1After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.4Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters – one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’6When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified.7But Jesus came and touched them. ‘Get up,’ he said. ‘Don’t be afraid.’8When they looked up, they saw no-one except Jesus.9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, ‘Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.’10The disciples asked him, ‘Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?’11Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’13Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
Jesus heals a demon-possessed boy
14When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.15‘Lord, have mercy on my son,’ he said. ‘He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water.16I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.’17‘You unbelieving and perverse generation,’ Jesus replied, ‘how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.’18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.19Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, ‘Why couldn’t we drive it out?’20-21He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’[1] (Mr 9:29)
Jesus predicts his death a second time
22When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.23They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.’ And the disciples were filled with grief.
The temple tax
24After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, ‘Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?’25‘Yes, he does,’ he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. ‘What do you think, Simon?’ he asked. ‘From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes – from their own children or from others?’26‘From others,’ Peter answered. ‘Then the children are exempt,’ Jesus said to him.27‘But so that we may not cause offence, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.’
Drei Jünger sehen Jesus in Herrlichkeit (Die »Verklärung«)
1Sechs Tage später nahm Jesus die drei Jünger Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes, den Bruder von Jakobus, mit sich und führte sie auf einen hohen Berg. Niemand sonst war bei ihnen. (Mt 26:37; Mr 5:37; Mr 9:2; Mr 13:3; Lu 9:28)2Vor den Augen der Jünger ging mit Jesus eine Verwandlung vor sich: Sein Gesicht leuchtete wie die Sonne und seine Kleider wurden strahlend weiß. (2Pe 1:16; Re 1:16)3Und dann sahen sie auf einmal Mose und Elija bei Jesus stehen und mit ihm reden.4Da sagte Petrus zu Jesus: »Wie gut, dass wir hier sind, Herr! Wenn du willst, schlage ich hier drei Zelte auf, eins für dich, eins für Mose und eins für Elija.«5Während er noch redete, erschien eine leuchtende Wolke über ihnen, und eine Stimme aus der Wolke sagte: »Dies ist mein Sohn, ihm gilt meine Liebe, ihn habe ich erwählt. Auf ihn sollt ihr hören!« (De 18:15; Mt 3:17)6Als die Jünger diese Worte hörten, warfen sie sich voller Angst nieder, das Gesicht zur Erde.7Aber Jesus trat zu ihnen, berührte sie und sagte: »Steht auf, habt keine Angst!«8Als sie aufblickten, sahen sie nur noch Jesus allein.9Während sie den Berg hinunterstiegen, befahl er ihnen: »Sprecht zu niemand über das, was ihr gesehen habt, bis der Menschensohn vom Tod auferweckt ist.« (Mr 9:9)
Elija und der Täufer Johannes
10Die drei Jünger fragten Jesus: »Warum behaupten die Gesetzeslehrer, dass vor dem Ende erst noch Elija wiederkommen muss?« (Mal 3:23; Mt 16:14; Mr 9:11; Sir 48:10)11Jesus sagte: »Gewiss, Elija kommt und wird das ganze Volk Gottes wiederherstellen.12Aber ich sage euch: Elija ist schon gekommen; doch niemand hat ihn erkannt, sondern sie haben mit ihm gemacht, was sie wollten. So wird auch der Menschensohn durch sie zu leiden haben.« (Mt 11:14)13Da verstanden die Jünger, dass er vom Täufer Johannes sprach.
Mangelndes Vertrauen
14Als sie zu der Volksmenge zurückkehrten, kam ein Mann zu Jesus, warf sich vor ihm auf die Knie (Mr 9:14; Lu 9:37)15und sagte: »Herr, hab Erbarmen mit meinem Sohn! Er leidet an Epilepsie und hat so furchtbare Anfälle, dass er oft ins Feuer oder auch ins Wasser fällt.16Ich habe ihn zu deinen Jüngern gebracht, aber sie konnten ihn nicht heilen.«17Da sagte Jesus: »Was seid ihr doch für eine verkehrte Generation, die Gott nichts zutraut! Wie lange soll ich noch bei euch aushalten und euch ertragen? Bringt den Jungen her!« (Mr 9:19)18Jesus sprach ein Machtwort zu dem bösen Geist, der den Jungen in seiner Gewalt hatte, und er verließ ihn. Der Junge war von da an gesund.19Später kamen die Jünger allein zu Jesus und fragten ihn: »Warum konnten wir den bösen Geist nicht austreiben?«20-21»Weil ihr Gott nicht genug vertraut«, sagte Jesus. »Ich versichere euch: Wenn euer Vertrauen auch nur so groß ist wie ein Senfkorn, dann könnt ihr zu dem Berg da sagen: ›Geh von hier nach dort‹, und er wird es tun. Dann wird euch nichts mehr unmöglich sein.«[1] (Mt 13:31; Mt 14:31; Mt 21:21)
Jesus kündigt zum zweiten Mal seinen Tod an
22Als Jesus und die Jünger wieder alle in Galiläa beisammen waren, sagte er zu ihnen: »Bald wird der Menschensohn nach dem Willen Gottes an die Menschen ausgeliefert. (Mt 28:6; Mr 8:31; Mr 9:30; Lu 9:43)23Sie werden ihn töten, doch am dritten Tag wird er auferweckt werden.« Da wurden sie sehr traurig.
Über die Tempelsteuer
24Als sie nach Kafarnaum zurückgekehrt waren, kamen die Kassierer der Tempelsteuer zu Petrus und fragten ihn: »Zahlt euer Lehrer nicht das Doppel-Silberstück als Tempelsteuer?« (Ex 30:13)25»Doch!«, sagte Petrus. Als er dann ins Haus hineinging, fragte ihn Jesus, noch bevor Petrus etwas von dem Vorfall erzählen konnte: »Was meinst du, Simon? Von wem nehmen die Könige der Erde Zölle oder Steuern? Von ihren eigenen Söhnen oder von ihren Untertanen?«26»Von den Untertanen«, antwortete Petrus. Jesus sagte: »Das heißt also, dass die Söhne nichts zu zahlen brauchen!27Aber wir wollen sie nicht unnötig verärgern. Geh an den See und wirf die Angel aus. Nimm den ersten Fisch, den du fängst, und öffne ihm das Maul. Du wirst darin ein Vierfach-Silberstück finden. Nimm es und bezahle damit die Steuer für mich und für dich!«
