Jesus restores a demon-possessed man

1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.^[1] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no-one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No-one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!’ 8 For Jesus had said to him, ‘Come out of this man, you impure spirit!’ 9 Then Jesus asked him, ‘What is your name?’ ‘My name is Legion,’ he replied, ‘for we are many.’ 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. 11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, ‘Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.’ 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. 14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man – and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region. 18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis^[2] how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Jesus raises a dead girl and heals a sick woman

21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered round him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, ‘My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.’ 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed round him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.’ 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30 At once Jesus realised that power had gone out from him. He turned round in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ 31 ‘You see the people crowding against you,’ his disciples answered, ‘and yet you can ask, “Who touched me?” ’ 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’ 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher anymore?’ 36 Overhearing^[3] what they said, Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’ 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.’ 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, ‘Talitha koum!’ (which means ‘Little girl, I say to you, get up!’). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

Isus vindecă un om demonizat

(Isa 65:1; Mt 8:28; Lu 8:26) 2 Când a coborât Isus din barcă, L‑a întâmpinat imediat un om care ieșea din morminte și avea în el un duh necurat. 3 El își avea locuința în morminte și nimeni nu mai putea să‑l țină legat nici chiar cu un lanț. 4 Fusese de multe ori legat cu lanțuri și cu cătușe, dar rupsese lanțurile și sfărâmase cătușele și nimeni nu‑l putea stăpâni. 5 Toată noaptea și toată ziua era prin morminte sau prin munți, urlând și tăindu‑se cu pietre. 6 Când L‑a văzut pe Isus de departe, a alergat, I s‑a închinat 7 și a strigat cu glas tare, zicând: – Ce am eu de‑a face cu Tine, Isuse, Fiu al Dumnezeului cel Preaînalt? Te pun să juri pe Dumnezeu, să nu mă chinui! 8 Căci Isus îi zicea: „Duh necurat, ieși afară din acest om!“ 9 Isus l‑a întrebat: – Care‑ți este numele? El I‑a zis: – Numele meu este „Legiune“^[2], pentru că suntem mulți. 10 Și Îl ruga mult pe Isus să nu‑l trimită afară din ținutul acela.^[3] (Lu 8:31) 11 Acolo, pe munte, era o turmă mare de porci care pășteau. 12 Duhurile necurate L‑au rugat, zicând: – Trimite‑ne în porcii aceia, ca să intrăm în ei! 13 Și El le‑a dat voie. Duhurile necurate au ieșit din om și au intrat în porci. Atunci turma, în jur de două mii de porci, s‑a repezit pe râpă în jos, în mare; și s‑au înecat în mare. 14 Păzitorii lor au fugit și i‑au anunțat pe oameni în cetate și în cătune. Și aceștia au venit să vadă ce s‑a întâmplat. 15 Când au ajuns la Isus și l‑au văzut pe cel ce fusese demonizat, – pe cel ce avusese în el legiunea –, stând jos, îmbrăcat și întreg la minte, s‑au înspăimântat. 16 Cei ce văzuseră ce s‑a întâmplat cu cel ce fusese demonizat și cu porcii, le‑au istorisit totul. 17 Atunci ei au început să‑L roage pe Isus să plece din hotarele lor. 18 În timp ce Isus Se urca în barcă, cel ce fusese demonizat Îl ruga să‑l lase să rămână cu El, 19 dar Isus nu l‑a lăsat, ci i‑a zis: „Du‑te acasă, la ai tăi, și istorisește‑le cât de mult a făcut Domnul pentru tine și cum a avut milă de tine!“^[4] (Mr 1:44; Mr 5:43) 20 El a plecat și a început să proclame prin Decapolis^[5] cât de mult făcuse Isus pentru el. Și toți erau uimiți.

Vindecarea unei femei și învierea unei fetițe

21 După ce Isus a trecut iarăși cu barca de cealaltă parte, s‑a adunat la El o mare mulțime de oameni. Și El stătea lângă mare. (Mt 9:18; Lu 8:40) 22 A venit la El unul dintre conducătorii sinagogii, pe nume Iair. Când L‑a văzut, a căzut la picioarele Lui 23 și L‑a rugat fierbinte, zicând: „Fetița mea este pe moarte. Vino și pune‑Ți mâinile peste ea ca să fie vindecată și să trăiască!“ 24 Isus a plecat împreună cu el. Și o mare mulțime de oameni Îl urma și se îmbulzea în jurul Lui. 25 Era acolo o femeie care, de doisprezece ani, avea o scurgere de sânge. 26 Ea suferise multe din partea multor doctori și cheltuise tot ce avusese fără vreun folos, ba dimpotrivă, se îmbolnăvise mai rău. 27 Auzind despre Isus, a venit în mulțime prin spate și s‑a atins de haina Lui. 28 Căci își zicea: „Dacă aș atinge măcar hainele Lui, voi fi vindecată!“ 29 Imediat izvorul sângelui ei a secat și ea a simțit în trup că fusese vindecată de boala ei. 30 Isus Și‑a dat seama imediat că din El ieșise o putere și, întorcându‑Se spre mulțime, a întrebat: – Cine s‑a atins de hainele Mele? 31 Ucenicii I‑au zis: – Vezi că mulțimea se îmbulzește în jurul Tău, iar Tu întrebi: „Cine M‑a atins?!“ 32 El însă Se uita de jur‑împrejur ca s‑o vadă pe cea care făcuse lucrul acesta. 33 Atunci femeia, știind ce i se întâmplase, a venit înfricoșată și tremurând și a căzut înaintea Lui, spunându‑I tot adevărul. 34 Isus i‑a zis: „Fiică, credința ta te‑a vindecat! Du‑te în pace și fii vindecată de boala ta!“ 35 În timp ce El încă vorbea, au venit câțiva din casa conducătorului sinagogii și au zis: – Fiica ta a murit. De ce‑L mai deranjezi pe Învățător? 36 Dar Isus, fără să ia în seamă cuvintele lor, i‑a zis conducătorului sinagogii: – Nu te teme! Crede doar! 37 N‑a dat voie nimănui să‑L însoțească în afară de Petru, Iacov și Ioan, fratele lui Iacov. 38 Când au ajuns ei la casa conducătorului sinagogii, Isus a văzut acolo tulburare și pe cei ce plângeau și boceau mult. 39 El a intrat și le‑a zis: „De ce sunteți tulburați și plângeți? Copilul n‑a murit, ci doarme!“ 40 Ei însă râdeau de El. Isus i‑a scos pe toți afară, i‑a luat pe tatăl copilului, pe mama acestuia și pe cei ce erau cu El și a intrat acolo unde era copilul. 41 A apucat copilul de mână și i‑a zis: „Talita kum!“, care tradus înseamnă^[6]: „Fetițo, ție îți zic, scoală‑te!“ 42 Fetița s‑a ridicat imediat și a început să umble. Ea era în vârstă de doisprezece ani. Ei^[7] au înmărmurit de mirare. 43 Isus le‑a poruncit stăruitor ca nimeni să nu știe despre aceasta și a spus să i se dea fetiței să mănânce.
