1After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant:2‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the River Jordan into the land I am about to give to them – to the Israelites.3I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.4Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates – all the Hittite country – to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.5No-one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.6Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.7‘Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.8Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’10So Joshua ordered the officers of the people:11‘Go through the camp and tell the people, “Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.” ’12But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,13‘Remember the command that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you after he said, “The Lord your God will give you rest by giving you this land.”14Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, ready for battle, must cross over ahead of your fellow Israelites. You are to help them15until the Lord gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you east of the Jordan towards the sunrise.’16Then they answered Joshua, ‘Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.17Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses.18Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey it, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!’
1Nachdem Mose, der Bevollmächtigte des HERRN, gestorben war, sagte der HERR zu Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, dem Helfer Moses: (Nu 27:18)2»Mein Diener Mose ist tot. Nun mach dich auf und zieh mit dem ganzen Volk über den Jordan in das Land, das ich euch geben will! Führe das ganze Volk Israel über den Jordan!3Jeden Fleck Erde, den ihr betreten werdet, gebe ich euch, wie ich es Mose versprochen habe. (De 11:24)4Euer Gebiet soll von der Wüste im Süden bis zum Libanongebirge im Norden reichen, es soll nach Osten zu das ganze Land der Hetiter bis zum Eufrat einschließen; im Westen erstreckt es sich bis zum Mittelmeer.5Kein Feind wird sich gegen dich behaupten können; denn ich werde dir dein Leben lang zur Seite stehen, genauso wie ich Mose zur Seite gestanden habe. Niemals werde ich dir meine Hilfe entziehen, nie dich im Stich lassen.6Sei mutig und entschlossen! Du wirst diesem Volk das Land, das ich ihren Vorfahren mit einem Eid zugesagt habe, als bleibenden Besitz zuteilen. (Ge 12:7; De 31:7)7Halte dich mutig und entschlossen an das, was mein Diener Mose gesagt hat! Befolge mein Gesetz, das er dir übergeben hat, und lass nicht das Geringste davon außer Acht; dann wird dir alles gelingen, was du unternimmst.8Sprich die Weisungen aus meinem Gesetzbuch ständig vor dich hin und denke Tag und Nacht darüber nach, damit dein ganzes Tun an meinen Geboten ausgerichtet ist. Dann wirst du Erfolg haben und wirst alles, was du beginnst, glücklich vollenden. (De 17:9; 2Ch 17:9; Ne 8:1; Ne 8:18)9Ich sage dir noch einmal: Sei mutig und entschlossen! Hab keine Angst und lass dich durch nichts erschrecken; denn ich, der HERR, dein Gott, bin bei dir, wohin du auch gehst!«
Josua bereitet den Einmarsch vor
10-11Darauf ließ Josua die Aufseher durch das Lager gehen und überall bekannt machen: »In drei Tagen werden wir den Jordan überschreiten und das Land in Besitz nehmen, das der HERR uns geben will. Bereitet genügend Verpflegung für den Marsch vor!«12Zu den Stämmen Ruben und Gad und dem halben Stamm Manasse sagte Josua: (Nu 32:6; De 3:18; Jos 4:12)13»Mose, der Bevollmächtigte des HERRN, hat euch zugesagt: ›Der HERR, euer Gott, gibt euch auf dieser Seite des Jordans eure Heimat.‹ Denkt nun daran, was er euch damals befohlen hat!14Eure Frauen und Kinder und eure Herden können auf dieser Seite des Jordans bleiben, aber alle eure wehrfähigen Männer müssen an der Spitze ihrer Brüder, der anderen Israeliten, über den Jordan ziehen und ihnen helfen,15das Land einzunehmen, das der HERR, euer Gott, ihnen geben will. Erst wenn der HERR euren Brüdern so wie euch eine Heimat gegeben hat, könnt ihr zurückkommen und euch hier in dem Land östlich des Jordans ansiedeln, das euch Mose zugesprochen hat.«16Sie antworteten Josua: »Wir wollen alles tun, was du uns gesagt hast, und überall hingehen, wohin du uns schickst.17Wir werden dir gehorchen, so wie wir Mose gehorcht haben. Der HERR, dein Gott, stehe dir bei, wie er Mose beigestanden hat.18Jeder, der sich dir widersetzt und deinen Befehlen nicht folgt, muss mit dem Tod bestraft werden. Sei nur mutig und entschlossen!«
