Psalm 4

New International Version

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.

1 Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods^[1]?^[2] 3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. 4 Tremble and^[3] do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. 5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the Lord. 6 Many, Lord, are asking, ‘Who will bring us prosperity?’ Let the light of your face shine on us. 7 Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. 2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. 3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. 8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

1 Dem Chorleiter. Mit Saitenspiel. Ein Psalm. Von David. 2 Wenn ich rufe, antworte mir, Gott meiner Gerechtigkeit! In Bedrängnis hast du mir Raum gemacht; sei mir gnädig und höre mein Gebet! (Ps 50:15) 3 Ihr Herrensöhne, wie lange ⟨bleibt⟩ meine Ehre zur Schande ⟨verkehrt⟩, werdet ihr Eitles lieben und Lüge suchen? // (Ps 49:3; Ps 62:10) 4 Erkennt doch, dass der HERR^[1] einen Getreuen für sich ausgesondert hat^[2]! Der HERR hört, wenn ich zu ihm rufe. (Ps 17:6) 5 Erbebt, aber sündigt nicht!
