1When Baruch son of Neriah wrote on a scroll the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch:2‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:3You said, “Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.”4But the Lord has told me to say to you, “This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the earth.5Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.” ’

Damals sagte Jeremia zu Baruch, dem Sohn von Nerija, der die Worte des Propheten nach dessen Diktat in die Buchrolle geschrieben hatte: (Jer 25:1; Jer 32:12)2»Der HERR, der Gott Israels, redet zu dir, Baruch, und sagt:3›Du klagst: Ich Unglücklicher! Angst und Sorge drücken mich nieder und der HERR fügt immer neue Drohungen hinzu.[1] Ich bin erschöpft von Stöhnen und finde keine Ruhe mehr!‹4Im Auftrag des HERRN sage ich dir: ›So spricht der HERR: Sieh her, auf der ganzen Erde lege ich in Trümmer, was ich aufgebaut habe, und reiße aus, was ich eingepflanzt habe. (Jer 1:10)5Und da willst du für dich ein Leben in Wohlstand und Sicherheit?[2] Verlange es nicht! Ich bringe Unglück über alle Menschen; dir aber gebe ich dein Leben als Beutestück, wohin du auch kommst. Das sage ich, der HERR.‹« (Jer 39:18; Jer 43:6)
