1After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’2At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.3And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.4Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.5From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits[1] of God.6Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the centre, round the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and behind.7The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all round, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘ “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,” who was, and is, and is to come.’ (Isa 6:3)9Whenever the living creatures give glory, honour and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:11‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’

Vorspiel im Himmel (1): Der Schöpfer der Welt steht bereit, seine Herrschaft in der Welt endgültig durchzusetzen
2Sofort nahm der Geist von mir Besitz und ich sah: Im Himmel stand ein Thron, und auf dem Thron saß einer. (Re 1:10)3Er strahlte wie die Edelsteine Jaspis und Karneol. Über dem Thron stand ein Regenbogen, der leuchtete wie ein Smaragd.4Um den Thron standen im Kreis vierundzwanzig andere Throne, darauf saßen vierundzwanzig Älteste. Sie trugen weiße Kleider und goldene Kronen. (Isa 24:23; Re 5:5; Re 5:8; Re 5:10; Re 6:11; Re 7:11; Re 7:13; Re 11:16; Re 14:3; Re 19:4)5Von dem Thron gingen Blitze aus und dröhnende Donnerschläge. Vor dem Thron brannten sieben Fackeln, das sind die sieben Geister Gottes. (Ex 19:16; Eze 1:13; Zec 4:2; Zec 4:10; Re 1:4; Re 8:5; Re 11:19; Re 15:1; Re 16:18; Re 17:9)6Im Vordergrund war etwas wie ein gläsernes Meer, so klar wie Kristall. In der Mitte, in einem inneren Kreis um den Thron, waren vier mächtige Gestalten, die nach allen Seiten voller Augen waren. (Eze 1:22; Re 15:2)7Die erste sah aus wie ein Löwe, die zweite wie ein Stier, die dritte hatte ein Gesicht wie ein Mensch, und die vierte glich einem fliegenden Adler. (Eze 1:5; Eze 10:14)8Jede der vier Gestalten hatte sechs Flügel, die innen und außen mit Augen bedeckt waren. Tag und Nacht rufen sie unaufhörlich: »Heilig, heilig, heilig ist der Herr, der Gott, der die ganze Welt regiert, der war und der ist und der kommt!« (Isa 6:2; Eze 1:18; Eze 10:12)9-10Immer wieder riefen die vier mächtigen Gestalten Preis, Ehre und Dank aus für den, der auf dem Thron sitzt und in alle Ewigkeit lebt. Und jedes Mal, wenn sie das taten, warfen sich die vierundzwanzig Ältesten nieder vor dem, der auf dem Thron sitzt, und beteten den an, der in alle Ewigkeit lebt. Sie legten ihre Kronen vor dem Thron nieder und sagten:11»Würdig bist du, unser Herr und Gott, dass alle dich preisen und ehren und deine Macht anerkennen. Denn du hast die ganze Welt geschaffen; weil du es gewollt hast, ist sie entstanden.«
