1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.4We write this to make our[1] joy complete.
Light and darkness, sin and forgiveness
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[2] sin.8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
1Ceea ce era de la început, ceea ce am auzit, ceea ce am văzut cu ochii noștri, ceea ce am privit și ceea ce mâinile noastre au atins cu privire la Cuvântul vieții[1]2– căci viața a fost arătată, iar noi am văzut și mărturisim și vă vestim viața veșnică care era cu Tatăl și care ne‑a fost arătată –3deci ceea ce am văzut și am auzit, vă vestim și vouă, pentru ca și voi să aveți părtășie cu noi. Și părtășia noastră este cu Tatăl și cu Fiul Său, Isus Cristos.4Scriem aceste lucruri pentru ca bucuria noastră[2] să fie deplină.
Umblând în lumină
5Și acesta este mesajul pe care l‑am auzit de la El și pe care vi‑l vestim: Dumnezeu este lumină și în El nu este nicio urmă de întunecime[3]. (1Jo 2:8; 1Jo 2:11)6Dacă spunem că avem părtășie cu El, dar umblăm în întuneric, mințim și nu trăim[4] adevărul.7Dacă însă umblăm în lumină, după cum El este în lumină, avem părtășie unii cu alții, iar sângele lui Isus, Fiul Său, ne curățește de orice păcat.8Dacă zicem că nu avem păcat, ne ducem în rătăcire[5] pe noi înșine și adevărul nu este în noi.9Dacă ne mărturisim păcatele, El este credincios și drept să ne ierte păcatele și să ne curățească de orice nedreptate.10Dacă zicem că n‑am păcătuit, Îl facem mincinos, și Cuvântul Lui nu este în noi.
