Esau’s descendants

1 This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom). 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite – 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. 6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. 8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. 9 This is the account of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir. 10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath. 11 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz. 12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah. 13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath. 14 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah. 15 These were the chiefs among Esau’s descendants: The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, 16 Korah,^[1] Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons of Adah. (1Ch 1:36) 17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath. 18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah. 19 These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their chiefs. 20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the region: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs. 22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam.^[2] Timna was Lotan’s sister. (1Ch 1:39) 23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. 24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. (This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs^[3] in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.) 25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. 26 The sons of Dishon^[4]: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. 27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. 28 The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29 These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.

The rulers of Edom

31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned: 32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah. 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king. 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king. 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king. 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad^[5] succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. (1Ch 1:50) 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.

1 Hier ist die Liste der Nachkommen^[1] Esaus, der auch Edom heißt: (1Ch 1:34) 2 Esau hatte drei Frauen aus dem Land Kanaan geheiratet: die Hetiterin Ada, eine Tochter Elons, die Hiwiterin Oholibama, eine Tochter Anas und Enkelin Zibons, (Ge 24:3) 3 sowie Basemat, eine Tochter Ismaëls und Schwester Nebajots. 4 Ada gebar Elifas, Basemat gebar Reguël, 5 und Oholibama gebar Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. Alle diese Söhne wurden Esau im Land Kanaan geboren. 6 Später zog Esau von seinem Bruder Jakob weg in ein anderes Land. Seine Frauen, seine Söhne und Töchter und alle seine Leute nahm er mit, ebenso seine Herden und seinen ganzen Besitz, den er im Land Kanaan erworben hatte. 7 Die beiden Brüder waren zu reich, um auf die Dauer zusammenbleiben zu können; es gab im Land nicht genügend Weide für ihre großen Viehherden. (Ge 13:6) 8 Deshalb nahm Esau – das ist Edom – seinen Wohnsitz im Bergland Seïr. 9 Dies ist die Liste der Nachkommen Esaus, des Stammvaters der Edomiter, die auf dem Bergland Seïr leben: 10 Von seinen Frauen Ada und Basemat hatte Esau je einen Sohn: Elifas und Reguël. 11 Elifas wurde der Vater von Teman, Omar, Zefo, Gatam und Kenas. 12 Seine Nebenfrau Timna gebar ihm außerdem noch Amalek. Diese alle stammen von Esaus Frau Ada ab. 13 Reguël wurde der Vater von Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa. Sie alle stammen von Esaus Frau Basemat ab. 14 Oholibama aber, die Tochter Anas und Enkelin Zibons, gebar Esau die Söhne Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. 15 Von Esau leiten sich die Stämme der Edomiter mit ihren Oberhäuptern her. Von Elifas, dem Erstgeborenen Esaus, stammen: Teman, Omar, Zefo, Kenas, 16 Gatam und Amalek.^[2] Sie alle gehen auf Esaus Frau Ada zurück. 17 Von Esaus zweitem Sohn Reguël stammen: Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa. Sie gehen auf Esaus Frau Basemat zurück. 18 Von Esaus Frau Oholibama, der Tochter Anas, stammen: Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. 19 Alle diese Stämme und ihre Oberhäupter sind Nachkommen Esaus. Sie bilden zusammen das Volk der Edomiter.

Die Nachkommen Seïrs

20-21 Die ursprünglichen Bewohner des Landes Edom sind Nachkommen des Horiters Seïr. Dessen Söhne waren: Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana, Dischon, Ezer und Dischan. Von ihnen leiten sich die Stämme der Horiter ab. (De 2:12; 1Ch 1:38) 22 Der Stamm Lotan verzweigt sich in die Sippen Hori und Hemam; auch die Stadt Timna gehört zu diesem Stamm.^[3] 23 Der Stamm Schobal verzweigt sich in die Sippen Alwan, Manahat, Ebal, Schefi und Onam. 24 Der Stamm Zibon verzweigt sich in die Sippen Aja und Ana. Ana war es, der in der Wüste eine Quelle^[4] fand, als er die Esel seines Vaters Zibon hütete. 25 Der Stamm Ana verzweigt sich in die Sippen Dischon und Oholibama. Oholibama war eine Tochter von Ana. 26 Der Stamm Dischon verzweigt sich in die Sippen Hemdan, Eschban, Jitran und Keran. 27 Der Stamm Ezer verzweigt sich in die Sippen Bilhan, Saawan und Akan. 28 Der Stamm Dischan verzweigt sich in die Sippen Uz und Aran. 29-30 Dies also sind die Stämme der Horiter im Land Seïr nach der Reihenfolge ihrer Stammväter: Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana, Dischon, Ezer, Dischan.

Die Könige der Edomiter

31 In der Zeit, bevor es in Israel einen König gab, herrschten über das Land Edom nacheinander^[5] die folgenden Könige: (1Ch 1:43) 32 Bela, der Sohn Beors, in der Stadt Dinhaba; 33 Jobab, der Sohn Serachs, aus der Stadt Bozra; 34 Huscham aus dem Gebiet des Stammes Teman; 35 Hadad, der Sohn Bedads, in der Stadt Awit; er besiegte die Midianiter in einer Schlacht auf dem Gebiet von Moab; 36 Samla aus der Stadt Masreka; 37 Schaul aus der Stadt Rehobot am Fluss; 38 Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors; 39 Hadad in der Stadt Pagu; seine Frau Mehetabel war eine Tochter Matreds und Enkelin Me-Sahabs.

Noch eine Stammesliste der Edomiter

40 Dies sind die Oberhäupter der Nachkommen Esaus, die auch ihren Stämmen und Städten den Namen gegeben haben: Timna, Alwa, Jetet, (1Ch 1:51) 41 Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, 42 Kenas, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiël und Iram. Dies sind die Stämme Edoms und ihre Wohnsitze in dem Land, das sie in Besitz genommen haben. Dies ist die Nachkommenschaft Esaus, von dem die Edomiter abstammen.
