1Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly – mere infants in Christ.2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.3You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?4For when one says, ‘I follow Paul,’ and another, ‘I follow Apollos,’ are you not mere human beings?5What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe – as the Lord has assigned to each his task.6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.7So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.8The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labour.9For we are fellow workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.11For no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.12If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,13their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.14If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.15If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved – even though only as one escaping through the flames.16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives among you?17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.18Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become ‘fools’ so that you may become wise.19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness’; (Job 5:13)20and again, ‘The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.’ (Ps 94:11)21So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours,22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas[1] or the world or life or death or the present or the future – all are yours,23and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
Der Personenkult beweist: Die Gemeinde ist noch nicht reif
1Zu euch, Brüder und Schwestern,[1] konnte ich bisher nicht reden wie zu Menschen, die von Gottes Geist erfüllt sind. Ich musste euch behandeln wie Menschen, die sich von ihrer selbstsüchtigen Natur leiten lassen[2] und im Glauben noch Kinder sind.2Darum gab ich euch Milch, nicht feste Nahrung, weil ihr die noch nicht vertragen konntet. Auch jetzt könnt ihr das noch nicht; (Heb 5:12; 1Pe 2:2)3denn ihr steht immer noch im Bann eurer selbstsüchtigen Natur. Ihr rivalisiert miteinander und streitet euch. Das beweist doch, dass ihr nicht aus dem Geist Gottes lebt, sondern eurer selbstsüchtigen Natur folgt und so handelt wie alle anderen Menschen auch! (1Co 1:10; Ga 5:19)4Wenn die einen sagen: »Ich gehöre zu Paulus«, und die andern: »Ich gehöre zu Apollos« – seid ihr da nicht immer noch die ›alten‹ Menschen?
Alle arbeiten am gleichen Werk
5Nun, was ist denn Apollos? Und was ist Paulus? Gottes Helfer sind sie, durch die ihr zum Glauben gekommen seid. Jeder von uns beiden hat von Gott seine besondere Aufgabe bekommen.6Ich habe gepflanzt, Apollos hat begossen; aber Gott hat es wachsen lassen. (Ac 18:4; Ac 18:11; Ac 18:24)7Es zählt also nicht, wer pflanzt oder wer begießt; es kommt alles auf Gott an, der es wachsen lässt.8Wir beide arbeiten an demselben Werk: der, der pflanzt, und der, der begießt; doch wird Gott jeden nach seinem persönlichen Einsatz belohnen. (1Co 4:5)
Die Gemeinde als Bau und die Verantwortung der Bauleute
9Wir sind also Gottes Mitarbeiter,[3] ihr aber seid Gottes Ackerland. Oder mit einem anderen Bild: Ihr seid Gottes Bau. (Mr 4:2; Eph 2:20; 1Pe 2:4)10Nach dem Auftrag, den Gott mir gegeben hat, habe ich wie ein umsichtiger Bauleiter das Fundament gelegt. Andere bauen nun darauf weiter. Aber jeder soll sehen, wie er weiterbaut!11Das Fundament ist gelegt: Jesus Christus. Niemand kann ein anderes legen. (Isa 28:16; Ac 4:11)12-13Es wird auch nicht verborgen bleiben, was jemand darauf baut, ob Gold, Silber oder wertvolle Steine, ob Holz, Schilf oder Stroh. Am Tag des Gerichts wird sich erweisen, ob es Bestand hat. Dann wird die Feuerprobe gemacht: Das Werk eines jeden wird im Feuer auf seinen Wert geprüft. (2Co 5:10)14Wenn das, was ein Mensch gebaut hat, die Probe besteht, wird er belohnt.15Wenn es verbrennt, wird er bestraft. Er selbst wird zwar gerettet, aber so, wie jemand gerade noch aus dem Feuer gerissen wird. (Jud 1:23)16Wisst ihr nicht, dass ihr als Gemeinde der Tempel Gottes seid und dass der Geist Gottes in euch wohnt? (1Co 6:19; 2Co 6:16; 1Pe 2:5)17Wer den Tempel Gottes zugrunde richtet, wird dafür von Gott zugrunde gerichtet. Denn der Tempel Gottes ist heilig, und dieser Tempel seid ihr.
Es gibt keinen Grund zur Verherrlichung von Menschen
18Niemand soll sich etwas vormachen! Wenn es welche unter euch gibt, die sich nach den Maßstäben dieser Welt für weise halten, müssen sie erst töricht werden nach diesen Maßstäben, um wirklich weise zu sein. (1Co 4:10)19Was die Menschen für Tiefsinn halten, ist in den Augen Gottes Unsinn. In den Heiligen Schriften heißt es: »Gott fängt die Klugen im Netz ihrer eigenen Schlauheit.« (Job 5:12; 1Co 1:20)20Und es heißt auch: »Der Herr kennt die Gedanken der Weisen und weiß, wie sinnlos sie sind.« (Ps 94:11)21Darum soll sich niemand etwas auf einen Menschen einbilden und mit dem von ihm bevorzugten Lehrer prahlen. Euch gehört doch alles,22ob es nun Paulus ist oder Apollos oder Petrus;[4] euch gehört die ganze Welt, das Leben und der Tod, die Gegenwart und die Zukunft. Alles gehört euch, (Ro 8:38)23ihr aber gehört Christus, und Christus gehört Gott. (Ro 14:7; 1Co 15:28)
