1God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the ‘gods’:2‘How long will you[1] defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?[2]3Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.4Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.5‘The “gods” know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.6‘I said, “You are ‘gods’; you are all sons of the Most High.”7But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.’8Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.
1Ein Lied von Asaf. Gott steht auf inmitten der Götter[1], in ihrer Versammlung erhebt er Anklage: (Ps 58:2)2»Wie lange noch wollt ihr das Recht verdrehen, wenn ihr eure Urteile sprecht? Wie lange noch wollt ihr Partei ergreifen für Menschen, die sich mir widersetzen?3Verhelft den Wehrlosen und Waisen zu ihrem Recht! Behandelt die Armen und Bedürftigen, wie es ihnen zusteht!4Reißt sie aus den Klauen ihrer Unterdrücker!«5Aber sie handeln ohne Sinn und Verstand; sie irren im Dunkeln umher und sehen nicht, dass durch ihre Bosheit die Welt ins Wanken gerät.6Zwar hatte ich ihnen gesagt: »Ihr seid Götter!
