1When Baruch son of Neriah wrote on a scroll the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch:2‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:3You said, “Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.”4But the Lord has told me to say to you, “This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the earth.5Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.” ’

Regierungsjahr des judäischen Königs Jojakim, des Sohnes von Josia, sagte der Prophet Jeremia zu Baruch, dem Sohn von Nerija, der gerade Jeremias Botschaften auf eine Schriftrolle geschrieben hatte:2»So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels:3Baruch, du klagst: ›Ich unglücklicher Mensch! Leide ich nicht schon genug? Und nun lädt mir der HERR noch neuen Kummer auf! Vom vielen Seufzen bin ich völlig erschöpft und finde keine Ruhe!‹4Ich, der HERR, sage dir: Was ich in diesem Land aufgebaut habe, zerstöre ich wieder, und was ich eingepflanzt habe, reiße ich wieder aus!5Und da hoffst du, du könntest in Glück und Frieden leben? Erwarte nicht zu viel! Denn ich, der HERR, lasse Unheil über alle Menschen hereinbrechen. Doch eines verspreche ich dir: Wo immer du hingehst, wirst du mit dem Leben davonkommen!«
