Psalm 142

New International Version

1 I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy.[1]2 I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.3 When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me.4 Look and see, there is no-one at my right hand; no-one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no-one cares for my life.5 I cry to you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me.7 Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.

Psalm 142

English Standard Version

1 A Maskil[1] of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer. With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord. (Ps 3:4; Ps 30:8; Ps 57:1)2 I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. (Ps 102:1; Isa 26:16)3 When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me. (Ps 77:3; Ps 140:5)4 Look to the right and see: there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for my soul. (Job 11:20; Ps 16:8; Ps 31:11; Ps 69:20; Jer 25:35)5 I cry to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” (Ps 14:6; Ps 16:5; Ps 27:13)6 Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low! Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me! (Ps 17:1; Ps 18:17; Ps 79:8)7 Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me. (Ps 13:6; Ps 143:11; Isa 42:7)
