va da mai mult și va avea din belșug, însă de la cel ce n‑are, se va lua chiar și ce are.30Iar pe sclavul acela nefolositor, alungați‑l în întunericul de afară! Acolo va fi plânsul și scrâșnirea dinților!“
Judecata finală
31Când Fiul Omului va veni în slava Sa, împreună cu toți îngerii, atunci El Se va așeza pe tronul slavei Sale32și toate neamurile vor fi adunate înaintea Lui. El îi va despărți pe unii de alții, așa cum păstorul desparte oile de capre[2]33și va pune oile să stea la dreapta Lui, iar caprele, la stânga.34Apoi Împăratul le va zice celor din dreapta Lui: „Veniți, binecuvântații Tatălui Meu! Moșteniți Împărăția care a fost pregătită pentru voi de la întemeierea lumii!35Căci Mi‑a fost foame și Mi‑ați dat să mănânc, Mi‑a fost sete și Mi‑ați dat să beau, am fost străin și M‑ați primit între voi,36am fost gol și M‑ați îmbrăcat, am fost bolnav și M‑ați vizitat[3], am fost în închisoare și ați venit la Mine.“37Atunci cei drepți Îi vor răspunde, zicând: „Doamne, când Te‑am văzut noi flămând și Ți‑am dat să mănânci, sau însetat și Ți‑am dat să bei?38Când Te‑am văzut noi străin și Te‑am primit între noi, sau gol și Te‑am îmbrăcat?39Și când Te‑am văzut noi bolnav sau în închisoare și am venit la Tine?!“40Iar Împăratul, răspunzând, le va zice: „Adevărat vă spun că, întrucât ați făcut așa unuia dintre acești frați ai Mei cei mai neînsemnați, Mie Mi‑ați făcut!“41Apoi le va zice celor din stânga: „Plecați de la Mine, blestemaților, în focul cel veșnic, care a fost pregătit pentru diavolul și pentru îngerii lui!42Căci Mi‑a fost foame și nu Mi‑ați dat să mănânc, Mi‑a fost sete și nu Mi‑ați dat să beau,43am fost străin și nu M‑ați primit între voi, am fost gol și nu M‑ați îmbrăcat, am fost bolnav și în închisoare și nu m‑ați vizitat!“44Atunci și ei vor răspunde, zicând: „Doamne, când Te‑am văzut noi flămând sau însetat sau străin sau gol sau bolnav sau în închisoare și nu Ți‑am slujit?!“45Atunci El le va răspunde, zicând: „Adevărat vă spun că, întrucât n‑ați făcut așa unuia dintre cei mai neînsemnați dintre aceștia, Mie nu Mi‑ați făcut!“46Și aceștia vor merge în pedeapsa veșnică, iar cei drepți vor merge în viața veșnică.
