I trust in him.’3He will certainly save you from hidden traps and from deadly disease.4He will cover you with his wings. Under the feathers of his wings you will find safety. He is faithful. He will keep you safe like a shield or a tower.5You won’t have to be afraid of the terrors that come during the night. You won’t have to fear the arrows that come at you during the day.6You won’t have to be afraid of the disease that attacks in the darkness. You won’t have to fear the plague that destroys at noon.7A thousand may fall dead at your side. Ten thousand may fall near your right hand. But no harm will come to you.8You will see with your own eyes how God punishes sinful people.9Suppose you say, ‘The LORD is the one who keeps me safe.’ Suppose you let the Most High God be like a home to you.10Then no harm will come to you. No terrible plague will come near your tent.11The LORD will command his angels to take good care of you.12They will lift you up in their hands. Then you won’t trip over a stone.13You will walk on lions and cobras. You will crush mighty lions and poisonous snakes.14The LORD says, ‘I will save the one who loves me. I will keep him safe, because he trusts in me.15He will call out to me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in times of trouble. I will save him and honour him.16I will give him a long and full life. I will save him.’

Il Signore, sicuro rifugio
1Chi abita al riparo dell’Altissimo riposa all’ombra dell’Onnipotente.2Io dico al Signore: «Tu sei il mio rifugio e la mia fortezza, il mio Dio, in cui confido!»3Certo egli ti libererà dal laccio del cacciatore e dalla peste micidiale.4Egli ti coprirà con le sue penne e sotto le sue ali troverai rifugio. La sua fedeltà ti sarà scudo e corazza.5Tu non temerai gli spaventi della notte, né la freccia che vola di giorno,6né la peste che vaga nelle tenebre, né lo sterminio che imperversa in pieno mezzogiorno.7Mille ne cadranno al tuo fianco e diecimila alla tua destra; ma tu non ne sarai colpito.8Basta che tu guardi, e con i tuoi occhi vedrai il castigo degli empi.9Poiché tu hai detto: «O Signore, tu sei il mio rifugio», e hai fatto dell’Altissimo il tuo riparo,10nessun male potrà colpirti, né piaga alcuna si accosterà alla tua tenda.11Poiché egli comanderà ai suoi angeli di proteggerti in tutte le tue vie.12Essi ti porteranno sulla palma della mano, perché il tuo piede non inciampi in nessuna pietra[1].13Tu camminerai sul leone e sulla vipera, schiaccerai il leoncello e il serpente.14Poiché egli ha posto in me il suo affetto, io lo salverò; lo proteggerò, perché conosce il mio nome.15Egli m’invocherà, e io gli risponderò; sarò con lui nei momenti difficili; lo libererò e lo glorificherò.16Lo sazierò di lunga vita e gli farò vedere la mia salvezza.
