Psalm 13

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 LORD, how long must I wait? Will you forget me for ever? How long will you turn your face away from me? 

2 How long must I struggle with my thoughts? How long must my heart be sad day after day? How long will my enemies keep winning the battle over me? 

3 LORD my God, look at me and answer me. Give me new life, or I will die. 

4 Then my enemies will say, ‘We have beaten him.’ They will be filled with joy when I die. 

5 But I trust in your faithful love. My heart is filled with joy because you will save me. 

6 I will sing praise to the LORD. He has been so good to me.

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me for ever? How long will you hide your face from me? 

2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 

3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, 

4 and my enemy will say, ‘I have overcome him,’ and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 

5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 

6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

How Long, O Lord?

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? (Job 13:24; Ps 10:12; Ps 44:24; Ps 74:19; Ps 74:23; Ps 79:5; Ps 89:46; La 5:20; Re 6:10) 

2 How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? (Ps 77:6) 

3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, (1Sa 14:27; Ezr 9:8; Ps 5:1; Ps 19:8; Ps 119:153; Pr 29:13; Jer 51:39; Eph 1:18) 

4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. (De 32:27; Ps 10:6) 

5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. (Ps 9:14; Ps 11:1) 

6 I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? 

2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? 

3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; 

4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. 

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. 

6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

2 HERR, wie lange willst du mich so ganz vergessen? Wie lange verbirgst du dein Antlitz vor mir? (Ps 77:8; Hab 1:2) 

3 Wie lange soll ich sorgen in meiner Seele / und mich ängsten in meinem Herzen täglich? Wie lange soll sich mein Feind über mich erheben? 

4 Schaue doch und erhöre mich, HERR, mein Gott! Erleuchte meine Augen, dass ich nicht im Tode entschlafe, 

5 dass nicht mein Feind sich rühme, er sei meiner mächtig geworden, und meine Widersacher sich freuen, dass ich wanke. 

6 Ich traue aber darauf, dass du so gnädig bist; / mein Herz freut sich, dass du so gerne hilfst. Ich will dem HERRN singen, dass er so wohl an mir tut.
