Psalm 54

New International Version

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, ‘Is not David hiding among us?’

1 Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might.^[1] 2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. 3 Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me – people without regard for God.^[2] 4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. 5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them. 6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good. 7 You have delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us? Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength. 2 Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. 3 For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah. 4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul. 5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth. 6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good. 7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

(1Sa 23:19; 1Sa 26:1) 3 Gott, durch deinen Namen rette mich und schaffe mir Recht durch deine Macht! (Ps 20:2; Ps 43:1) 4 Gott, höre mein Gebet, nimm zu Ohren die Reden meines Mundes! (Ps 17:1) 5 Denn Fremde sind gegen mich aufgestanden, und Gewalttätige trachten nach meinem Leben; sie haben Gott nicht vor sich gestellt. // (Ps 86:14) 6 Siehe, Gott ist mir ein Helfer; der Herr ist der, der meine Seele stützt^[2].
