1When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan.2Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.3Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?’4‘Haven’t you read,’ he replied, ‘that at the beginning the Creator “made them male and female,” (Ge 1:27)5and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh”? (Ge 2:24)6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no-one separate.’7‘Why then,’ they asked, ‘did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?’8Jesus replied, ‘Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.’10The disciples said to him, ‘If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.’11Jesus replied, ‘Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.12For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others – and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.’
The little children and Jesus
13Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.14Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’15When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.
The rich and the kingdom of God
16Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, ‘Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?’17‘Why do you ask me about what is good?’ Jesus replied. ‘There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.’18‘Which ones?’ he enquired. Jesus replied, ‘ “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,19honour your father and mother,”[1] and “love your neighbour as yourself.” ’ (Ex 20:12; Le 19:18; De 5:16)20‘All these I have kept,’ the young man said. ‘What do I still lack?’21Jesus answered, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.23Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, ‘Who then can be saved?’26Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’27Peter answered him, ‘We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?’28Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[2] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.30But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

(Mr 10:1; Lu 16:18)2L‑au urmat mulțimi mari de oameni și acolo El i‑a vindecat pe cei bolnavi.3Niște farisei au venit la El ca să‑L pună la încercare și au zis: – Îi este îngăduit unui bărbat să divorțeze de soția lui din orice motiv?4Isus, răspunzând, a zis: – Oare n‑ați citit că, de la început, Creatorul „i‑a făcut bărbat și femeie“[1]? (Ge 1:27)5Și apoi a zis: „De aceea bărbatul își va lăsa tatăl și mama și se va alipi de soția lui, iar cei doi vor fi un singur trup.“[2] (Ge 2:24)6Așa că nu mai sunt doi, ci un singur trup. Deci, ceea ce Dumnezeu a unit[3] omul să nu despartă!7Ei I‑au zis: – Atunci de ce a poruncit Moise ca soțul să‑i dea soției o scrisoare de despărțire și să divorțeze de ea[4]? (De 24:1)8Isus a zis: – Din cauza inimilor voastre împietrite v‑a dat voie Moise să divorțați de soțiile voastre, însă la început nu a fost așa.9Dar Eu vă spun că oricine divorțează de soția lui, în afară de caz de curvie[5], și se căsătorește cu alta, comite adulter.10Ucenicii I‑au zis: – Dacă acesta este motivul[6] bărbatului față de soție, nu este de folos să te căsătorești! (De 24:1)11Dar El le‑a zis: – Nu toți primesc cuvântul acesta, ci numai aceia cărora le‑a fost dat.12Căci există eunuci care s‑au născut așa din pântecul mamei lor, există eunuci care au fost făcuți eunuci de către oameni și există eunuci care s‑au făcut ei înșiși eunuci[7] de dragul Împărăției Cerurilor. Cel ce poate să primească cuvântul acesta, să‑l primească!
Isus și copilașii
13Atunci au fost aduși la El niște copilași, ca să‑Și pună mâinile peste ei și să Se roage pentru ei, dar ucenicii i‑au mustrat. (Mr 10:13; Lu 18:15)14Isus însă le‑a zis: „Lăsați copilașii și nu‑i opriți să vină la Mine, pentru că Împărăția Cerurilor este a celor ca ei!“15Apoi Și‑a pus mâinile peste ei și a plecat de acolo.
Isus și tânărul bogat
16Și iată că un om, apropiindu‑se de Isus, a zis: – Învățătorule, ce lucru bun să fac, ca să am viață veșnică? (Mr 10:17; Lu 18:18)17Isus i‑a zis: – De ce Mă întrebi despre „ce lucru bun“? Unul e Cel Ce este bun. Dar dacă vrei să intri în viață, păzește poruncile!18El i‑a zis: – Care? Isus a zis: – „Să nu ucizi“, „Să nu comiți adulter“, „Să nu furi“, „Să nu depui mărturie falsă“,19„Cinstește‑i pe tatăl tău și pe mama ta“[8] și „Să‑l iubești pe semenul tău ca pe tine însuți“[9]. (Ex 20:12; Le 19:18; De 5:16)20Tânărul I‑a spus: – Pe toate acestea le‑am păzit. Ce‑mi mai lipsește?21Isus i‑a spus: – Dacă vrei să fii desăvârșit, du‑te, vinde‑ți averile și dă săracilor, și vei avea astfel o comoară în ceruri. Apoi vino, urmează‑Mă!22Când a auzit cuvintele acestea, tânărul a plecat întristat, pentru că avea multe averi.23Isus le‑a zis ucenicilor Săi: – Adevărat vă spun, cu greu va intra cel bogat în Împărăția Cerurilor!24Din nou vă spun, este mai ușor să treacă o cămilă prin urechea acului, decât să intre cel bogat în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu!25Când au auzit lucrul acesta, ucenicii au rămas foarte uimiți și au zis: – Atunci cine poate fi mântuit?26Uitându‑Se la ei, Isus le‑a zis: – Lucrul acesta este imposibil pentru oameni, dar pentru Dumnezeu toate lucrurile sunt posibile.27Atunci Petru, răspunzând, I‑a zis: – Iată, noi am lăsat totul și Te‑am urmat. Noi ce vom avea?28Isus le‑a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că la reînnoirea tuturor lucrurilor, când Fiul Omului va sta pe tronul slavei Sale, voi, cei care M‑ați urmat, veți sta, de asemenea, pe douăsprezece tronuri și le veți judeca pe cele douăsprezece seminții ale lui Israel.29Și oricine își lasă case sau frați sau surori sau tată sau mamă sau soție sau copii sau ogoare de dragul Numelui Meu, va primi de o sută de ori mai mult și va moșteni viața veșnică.30Dar mulți dintre cei dintâi vor fi cei din urmă, iar cei din urmă vor fi cei dintâi.
