1This is what the Lord says: ‘Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there:2“Hear the word of the Lord to you, king of Judah, you who sit on David’s throne – you, your officials and your people who come through these gates.3This is what the Lord says: do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.4For if you are careful to carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will come through the gates of this palace, riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by their officials and their people.5But if you do not obey these commands, declares the Lord, I swear by myself that this palace will become a ruin.” ’6For this is what the Lord says about the palace of the king of Judah: ‘Though you are like Gilead to me, like the summit of Lebanon, I will surely make you like a wasteland, like towns not inhabited.7I will send destroyers against you, each man with his weapons, and they will cut up your fine cedar beams and throw them into the fire.8‘People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another, “Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?”9And the answer will be: “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshipped and served other gods.” ’10Do not weep for the dead king or mourn his loss; rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled, because he will never return nor see his native land again.11For this is what the Lord says about Shallum[1] son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: ‘He will never return.12He will die in the place where they have led him captive; he will not see this land again.’13‘Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labour.14He says, “I will build myself a great palace with spacious upper rooms.” So he makes large windows in it, panels it with cedar and decorates it in red.15‘Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.16He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?’ declares the Lord.17‘But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.’18Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: ‘They will not mourn for him: “Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!” They will not mourn for him: “Alas, my master! Alas, his splendour!”19He will have the burial of a donkey – dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.’20‘Go up to Lebanon and cry out, let your voice be heard in Bashan, cry out from Abarim, for all your allies are crushed.21I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, “I will not listen!” This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me.22The wind will drive all your shepherds away, and your allies will go into exile. Then you will be ashamed and disgraced because of all your wickedness.23You who live in “Lebanon,[2]” who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labour! (1Ki 7:2)24‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord, ‘even if you, Jehoiachin[3] son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would still pull you off.25I will deliver you into the hands of those who want to kill you, those you fear – Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Babylonians.[4]26I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another country, where neither of you was born, and there you both will die.27You will never come back to the land you long to return to.’28Is this man Jehoiachin a despised, broken pot, an object no-one wants? Why will he and his children be hurled out, cast into a land they do not know?29O land, land, land, hear the word of the Lord!30This is what the Lord says: ‘Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah.’
1Așa vorbește DOMNUL: „Coboară‑te la palatul regelui lui Iuda și vestește acolo cuvintele acestea:2«Ascultă Cuvântul DOMNULUI, rege al lui Iuda, care stai pe tronul lui David, tu, slujitorii tăi și poporul care intră pe aceste porți.3Așa vorbește DOMNUL: ‘Faceți dreptate și judecată! Eliberați‑l din mâna asupritorului pe cel ce a fost jefuit! Nu nedreptățiți pe străin, pe orfan sau pe văduvă! Nu vărsați sânge nevinovat în locul acesta!4Căci dacă veți împlini poruncile acestea, atunci pe porțile acestui palat vor intra regi care stau pe tronul lui David, suiți în care și călare pe cai, atât ei, cât și slujitorii și poporul lor.5Dar dacă nu veți asculta de poruncile acestea, jur pe Mine Însumi, zice DOMNUL, că acest palat va ajunge o ruină.’»“6Căci așa vorbește DOMNUL cu privire la palatul regelui lui Iuda: „Deși ești pentru Mine ca Ghiladul, ca piscul Libanului, te voi face asemenea unui pustiu, asemenea unei cetăți fără locuitori!7Voi pune deoparte[1] împotriva ta niște distrugători, fiecare cu armele lui. Ei îți vor tăia cei mai frumoși cedri și‑i vor arunca în foc.8Multe neamuri vor trece pe lângă cetatea aceasta și se vor întreba unul pe altul: «De ce a făcut DOMNUL astfel acestei mari cetăți?»9Și li se va răspunde: «Pentru că a părăsit legământul cu DOMNUL, Dumnezeul său, s‑a închinat altor dumnezei și le‑a slujit.»10Nu‑l plângeți pe cel mort și nu‑l jeliți, ci plângeți‑l mai degrabă pe cel ce merge în captivitate, care nu se va mai întoarce și nu‑și va mai vedea țara de naștere.“
Mesaj către Iehoahaz
11Căci așa vorbește DOMNUL despre Șalum[2], fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda, care a domnit în locul tatălui său Iosia și care a plecat din locul acesta: „Nu se va mai întoarce niciodată,12ci va muri în locul în care l‑au dus în captivitate și nu va mai vedea țara aceasta.13Vai de cel care‑și zidește palatul cu nedreptate și odăile de sus cu injustiție, care‑și pune semenul să lucreze degeaba, fără să‑i dea plata.14El își zice: «Îmi voi zidi un palat mare, care să aibă odăile de sus spațioase!» Și astfel el îi face ferestre largi, îl plachează cu cedru și îl vopsește în purpuriu.15Te face să fii rege faptul că aduni fără încetare cedru? Oare tatăl tău nu mânca și nu bea și el? Și totuși el făcea judecată și dreptate, astfel încât toate îi mergeau bine.16El a judecat cauza săracului și a celui nevoiaș și toate îi mergeau bine. Oare nu tocmai lucrul acesta înseamnă a Mă cunoaște? zice DOMNUL.17Dar tu nu ai ochi și inimă decât pentru câștigul nedrept, pentru a vărsa sânge nevinovat, pentru a asupri și a tâlhări.“
Mesaj către Iehoiachim
18De aceea, așa vorbește DOMNUL despre Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda: „Nu‑l vor jeli, zicând: «Vai, fratele meu! Vai, sora mea!» Nu‑l vor jeli, zicând: «Vai, stăpâne! Vai, Maiestate!»,19ci va fi înmormântat ca un măgar: va fi târât afară și aruncat dincolo de porțile Ierusalimului.20Suie‑te pe Liban și strigă! Înalță‑ți glasul în Bașan, strigă de pe Abarim, căci toți iubiții[3] tăi sunt zdrobiți.21Ți‑am vorbit când îți mergea bine, dar tu ai zis: «Nu voi asculta!» Aceasta a fost calea ta încă din tinerețe, căci nu ai ascultat de glasul Meu!22Vântul îi va împrăștia pe toți păstorii tăi, iar iubiții tăi vor merge în captivitate. Atunci vei fi dat de rușine și umilit din cauza întregii tale răutăți.23Tu, care locuiești în Liban[4], care îți ai cuibul între cedri, o, cum vei mai suspina când te vor ajunge durerile, dureri ca ale unei femei în chinurile nașterii! Mesaj către Iehoiachin
24Viu sunt Eu, zice DOMNUL, căci, chiar dacă tu, Iehoiachin, fiul lui Iehoiachim, regele lui Iuda, ai fi un inel cu sigiliu în mâna Mea cea dreaptă, și de acolo te‑aș scoate!25Te voi da în mâinile celor ce caută să‑ți ia viața, în mâinile celor de care ți‑e frică, în mâinile lui Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, și în mâinile caldeenilor.26Te voi arunca împreună cu mama ta, care te‑a născut, într‑o altă țară, unde nu v‑ați născut, și acolo veți muri.27Nu vă veți mai întoarce în țara în care doriți să vă întoarceți.“28Este oare acest om, Iehoiachin, un vas disprețuit și sfărâmat, pe care nu‑l mai dorește nimeni? De ce sunt aruncați oare, el și sămânța[5] lui, într‑o țară pe care n‑o cunosc?29O, țară, țară, țară, ascultă Cuvântul DOMNULUI!30Așa vorbește DOMNUL: „Înscrieți‑l în sul pe omul acesta ca pe unul lipsit de copii, un om care nu va prospera de‑a lungul zilelor lui, căci niciun bărbat din sămânța lui nu va mai reuși să șadă pe tronul lui David sau să stăpânească în Iuda.
