1After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’2At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.3And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.4Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.5From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits[1] of God.6Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the centre, round the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and behind.7The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all round, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘ “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,” who was, and is, and is to come.’ (Isa 6:3)9Whenever the living creatures give glory, honour and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:11‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’
1När jag sedan tittade upp, såg jag en dörr som stod öppen till himlen. Och rösten som jag först hade hört, den som lät som en kraftig trumpetstöt, talade till mig och sa: ”Kom hit upp, så ska jag visa dig vad som måste hända i framtiden!”2I samma ögonblick kom Guds Ande över mig och jag såg en tron i himlen och någon som satt på den.3Han som satt på tronen gnistrade som en ädelsten, likt jaspis och karneol. Kring tronen var en regnbåge som lyste som smaragd,4och i en ring runt tronen stod 24 andra troner, där det satt 24 himmelska ledare. De var alla klädda i vita kläder, och hade kransar av guld på sina huvuden.5Från tronen kom det blixtar och mullrande åska, och alldeles framför tronen brann sju facklor, som representerar Guds sjufaldiga[1] Ande.6Framför tronen låg något som liknade ett hav av glas, klart som kristall. Fyra levande varelser som hade fullt med ögon både framtill och baktill, stod mitt framför, mitt bakom och på båda sidor om tronen.7Den första av dessa varelser såg ut som ett lejon, den andra liknade en ung tjur, den tredje hade en människas ansikte, och den fjärde var som en flygande örn.8Varje varelse hade sex vingar och var helt täckt med ögon, till och med på insidan av vingarna. Dag och natt säger de utan uppehåll:”Helig, helig, helig är Herren Gud, han som har all makt, han som finns till, alltid har funnits och alltid kommer att finnas.”9Och när dessa levande varelser ärar och hyllar och tackar honom som sitter på tronen och som lever i evighet,10faller de 24 himmelska ledarna ner och tillber inför honom som sitter på tronen och som lever i evighet. Och de 24 himmelska ledarna kastar sina kransar av guld framför tronen och säger:11”Vi hyllar dig, vår Herre och Gud, för du är värd att bli ärad. Du är mäktig, och du har skapat allt. Ja, genom din vilja skapades det och finns till.”
