Job 25

New International Version

from Biblica

Bildad

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied: 2 ‘Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven. 3 Can his forces be numbered? On whom does his light not rise? 4 How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure? 5 If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes, 6 how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot – a human being, who is only a worm!’

Job 25

English Standard Version

from Crossway

Bildad Speaks: Man Cannot Be Righteous

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: (Job 2:11) 2 “Dominion and fear are with God;[1] he makes peace in his high heaven. 3 Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise? (Job 19:12; Ps 103:21; Mt 5:45; Jas 1:17) 4 How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of woman be pure? (Job 4:17; Job 9:2; Job 14:1; Job 14:4; Job 15:14; Ps 130:3; Ps 143:2) 5 Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes; 6 how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!” (Job 9:14; Job 15:16; Job 35:8; Ps 22:6; Isa 41:14)
