For the director of music. A psalm of Asaph. A song to the tune of ‘Do Not Destroy.’
1God, we praise you. We praise you because you are near to us. People talk about the wonderful things you have done.2You say, ‘I choose the appointed time to judge people. And I judge them fairly.3When the earth and all its people tremble, I keep everything from falling to pieces.4To the proud I say, “Don’t boast anymore.” To sinners I say, “Don’t show off your power.5Don’t show it off against me. Don’t talk back to me.” ’6No one from east or west or north or south can judge themselves.7God is the one who judges. He says to one person, ‘You are guilty.’ To another he says, ‘You are not guilty.’8In the hand of the LORD is a cup. It is full of wine mixed with spices. It is the wine of his anger. He pours it out. All the evil people on earth drink it down to the very last drop.9I will speak about this for ever. I will sing praise to the God of Jacob.10God says, ‘I will destroy the power of all sinful people. But I will make godly people more powerful.’
For the director of music. To the tune of ‘Do Not Destroy’. A psalm of Asaph. A song.
1We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.2You say, ‘I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity.3When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.[1]4To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horns.[2]5Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.” ’6No-one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves.7It is God who judges: he brings one down, he exalts another.8In the hand of the Lord is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs.9As for me, I will declare this for ever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,10who says, ‘I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.’
1To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We[1] recount your wondrous deeds. (Ps 50:1; Ps 57:1; Ps 145:18)2“At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity. (Ps 17:2; Ps 102:13; Da 8:19; Hab 2:3)3When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. (1Sa 2:8; Isa 24:19)4I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn; (Ps 75:10; Zec 1:21)5do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’”6For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, (Ps 3:3)7but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. (1Sa 2:7; Ps 50:6; Da 2:21)8For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. (Job 21:20; Ps 11:6; Ps 73:10; Pr 23:30)9But I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.10All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up. (1Sa 2:1; Ps 75:4; Ps 89:17; Ps 112:9; Jer 48:25)
Psalm 75
King James Version
1To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.2When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:5Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.6For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.7But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them .9But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
